Conta's attacks looked worryingly feeble - as soon as he was off, accompanied by Liggett's claims that these huge accelerations would decimate the yellow jersey group, Porte closed the gap with levels of ease that are only attained by stick insects climbing mountains

Your mistaken.
They did wait for them so not sure where you get this from.
The gesture he made towards Quintana?

Your entire deal seems to be disagreeing with everyone.
It's from the gesture Conta made to Quinta. |

Am i the only one thinking that Quintana is a future GC-winner? I have never seen somebody climbing like it is a walk in the park... It's literally unbelievable. |

I'm sure many people on here think he can win a GT in future, even as soon as next year. |

I wouldn't say Porte closed the gap with ease. Sure it took a lot of power for him, as you could see he cracked. He did got back but thats mostly because of the "flat" part.
Words to live by
"What would Lance do?"

If Quintana goes to Giro next year, he has a very good chance already. Nibali and Froome are the only climbers that can challenge him and both will be at the Tour. Rest shouldn't matter.
The only real threat will be Porte I guess, could be a great fight between them.

Is his participation rumoured? Because I would've imagined Movistar would want him at the Tour. |

True but what about the long TT's. Porte has him beaten there easily so it sure would be a great fight. I think Porte is a bit better though, we'll see . |

No idea yet, but he was scheduled to race Giro this year until they changed their minds.
Movistar will likely want him at the Tour, but winning a Giro is a real scoop too, so I imagine they could take a punt at it.
Could be well Valverde leading Giro/ Vuelta and Quintana solely focused on Tour, he and Tour GC don't go well together.
Too early to say though, Unzue will probably changes him mind about this dilema every week anyway.

You forget Rodriguez and Contador
Because you can be 100% sure that next year Contador and Rodriguez will go for either Giro and Vuelta or just one of them. |

The Giro is in Italy, Valverde and Italy don't really get along that well

He made a thumbs up gesture just as he rejoined the group and rolled past Valve and Quintana.. Obvious gesture, but could have several meanings of course. |

For sure.
However Contador isn't going be much better than this. While Quintana will very likely improve another level by next year, so I'd actually rate Quintana above Contador if they came head to head in a GT next year.
As well against Rodriguez, he always has a bad day somewhere, worse TT than Quintana imo, plus his pathetic 1km attacks aren't enough to ever win a GT.

Some nice attacks from Contador today, he's getting better. Tour is gone but he can do some nice things here, I think! |

I hope Nibali only takes Giro and Vuelta. This goes for all other riders than SKY.
Let them have their own pointless Tour that no one cares about. Don't bother challenging the dope train. |

While for cycling fans, it'd make some sense. From a sponsor point of view - it makes none.
