I hope the race won't go as last year's WC. All th epuncheurs tried something, and in the end a big group (50-70 riders?) sprint for the win.... Okay. Hushovd is a great world champ, all credits for him. But to me, a WC should be a lot tougher, that a maximum of 10 riders can sprint for the win (let's say a Liege-Bastogne-Liege kind of race).
And I really don't mind seeing a WC in the alps, with the Madeleine, Galibier and finish on top of the Alpe d'Huez.. Would be great and something different. Then the next year can be pancake-flat again.
For this year. my prediction is 1. Matti Breschel, 2. Peter Sagan, 3. Tyler Farrar.
Breschel out with an injury

There were 25 riders. Last years route was fine for me, but it should be the lower limit in terms of hardness for a WC, imo. There was a pretty good mix of sprinters, puncheurs and even climbers in the last group.

Didn't you watch the Vuelta. He crashed in one of the earlier stages. |

So many riders have crashed this year, can't remember them all....
Yep, 2 broken fingers. Last news I've seen is that he has postponed surgery and wants to ride, knowing he can't go for the win. Too bad for him, horrible season.
Then a new prediction: 1. Sagan (I know for sure he's not injured), 2. Farrar, 3. Cavendish.

I have a feeling Sagan can't cope with the distance of the race. My favourites are Gilbert, EBH and Cav.
***
Gilbert, EBH, Cav
**
Hushovd, Thomas, Goss, Rojas, Greipel
*
Farrar, Boom, Cancellara, Freire, Bennati, Van Avermaet, Gerrans

Funny that Quinziato tweeted this on sunday: "Happy and proud to have been selected for the worlds! Being part of italian national team is a dream coming true!" |

Sagan showed this year that you can never count him out. I didn't expect him to win mountain stages and I also didn't expect him to survive the Vuelta at age of 21. But he won a stage with 2 tough mountains in Suisse and he did survive the vuelta and even won the last stage.
I would totally agree with your favourites if you changed Thomas by Sagan!

True, but this surviving of Vuelta could be his disatvantage,as he was really tired in the end (according to himself). And plus i think this WC is too long and easy for him (shorter but more difficult would be better). But i hope he will serve me a positive surprise

I am getting excited for the U23 Worlds now, I reckon SA have a really good chance of a top 10, and hopefully a medal.

The Netherlands announced their squad:
Robert Gesink
Bauke Mollema
Maarten Tjallingii
Lars Boom
Wout Poels
Johnny Hoogerland
Pim Ligthard
Niki Terpstra
Time Trial:
Stef Clement
Lieuwe Westra
Critical comments come from Skil Shimano, who criticize the lack of real sprinters (Tom Veelers e.g.) and don't understand the amount of climbers.

I don't think he's ever been selected before though. He's married to a French woman, and has been living here for years. I think he changed his nationality 3 or 4 years ago, could first compete in the Nationals 2 years ago, and can now be selected.
That's a pretty strong team France has for the Worlds. Fedrigo could have been a nice addition (instead of Ravard, who won't cope with both distance and such a strong field).
Still we lack a top sprinter, Feillu could make it to the podium at the very best. |

Well.. Maybe it ends in a bunch sprint, but it can still be a hard and good race, and i think it will be. There are several teams that wants to make it hard and attack before the finishline. I think it will be a good race, and i hope so. |

On such a flat course, as much as you try to make the race hard, a bunch sprint in 99% assured. The only chance to avoid it is that a breakaway somehow makes it to the finish if the chase isn't well organized, and it won't happen.
An interesting thing, however, may be the wind. Never been to Copenhaguen, but due to its location I assume it should be a windy place? A bit of crosswinds would be appreciated.

There are also riders who says that it will be a hard race with maybe 25-30 riders in first group. That is a hard race imo.
I dont think you can judge the route before we have seen the junior/U23 RR. |
