Amazing stage and report! Thanks a lot, SN.
That was an epic battle for pink. When I saw the gap Madrazo got at first, I was sure he was going to win it, but that was quite a ride from Phinney from the point he lost contact with Madrazo. Congratulations to both
Also great to see Spilak being back at his best. Third was the best he could realistically get from this race and it was also a sponsor goal, making me very happy
Also a brilliant stage by Augustyn, positioning Spilak well for that final battle against Nibali. |

Well, between this year and last year the Giro really knows how to put on a close race! 2 of the closest GT results in Man Game history! The post-Cunego era makes this race much less predictable and much more exciting because of it.
Thanks for the reports SN!

That was an awesome end! Really exciting. Phinney deserves the overal.
Also nice that Spilak never got in any trouble for his 3rd place

Epic reports for an epic race! This battle with 13seconds deciding the overall was just thriller. Deserved for Phinney, leading the race for so long and taking this fight on that brutal climb.
Also congrats to both our mates Smowz and SotD for some good results in the end.

To be honest, I'm a bit relieved with this result, because if there's one thing I don't want to be the decider of a GT win, it's a breakaway blocking the road uphill.
Man, those mountain stages were really intense!
I feared they would follow the earlier ones in stupidity and boredom.
Thanks for these great, thrilling reports, now onto the last stage! *fingers crossed*

Well, that was as close to a perfect ending as it gets!
I didn't think Madrazo would be able to do that kind of damage, but the Zoncolan once again showed just how brutal it is. Phinney really showed that the title is deserved with that fight. Congrats, dave!
Ricco for me was the biggest letdown. Sella obviously a bit further down than expected, but he still did well, given how many times he tried. Ricco did barely anything and still couldn't hang with the likes of Spilak, Nibali and Phinney. Not looking good for Bacardi after this.

Dammit. Another goal failed, this time only for a few seconds...
Good news is that Nechita will finish the race and as the lantern rouge as well

Oh, by the way SN, Pinot and Mai are certainly not a French duo

You don't say .
Navarro tried more then Ricco, and i have no idea why. I knew Ricco would never win so much TT km's, but he's been so anonymous for most of the Giro. I did expect something more from Ricco especially considering his high supporting stats.
Ricco still has the Vuelta left, so he can try there again, but after Burghardt doing nothing in the cobbles, and Ricco with a relatively low scoring Giro, it's looking quite grim.
Guess it's down to Intxausti now, who still has most of his racedays left.

Great ending to a great race for a neutral but not so much for us. 4 GTs in and we have yet to win a stage and 15th and 17th on GC probably won't be enough to stop us from relegating. Gonna need a big change in luck the rest of the season.
Thanks for the reports SN, they've been great. |

Congrats to Phinney, and Dave.
It was a good effort, but Madrazo needed to get a gap on more than 1 mountain stage to win. I sspect that I will struggle to avoid relegation now, unless Tenorio can pull out some magic in the Vuelta.

Firstly, big thanks SN for reports, I enjoyed them a lot!
And secondely, too bad Henao had lost quite a lot of time on flat stages, especially that 1.30 gap in stage 2 hurts a lot now, it is the difference between 9th and 12th place in the end. But anyway, 12th, 23rd and 31st places overall are quite solid results and when I add to this account the KOM jersey which König retained, plus a great Henao's stage win and a couple of good places of him, Forero and König, I have to be happy with this Giro.
Congrats to Dave as well, big win for Wikipedia surely.

I'm really happy for Dave that Phinney managed to hold on the lead after such a intense stage! Madrazo is my favourite for the Tour now, though this race should perhaps end up being an even greater specatacle than this, if Schleck/Madrazo/Cunego/plutkin etc. all are participating!
The reports has been awesome too, something that can't be said enough

Great stuff from Fothen here. Really surprised to see him ahead of Sella and Ricco. Nice to get a few stagepoints from the race, and also a decent position in the pointsclassification.
A race above par in the end. Now to hope no disasters happen on the final stage, for any riders.

Intxausti not riding the Vuelta or are you pairing the two? :-O

Amazing stage for Phinney!I thought the maglia rosa was gone when the gap opened that quickly. What a fight back though to peg Madrazo around a minute and drop the others along the way, ensuring a time bonus for himself.
I didn't really see Phinney being able to beat Madrazo, but riding in Pink since the first time trial has surely made the difference. Also a fantastic performance from the team to defend Phinney while still managing to carry the lead in the team classification.

Gavia stage: How wrong I was, what a great stage and report
Stage 18/mountain downhill and long flat part and finish: Good to see Ciolek keeping up with Swift and Bennati
Stage 19: a podium for Ciolek in that sprint is very good even though the sprint was a bit chaotic
Stage 20: Great stage, too bad that Madrazo haven't tried it earlier but it seems Phinney could have still got him as at the end Phinney managed to reduce a bit of the gap. So here is a deserved winner of the Giro 2013 and how close it was in the end.
Looking forward to the Vuelta.

Nope, to many hills in the Vuelta for Intxausti. Didn't want to risk it while planning.
