Stage 5
Another flat stage through the desert. Today, 153 kilometres await the riders with the finish in Al Kharaitiyat.
The stage ends in a mass sprint again. Due to a bad daily form of his last 2 lead outs, Marcel Kittel is already in the lead with a little under 2km to go. As waiting isn't a option, all he can do is go for it, and hope that it will be enough. But Andrea Guardini is in his wheel, out of the wind, and overtakes Kittel with 100m to go. Guardini takes his second win in a row, followed by our German sprinter and Kevin Lacombe (Spidertech). Tom Boonen finishes in 4th. With 1 stage to go, Guardini leads the GC, with Kittel in 2nd in the same time and Boonen at '3.

Stage 6
The last stage of this Tour of Qatar brings the riders back to Doha. And the battle for the GC-win will become a real thriller, with the best 3 sprinters within 3 seconds. This means, that the one who wins the last mass sprint, also wins the GC!
But the mass sprint ends in a anti-climax. The Katusha-train takes the lead of the peloton in the last kilometres, while the Astana-train with Andrea Guardini gets blocked a bit when they catch the BOTD. And the Petronas-train? Well, there is none.... All of the riders seem to be too exhausted, so Marcel Kittel decides to take the wheel of Guardini, what appears to be the wrong choice....
The Italian and German have to come from too far behind, while Tom Boonen takes the stage win, and thus the GC. Bernardo Riccio finishes in 2nd, Kevin Lacombe in 3rd, Guardini in 4th and Kittel in 6th, meaning Tom Boonen wins the Tour of Qatar.

Today's and overall winner
Word from the DS
So with a stage win and a few top 3's, we can be happy. But in the end, Marcel Kittel simply wasn't consistent enough to win the GC.

Our Team
The favourites
*** Thibaut Pinot (AG2R), Alexandre Geniez (Cofidis), Christophe Le Mével (Europcar).
** Wout Poels (Rabobank), Kevin Seeldraeyers (Sony Ericsson), Rafael Valls (Movistar).
* Matti Breschel, Dries Devenyns (MX3), Emanuele Sella (Colnago).
Our goals
As we use this race to prepare ourselve for the cobbled races, we don't have high expectations, nor goals. So a top 10 in the GC would be nice, and maybe a stage win....
Stage 1
The first stage to Pertuis is only 114 kilometres and classified as hilly. And immediately, the peloton miscalculates the chase of the BOTD. The 10 riders in the BOTD decide the stage win in a sprint, and Belgian Johan Coenen (Landbouwkrediet) takes the win (and the GC-lead). The 2nd place goes to Óscar Pujol (Movistar) and the 3rd to Dries Devenyns (MX3). Matti Breschel wins the sprint of the peloton for the 11th place at '38.

Today's winner
Stage 2
The 2nd stage to Rousset is flat, although a small hill before the finish can cause some difficulties.
And Colnago's Marco Frapporti surprises the peloton by launching his sprint very early (2.5km before the finish) and none of the others are capable of overtaking him, not even the Acqua et Sapone duo Mirco Lorenzetto and Alessandro Petacchi, who finish in 2nd and 3rd. Matti Breschel has a fairly weak day and finishes in 9th. And thanks to PCM-logic, GC-contenders Valls and Pinot outsprint all the sprinters.....

I know it's been said a lot before, but I have to say it again:
It's just amazing and unbelievable that you can keep this up so long. It's really legendary. 181 pages, what the hell!
Keeping a story alive for such a long time without reducing the quality is something not many people have. (And the quality of the reports is also worth mentioning, it's clear to see you put some time in it!). I applaud you once again!
Hope this story continues for a long time to come, because I'm enjoying every minute of it

@ sutty: Kittel will have a long break. His next race is the Rund um den Finanzplatz Frankfurt in early May.
@ Ian Butler: thanks a lot.... Like siad before, I want to make it 200+ pages. Then we'll see... And thanks a lot about what you said about the quality.
@ the_hoyle: thanks, although I hoped to win the GC...
