Nice to see De Gendt win something again, he seemed to stop progressing after last year's Giro, so let's hope he can show more this season.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Honestly, I hope he doesn't turn into a big GC contender. For me he's just a rider pure brilliance in what he does: major solo wins and attacking. He should continue to do so, I never see him finishing top 10 in the Tour. For a simple reason that he cannot cope with a nervous peloton. |

His triumph in that mountain stage in the Giro was from a long breakaway. It was a brilliant victory, but I'm afraid people have mistaken him for a huge climber, which I believe he isn't given his results before and after that stage.
I agree with Ian, he should keep with his courageous attacking style in spite of pursuing a GC wannabe style of progression, decision which has ruined many careers.

Great to see Christian Meier win both the sprint and the TDF 100 jerseys! |

I do agree with you guys though, I like him better as an outsider/attacker as I don't think he'll ever be able to become world-class without doing dope like most others. |

Guessing he had to put some massive turns in on the early circuits up the hill and probably sacrificed his GC spot. Hesjedal was all Martin had left for the last 4-5 laps. |

De Gendt has shown his potential, both as climber and time trialist, and seems to have a good recovery as well. The only he hadn't shown yet is consistency. I'm hoping he will keep on attacking, and building a GC along the way. It would be nice to finaly have a GC rider who dares to attack earlier.
That being said, his climbing isn't top class, and he doesn't like to ride in a peleton as Ian pointed out. I can see him do a Pereiro or a Voeckler in the tour though, but with the Sky machine it will be nearly impossible. Yet if De Gendt goes and some big names dare to follow, it will be a very interesting Tour.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

I don't think Purito lacked punch in yesterday stage because he actually opened some gap when attacked. The "problem" was that they climbed Montjuic by the road they use to descent and it's much less steep. Also, with this kind of short and explosive climbs, 3 km to the finish is quite long for riders like Rodriguez who's more like a climbing sprinter.
I really don't understand Katusha race plan. They were unable to control the race with guys like Moreno, Losada, Caruso, Spilak and Menchov in the start list.

Aaaah, that explains it.
That completely changes the stage's nature then.

Implying he isn't doing dope as well. Most top-riders still do and I wouldn't trust anyone from the Vacansoleil-squad. |
