Why do people continue to call Sagan a wheelsucker?
He always takes his responsibility and gave 110% today, respect for him.
This
He was clearly on the limit when following Fab on the Kwaremont, but still took turns straight away.

I must admit that I wasn`T able to follow last season`s classics that much. So I have no idea if Sagan wheelsucked there a lot.
This season (MSR, Cobbled Classics) he always is doing most work imo. So surely he is no longer a wheelsucker.
Also today. Cancellara and Sagan shared the work until the climbs, where Cance was clearly stronger.
Later with Roelandts they again shared the lead.
I am still not the biggest fan of him. But I must admit that he is really riding in a great way. So I wouldn`t mind seeing him winning in the end as it would be fully deserved. |

MSR: In the second group over the Poggio. Didn't do any work but he had Nibali in front.
RVV: Came as 4th over the Paterberg alone, came close to the lead trio but couldn't make it and fell back.
AGR: A sprint upto the Cauberg, no wheelsucking either.
Never really understood where the wheelsucking thing came from. The first Tour stage maybe...

Degenkolb and EBH failed completely
Seriously?
I mean, in a straight sprint after 160k, 6th from his group is poor for Degenkolb.
But considering the fact his classics season was more than awful so far, and he stated that in any race, he was completely spent after 160-180 kilometres, simply being in this group after 6 hours has to be considered a success.
One can only imagine his potential in these weeks if he was in good form.

What do you mean by "(...) best results in classics", superrider2010? Hit a nerc, did we?
I don't agree with them saying he's a wheelsucker (he wasn't today, anyway), everybody has to play to their strenghts.
Cancellara can't sprint so he pulls away before the line, Sagan can sprint so he tries to hang on. Sagan is a bit of a poor example seeing as how he can do most anything.

Completely agree with kumazan and baseballlover. There's a fine line between "colourful" and "douchebag". Sagan just crossed that line...
Edit: And the guy is 23 - not 12!
He has to realise that he is a role model to a lot of young people and this signals that he (at 23!) thinks that there is nothing wrong with groping random beautiful women in your vicinity.
And I think "excuse" is a bit strongly put for this
Was not my intention to disrespect women today on the podium. Just a joke, sorry if someone was disturbed about it.
Perhaps admitting that he was wrong and that it's obviously not ok to touch a womans rear parts without her consent. Especially not in a situation like this.
Would have loved if she had turned and slapped him

I don't agree with his behaviour. Sagan can at times be a little bit immature and he might pull a few more "stunts" than other cyclists, but I don't think he ment it in a disrespectful manner.
By the way, did the same Aubrey say something about how this was a result of cyclings attitude towards women? That was atleast what a norwegian newspaper said. If that was what she ment, I think it's a bit of an overreaction. As far as my knowledge goes, the use of podium girls is all there is, are there any more instances where women are disrespected and discriminated against in cycling that I'm not aware of?

I don't think so, Actually I'd say that the UCI giving equal prize money to women and men puts them ahead of many other sports on this area.
Do the women get podium men? If not that could be the way to go

People tend to make a mountain out of a molehill.
Sagan was just joking around, the problem here is not that Sagan did it, it's that people overreact.

No.
The problem is you're trying to make Sagan into a victim in this situation. What he did was wrong. Guess what, harassment isn't allowed just because you're "joking". Accept it and move on.

Exactly. There's a ridiculously anachronistic thing in men's road racing - let's reproduce it in women's as well!

Would you consider it ok if someone did the same to some random chick on the street?
I hope not...
He could have "made his point" perfectly clear without actually touching. Then he would just have been fooling around (some might say in bad taste), but touching another persons ass without any sort of encouragement from that person is never fine. Then it only gets worse if you're a rolemodel to a lot of youngsters.
Sagan is old enough to know better, and should be man enough to give a proper apology stating that he overstepped a line...
