Currently sitting in the airport waiting to board my flight. On my way to Nelspruit for SA Road champs. I'm super excited and I'm in tip-top shape, so I'll be going for the win in both the TT and road race. That being said, to get a podium in either requires and extraordinary effort and suffering. Time trial is on Thursday and road race is Saturday. I'll be sure to let you guys know how I do, if you don't see it on Procyclingstats
So it's my TT on Thursday and I'm one of the early starters on the day. You'll be able to get the live timing results from the race from <this> link.
- Just use the filter and select Junior Men and press Go. Then you'll have the names of all my competitors.
Biggest names in my age group are Jarrod Hattingh, Enno Swanepoel and Waylin Young. Like I said, I'll be starting before them, but I think you'll be able to get the live results while we're riding.

I can say i'm pretty happy with 10,005 vertical gained and 413.2 k's over 117.5 laps
I was doing this one with another rider but the poor guy ran out of steam around 7500 vertical so I did what a good domestique and Hells 500 rider would do and backed the pace off and rode an easy tempo to get him to his Everest @8848, he wanted 10,000 like me but to his credit when he fell apart he just put his head down and kept slowing getting himself up the climb. I just had one of those days and as the k's ramped up I kept getting stronger with the last 1200 being surprisingly easy and enjoyable to crack the 10,000.
Now that ive bagged this I really don't know what to do next

How about the shortest ever Everest, though personally I can't think of anything worse than steep repeats to 9000m
Well this one is the current shortest Everest https://www.strava.com/activities/1550.../155026201
96 k's on a 20% climb
As much as I enjoy throwing myself into the deep end with cycling, I honestly think that my knees would literally explode attempting to take that on.

Planned my first ride of the year outside, away from the hometrainer, for today so I took care of the bike the night before. I also put it in a new place, right at the door. Sweet spot. So next day, I had put on my clothes, ate some breakfast and was ready to get in some february freezing action before getting out to work, just to find out that my back wheel has flat tired over night.
Uh, pretty confused by this. I thought it was the valve, that maybe it has been broken. But actually turned out that the tube had a small puncture. By standing still. Overnight.
I can only explain this strange nightly occurence with too much pressure in the tube?
Congratulations strydz. You're a beast. Us Europeans better watch out when you hit Europe, you might steal all our mountains.

My god that looks horrific! I tend to feel the steep stuff in my shoulders and neck (probably down to god awful technique) - suspect I wouldn't be able to raise my head after 10km at 20%...
If I were to Everest anything (in another life btw) I'd be firmly in the 5% camp. Just did some hill repeats on that gradient - the body is much more relaxed and you can pick your heart rate rather than gravity dictating it for you. In short it's so much more civilised!

Wtf, now the hometrainer basically auto-destroyed himself. I did a normal session, pedals got a bit weak and made noise after around 17 km. Didn't mind it since I planned to stop at 20 anyway. Two kms later, thing made a knack and the "level"/gears do not work anymore. Thing is pretty warm, guess I'll take a look at it later that day. Can't be bothered to fix another thing after the strange overnight flat tire, also since I have to wait for the response of the support team anyway first, sigh.
Jesus Christ, I swear I'm haunted today.

Someone's telling you not to ride a bike anymore today
Guy aims to do the most kilometers in a year, and one can follow him on strava. Inhuman!
In the intro of the blog, they have also mentioned Tommy Godwin.
The current record was set by an Englishman called Tommy Godwin in 1939. He cycled through rain and shine to clock 75,065 miles (120,000km) in 365 days, before continuing to break the 100,000 mile record (in 500 days). Then, after a few weeks learning how to walk again, he enlisted in the RAF and went to war against the Nazis.
How awesome was this guy?! I kinda wish Godwin could keep it though, looking back at the time since it exists, it was an outstanding achievement. Then again, those records exist to be broken and replaced new records. It'll be nice to follow Abrahams on his attempt either way.

I have heard the Tommy Godwin story before, he really was marvel and the conditions he rode through make his records even more amazing. His bike weighed 14 kilos and was fairly basic but one solid steed, he was a vegitarian which would have been odd for the time, he rode through wartime blackouts. I agree it would be great if he held onto the record but when it gets broken it will just show what a true hardman he must have been.

With the weather slowly being better, I probably will take the bike from the trainer onto the road soon.
Decided to guy the Garmin Edge 810 bundle as it was pretty cheap on amazon for 333€. Hopefully won`t regret spending that much money on it but eventually helps me to motivate myself a bit to ride more than last year even though this had other reasons as well that stopped me from riding weekly.
I've finally managed to find some motivation (in this case testing Strava on my new phone) for the first half decent ride of the year. Unfortunately, I was planning to do 45km+ but I was stopped by an awful wind and I've just done about 37km.
Nonetheless I'm quite happy about the discrepancy between the cyclecomputer and the Strava app, that today was only 3%, compared to the 12% that I was used to register with my old phone
Even more happy about the fact that the Strava uploading is now 100% fixed and I managed to upload 5 other Runtastic activities of some months ago.

810 should be good fun to play with and glad to hear the alternate phone app is working out too elsewhere.
I had a good experience with using Endomondo for months on my phone and importing to Strava before getting a Garmin 500.
Btw if you don't need detailed mapping 500's are down to nigh on £100 on Amazon now - most fun upgrade I ever bought when it was £150 let alone £100. I've even nailed route planning now with turn by turn directions - love the numbers on my little silver friend
Relatively speaking to what it was not that long ago and for the value I got/am getting out of it but yes I know where you're coming from - I'm the guy who rides best budget everything
