i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo104.jpg

The Tour of Oman ends with a criterium. It looks hilly on the profile but it's actually flat.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo99.jpg

We have 2 men between today's 15 escapees. Lund and Kroon represent our colours.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo100.jpg

Astana gets support from some other teams so it doesn't look like the break will survive.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo101.jpg

The break was cuaght rather early so Tossato gave it a try but it was impossible to stay away from the pack.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo102.jpg

Haedo chose the wheel of Wagner, a good choice as the German is in the wheel of Ventoso who's Movistar train is leading.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo103.jpg

Ventoso finished the work of his teammate and takes the win in front of Guarnieri who takes the overal with one second on Ventoso. Haedo finally delivered as he takes the 5th spot.

The Tour of Oman is now organised for the third time and it looks like it's becoming more popular as the Tour of Qatar. That probably has to do with the route as the Mountain stage and the timetrial has attract some famous GT-riders like Wiggins, Menchov and Brajkovic. They should be the favourites. Sorensen will go for a top 10 for our team while Haedo will be our man for the sprints once again.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo116.jpg

The second stage in Oman is also flat. Haedo was second yesterday and hopes he can get another podium today.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo111.jpg

11 riders in today's break of the day. The Saxo rider is good old Luke Roberts.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo112.jpg

The chase at the front of the pack is lead by Movistar and Argos, the teams of the two best sprinters in Qatar, Ventoso and Kittel.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo113.jpg

Flecha tries to jump accross the break in the last 20 kms. He succeeds but everyone is brought back by the pack.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo114.jpg

Argos' sprint train for Kittel was clearly the strongest. Ventoso and Haedo are in the wheel of the German. The speed is very high and the pack is divided in multiple echelons.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo115.jpg

Kittel could only be followed by Ventoso. The Spaniard jump past the German in the last 500 metres and takes the win. They were so strong that they get 22" time gap on the others where Haedo takes the 8th place.

Ventoso and Kittel are just too strong for Haedo. He will go for top 5's in the other flat stages. Sorensen lost time today but so did almost all other overal contenders.

Third stage, third sprint...

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo119.jpg

Lund in today's break of the day. But it's not like they will fight for the win.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo120.jpg

Movistar does almost all the work today as they only recieve a little help from Argos.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo121.jpg

Atapuma and Henao try a mid-stage attack. Unsuccesfull, just as the early break. It would have been smarter for the Colombians to wait untill tomorrow.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo122.jpg

Ventoso's Movistar is clearly in front but nodody is following them. Everyone is in the wheel of Kittel were Haedo sits in a good position behind Eisel.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo123.jpg

Ventoso was stronger here, as Kittel's jump came way too late. Haedo finished 6th but not much behind 3rd place Eisel.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo137.jpg

Today's finish lays atop the Green Mountain. The only difficulty of the day is 7 km long but should make up for some larger time gaps. Sorensen hopes to place himself in the top 10.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo127.jpg

Some strange tactics early on by Sky as Wiggins and Henao, two of their best climbers try to get in the early break. They can't get away though.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo128.jpg

Rather late, a break finally gets free. Morkov represents Saxo Bank. Kessiakoff and Talabardon are two other known riders at the front.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo129.jpg

Argos and Movistar are again working at the front today. Their sprinters don't stand a chance here so that is rather strange.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo130.jpg

Entering the Green Mountain, the break is still more then 2' in front. The two continental riders attacked but are brought back rather easily.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo131.jpg

When the peloton hits the final climb, our leader Chris Anker Sorensen immediately attacks. No immediate reaction.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo132.jpg

Unsurprisingly, Kessiakof dropped al others on the first uphill sections. He is looking good for the stage win but has already lost some time in the flat stages so doesn't stand a chance for GC.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo133.jpg

Sorensen passes his teammate Morkov when we finally see a reaction in the peloton. Tiernan-Locke puts in a strong attack.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo134.jpg

Kessiakoff kept a steady pace and has a lot of time to celebrate a nice victory!
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo135.jpg

Tiernan-Locke passes Sorensen in the last kilometre to take 2nd. Sorensen finishes on the podium after a strong attack.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo136.jpg

Ventoso comes in 3' behind Kessiakoff. He received a lot of help from his teammates but loses the leader's jersey with 17" to Tiernan Locke.

The second decesive stage in Oman is a time trial. Right after the start comes a rather tough hill so the climbers shouldn't lose too much on the better timetrialists. Sorensen will try to defend his top 10 on GC.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo140.jpg

Paulinho had a very good day and rode a very strong timetrial. He crushed the opposition when he passed the finish line.
29'52
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo141.jpg

His best time didn't last long as Thomas, one of the top timetrialists in the peloton, lowerd his time by 2"
29'50
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo142.jpg

Slovenian champion Janez Brajkovic was another top favourite for the stage but couldn't do better as Paulinho.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo143.jpg

Race leader Tiernan-Locke isn't a great timetrialist but he limits his losses and defends his red jersey.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo154.jpg

The Tour of Oman ends with another flat stage. Haedo will go for it in a sprint but Ventoso and Kittel are probably just way too strong.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo148.jpg

Roberts is our guy in the break today. One guy who stands out at the front is British Champion Bradley Wiggins who was tipped as the pre-race favourite but couldn't quite live up to the expectations.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo149.jpg

As expected, it were again the two same teams chasing the break of the day. No wonder though as Ventoso and Kittel have proven to be way too fast for the others.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo150.jpg

Stuart O'Grady used the last 10 kms to make a remarkable move. He first jumped from the pack to the breakaway and then broke away from the early attackers. He looks so strong that it will be hard for the pack to catch him.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo151.jpg

But too bad for him. His attack is over with only 500 m to go as Kittel and Ventoso are passing him in their bust for the line. They both look very strong for the win here.
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/saxo152.jpg

But it's the German who takes the win for his Argos team with only a couple of centimetres advantage over Ventoso. Thomas takes 3rd while O'Grady could hold on for 4th. Haedo was once again nowhere to be seen.

Well, we have too be a bit disappointed with Haedo here. He should have atleast challenged for the top 3 on all the flat stages. Our GC guys lost time in the flat stages but bounced back with a 3rd and 2nd place respectively. Sorensen still finished 10th overal so we can't say this was a bad race.

The Vuelta a Andalucia or Ruta del Sol is a 5 day stage race held in the Andalucia region in Spain. The race starts with a short prolugue and ends with 4 stages which are after all not that tough but also not completely flat so the punchers with a good prologue should fight for the victory. There are some strong pro tour teams at the start so they should fight for the win. We hope Kroon or Nuyens can maybe get us a good placing in the overal or maybe even a stage win.
