NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/3-006-NEW%20ZEALAND%20CHAMPIONSHIP/NEW%20ZEALAND_zps8vi42hj3.gif

Christchurch - 181.6km

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/3-006-NEW%20ZEALAND%20CHAMPIONSHIP/3-006_zpsxctlu2dj.jpg

THE RACE

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/000-KM%20SIGNS/TO%20GO-100KM_zps1y7arcf2.jpg

Bauer/Team Novo Nordisk decided to go it on his own right from the word go and has steadily built up an advantage of over eight minutes

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/3-006-NEW%20ZEALAND%20CHAMPIONSHIP/3-006-PIC%20001_zpslslz242b.jpg

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/000-KM%20SIGNS/TO%20GO-80KM_zpsegkyqg4e.jpg

After letting him enjoy himself in front of the TV cameras the riders behind have decided to up the pace and are being led along by Henderson/Lotto Belisol

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/3-006-NEW%20ZEALAND%20CHAMPIONSHIP/3-006-PIC%20002_zpsmmx3y6th.jpg

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/000-KM%20SIGNS/TO%20GO-60KM_zps9zzbuacq.jpg

With sixty kilometres to go the lead is 8m 48s so Bauer has eased off the pedalling to try and keep some energy for when he gets nearer the finish

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/3-006-NEW%20ZEALAND%20CHAMPIONSHIP/3-006-PIC%20003_zpsjn0obbb5.jpg

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/000-KM%20SIGNS/TO%20GO-40KM_zpsgh3wdv9w.jpg

Henderson is still leading the peleton with not much co-operation from the other riders

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/3-006-NEW%20ZEALAND%20CHAMPIONSHIP/3-006-PIC%20004_zpsq4sl6lf1.jpg

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/000-KM%20SIGNS/TO%20GO-20KM_zpskurbz4v9.jpg

The lead has come down dramatically as tiredness begins to play its part

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/3-006-NEW%20ZEALAND%20CHAMPIONSHIP/3-006-PIC%20005_zps3hppaglf.jpg

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/000-KM%20SIGNS/TO%20GO-10KM_zps0byiryz3.jpg

The pack are on the last climb of the day and seem resigned to fighting it out for second place

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/3-006-NEW%20ZEALAND%20CHAMPIONSHIP/3-006-PIC%20006_zps9bw6yixq.jpg

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/000-KM%20SIGNS/TO%20GO-5KM_zpsg6pvcjyx.jpg

He approaches the final five kilometres of the race with just under five minutes advantage, surely nothing but a mechanical problem can stop him now

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/3-006-NEW%20ZEALAND%20CHAMPIONSHIP/3-006-PIC%20007_zps7xjydlex.jpg

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/000-KM%20SIGNS/TO%20GO-1KM_zpsxghcf53u.jpg

Under the red kite he goes

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/3-006-NEW%20ZEALAND%20CHAMPIONSHIP/3-006-PIC%20008_zpsmwdz0hrz.jpg

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/000-KM%20SIGNS/FINISH_zpsg1omekib.gif

And he's done it, he becomes the double National Champion of New Zealand

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/3-006-NEW%20ZEALAND%20CHAMPIONSHIP/3-006-PIC%20009_zpsnqefjphb.jpg

And four minutes later Northey/Node4 Giordana leads home the peleton

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/3-006-NEW%20ZEALAND%20CHAMPIONSHIP/3-006-PIC%20010_zps8bhwadix.jpg

A brilliant show of strength from Jack today, he rode a perfect race from start to finish and thoroughly deserves to be a double National Champion.
He will be proud to wear the black jersey for the next twelve months

That was an absolutely Great day out for the guys today, a Brilliant lead-out train got Adam to the line for the victory, five riders in the top ten on the stage and Adam now in second place on the GC by a solitary second.
We also have the Mountains jersey on Gary's back and Adam is in the Best Young rider jersey too

THE STAGE

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/000-KM%20SIGNS/TO%20GO-100KM_zps1y7arcf2.jpg

With a lead of 4m 18s the following seven riders have built themselves a good advantage, they are Didier/Radioshack Leopard, Van Der Sande/Lotto Belisol, Stannard/Sky Procycling, Ponzi/Astana Pro Team, Pinotti/BMC Racing, Clarke/Giant Shimano and Pires/Team Saxo Tinkoff

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/3-008-5-SANTOS%20TOUR%20DOWN%20UNDER-STAGE%205/3-008-5-PIC%20001_zpsupeo5apf.jpg

SPRINT - Didier/Radioshack Leopard

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/000-KM%20SIGNS/TO%20GO-80KM_zpsegkyqg4e.jpg

Orica GreenEdge have put a couple of riders on the front of the peleton to try and stop the gap from getting dangerous

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/000-KM%20SIGNS/TO%20GO-60KM_zps9zzbuacq.jpg

The lead has been reduced to under two minutes

MOUNTAIN – Favilli/Lampre Merida

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/000-KM%20SIGNS/TO%20GO-20KM_zpskurbz4v9.jpg

After the first ascent of Willunga Hill we have ended up with Millar/Garmin Sharp, Elissonde/FDJ BigMat and Favilli/Lampre Merida at the front

i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/epic2000/000-KM%20SIGNS/TO%20GO-1KM_zpsxghcf53u.jpg

Sutton/Team Novo Nordisk and Moser/Cannondale have attacked out of the peleton as the finish line gets ever closer

But Moser has a bit too much power for the Welshman and takes the win at the top
