Is this for real? Porte gets 2 minutes penalty for getting a wheel from Clarke?
Seriously?
Seriously? |

Giro organisation has always been very strict with the rules. Disqualifications because of non-straight lines, time penalties when climbers are getting pushed by fans and riders taken out of the race when they hold on to cars.

Well, Giro would like Aru to win the Giro and they wouldn't mind Contador winning the Giro.
Porte is not an option for them, I think.
Quite harsh, this rule |

Maybe they're mixing up their Australians.

World's costliest wheel change in a race?...
Obviously a lot people are going to disagree with that decision, but oh man is SBS' coverage going to be "fun" for Stage 11.

I know rules are rules, but is it possible the rest of the peleton will react and somehow give these 2 minutes back? Just an idea, because this was beyond harsh. |

Giro has no problem giving penalties to the biggest Italian riders. They don't do favouritism.
Bettini once was DQ'd after a win when he put Cooke in the barriers. He was the maglia rosa at the time.
Di Luca also was given a time penalty once for getting pushed by a fan on a climb when he was in the middle of the fight for the overal.

How do you think this should happen? Give Porte a stage win and everybody just come 2 minutes later into finish... yeah, that's no option.

Well that's why asked... . I was rather thinking of some kind of objections. |

Maybe Contador pulls rank. Giro organization is in love with him. But I doubt he'll do that. Best option is for SKY to file official complaint and see what that gets them.

So the mostly perfect Team Sky missed out on a D.S. error, since why would Richie needs to take Simon Clarkes wheel if the Sky car had seen him.
Then of course , why wasn't Richie calling in the problem. They got radios on this race, right.
Can' t wait to listen to all players in this drama have had the opportunity to explain themselves. Press conference this evening perhaps.

I guess we can count this as Porte's "bad day" then. Losing 47" on the road and burning some crucial energy and then losing 2minutes off the road. Sky to go full retard coming very soon to a mountain near you!
Rules like this are an archaic throwback to the beginings of bike racing, and i mean the late 1800's and early 1900's. Cycling has evolved so much since those early days when it was much more an individual suffer-fest style sport.
I would bet a lot of money there would have been no penalty if Clarke had given him a wheel 5kms into the race, or 15 or 25 or 35. I'd also bet there'd have been no time penalty if Aru had taken a wheel from, say, Paolini.
It's very had to not sense some bias here after all the furor around Porte's motorhome and his lack of interaction with press, as well as have a big and popular Italian riding for a team with strong connections to the Italian Cycling Federation who could well lose 2minutes in the TT barely ahead in the GC.

They are so obsessed with details that they are riding a camper around Italy for 3 weeks so he doesn't have to sleep in the hotel.
Might not be a bad idea to learn the rules first.
