Holy fuck, Movistar. When did they get good at time trials? |

Great ride by Movistar. Guillén will be pissed that the gap was so big.

He had a tooth infection. Apparently they only affect riders with great professionalism like Cobo and Andrew. Guess Klöden should be worried.

Really why is movistar such a suprise? They've got Valverde, Quitana, Lastras, Rojas, Castroviejo (Didn't you notice how he rode at the Olympic Games? A-M-A-Z-I-N-G) and Intxausti.
They all proved they can ride very hard.

I thought pro riders would get their teeth checked every other month or something. Especially any pro sportsman who has persistent tendinitis should have his teeth checked. :?
At least I can talk by experience, that can prevent you from practising your sport. |

Yeah, they have Valverde <sarcasm>
I know he is decent enough but he isn't a good time trialist and he has had some really bad TTs.

Team Time Trialing isn't about how good you are in in a individual time trial. It is about how good you can ride in a chain and how hard you can ride. The ones you see chasing at the break away in flat stages are also not always good time trialists but they ride very hard.

TT involve a huge technical aspect though, where thin margins can be gained.
Position on the bike, material, cadence, etc. all those can affect a TT result, which is not only about sheer power (whereas a mountain finish is mostly about what power riders can produce).
TTT are even more technical, as you need to have the right riders relaying when needed, use one line or two lines, etc. Well, PCM had pretty much the feeling about it, bar the fact that the 1/10 scale was giving too little relays to each rider. |

In a TTT your efforts are short. How good is Valverde at prologues?
Answer: Very

But that's mostly because of how aerodynamic they are or are not on a TT bike. Which doesn't factor on a road race.

Well I didn't actually see the rainbow bands all race... he is QuickStep's designated leader though so I'd have thought he finished up with his team-mates.
Helpful as ever, the Vuelta organisers have still yet to post the official standings online & Eurosport had to cut out before they managed to get the individual standings up on-screen...
Hell even Velonation have the times up before Lavuelta.com |
