Terrible work from OPQS.
Yeah it wasn't great but to be fair with that wind pretty much any team would have struggled to set something up. That's why it proved to be so messy.

J.J Lobato filling in nicely for J.J Rojas for Movistar, 4th place . The wind sure burnt out everyone's sprint trains, so no surprise a strong rider like Taylor Phinney managed to Top 3. Perhaps Cancellara could have been up there if he wasn't trying to setup Nizzolo for Trek.

Edit: And a win for Kittel
Respect to Kittel, winning it cleanly on what looks like a giant jelly fish???

Because no one really cares about the SA nats? It isn't exactly a brilliant cycling nation so there is very little in the way of glory to be had. Not only that but this time of year is important for building form and getting up to race speed so going to races like Dubai is way more important.

Just thought Caleb Ewan had come 10th.
And ofc i see why Reinhardt isn't there, but why not Jaques? He's still at MTN, no?

From the picture Bouhanni had about a wheel of advance on Degenkolb. Not sure who was upfront at the beginning of the sprint though.
Coquard only 5th but lost the wheel of Engoulvent, then was about 15th at the last curve with 600 m to go. |

I care?
But it's a long flight for two races, so if you are in Europe before and after then it's hard to justify the flight.
Although Impey entering actually hurts South Africa, as Nat Champs give points on the continental rankings, which don't count if they go to a world Tour rider, and South Africa are only 1 point ahead of Burkina Faso for the final World Champs qualification spot.
EDIT: Jaques JvR is riding the road race, so I guess he just decided he couldn't win?

Yeah, it's stupid. Mainly because South Africa's domestic races are never UCI categorised, so their local riders pick up no points.
Algeria and Morocco on the other hand are all UCI categorised, so it will be tough to beat them.

(2.1 - UCI Oceania Tour) Herald Sun Tour - Stage 2: Ballarat to Bendigo (165km)
Weren't no catching the breakaway today for the peloton, with Cameron Wurf getting the consolation prize of being Most Aggressive Rider for the stage.

Haas had absolutely no team today. All of them seemingly got dropped over the climbs.
Great attack from Clarke.
Young Jack Haig has had a great start to the year. Looks good for 2 young classifications jerseys, after picking up one at the TDU. |

Absolutely, he has really impressed me. One of the more promising riders in the NRS teams at the moment.

He is looking at riding the MTB at the Commonwealth Games and once that is done he will be full-time road, was close to signing for Drapac for this year but if he keeps progressing the way he is I see him doing something like what Von Hoff did or even what Earle and Hass have done and sign for a WT team. He sure is a big talent

Dubai run in coming up. Could be interesting with a 1.5km stint at 8% (max 11%) to come before a decent to the finish. |

Sagan getting ready to jump on the last little kick? Costa, Phinney and Pozzato all there at the front of the stretched pack too. |
