This was boring to you?
Contabore attacking on the final climb leaving everyone and so winning this giro in the most boring fashion. Yeah...
Nibali.. nope, loved his riding today.
You are like the anti-cycling fan. Loving Nibali who barely ever attacks and usually just sits in the wheels. He has attacked 1 descent in the whole giro, had 25 seconds, and was easily caught again.
Then there's Contador, attacking nearly every mountain stage, providing spectacle for everyone. But you hate him?

I couldn't see the end of the stage, so I'm only commenting on reports.
The comments I can read here are quite typical from races when a rider so much above his opponents. That makes the contention for the overall lead very predictable. Better forget about the leader and focus on the fight for second place. After all, in a couple of weeks it may become a fight for the Giro 2011 win.
I don't have a problem with Contador's riding. I have the same problems with him that Crommy's or kumazan's (rather our Spanish friend, btw, as I agree with him on the chain-gate).
You can't blame it on Contador for being stronger (well you can blame him for using stuff that makes him stronger, but it's not my point, for once). What more should he do ? Ride with 10 extra kg ?
He's stronger, deal with it. He still tries to attack instead of doing an Indurain and merely follow his closest rivals all the way through. THAT would be boring. |

It's not that people don't like the strongest guy attacking, it's just that when he DOES attack, we barely ever get to see #3 or #4 group/rider on the road. Yet when Nibali attacked, we were still seeing the Cuntador group, plus the Anton group, plus still seeing the breakaway riders. That is exciting. Just watching Cuntador riding up a hill with a growing gap isn't, in any way, exciting. Just like watching time trials bores the living crap outta me. Sure, not Cuntadors fault that the TV guys only focus on him, but if I have to blame someone, I prefer to blame a Spanish man.

I think you're being unfair with Nibali. If it wasn't for the shameful help of Movistar (Abarca is being shameful since always, so not really surprising, but still lame), Nibbles would have been the one not only bringing a lot of extra excitment to an already exciting stage, but he could also have put Contador under pressure, for the first time in this Giro. Granted, he very likely would have been caught by Contador anyway, but at least he tried something different. Kudos to him, really. |

Big props to Gadret, knowing that he has problems with his knees.
BTW, Guido is so right about Nibali. Because I remember Nibali as a very young rider, who attacked on every climb (same as Hoogerland) and these attacks came to nothing. Last years Vuelta showed me how much he has progressed as tactician. So I wasn't a big fan of todays attack.

Solid stage for Kreuziger. I thought he will finish with much worse time than he finished today.. But it will be hard to defend a top 10 result..
Great stage today, great efforts by all riders who finished!

Looks like everyone sees Contador like "THE bad guy"
As if he was the only one to be doped ...
As if it was the only rider to be dominating races ...
I mean, why don't you blame Cancellara for being the best TTer, Gilbert the best puncher, and so on ...
OK, we can assume Contador was doped, maybe is, but that's just so annoying to write comments like "Thanks Contabore, for making the race boring!"
If you're so narrow-minded concerning Contador, then stop watching cycling, or just focus on Scarponi, Nibali, ... (who, btw aren't the cleanest bunch of angels ...)
@Crommy : What's your romantic view of how a champion should ride ? some nostalgia from the Poulidor-Anquetil era

They aren't d-bags to me. I mean, Mr. Clembuterol attacked the yellow jersey when he had mechanical problems a year ago...

Two cases stick out for me:
Stage 20, 1964 Tour - Poulidor vs. Anquetil up the Puy de Dome
Stage 11, 1951 Tour - Koblet holds off peloton

And I very loosely quote Mr. Cancellara after this years Ronde Van Vlaanderen.
"The others didn't deserve to win, I am the only true champion of this race".
If that isn't a douche-bag, I don't even think Hulk Hogan at his worst would qualify.

Why do we hate Contador?
He has tested positive for an illegal substance. We don't care why he had it in his body, it shouldn't be there. He also wins the Giro like Basso did in 2006. And tell my, why did Basso won the Giro in 2006 9 minutes?
Right answer:
Why do we "love" Nibali?
He haven't tested positive as far as I know. It loooks like he suffers when he climbs. He takes his own pace, which is the best way of climbing when you're tired.
