People haven't given enough opportunity for others to spam, especially about how annoying there spam is. If somebody just asked what everyone's favourite of MARS' jerseys is then this would be over in seconds.

Here's a discussion topic =
What happened to this site I mean when I was first here there would be 11 pages of new stuff every time I'd wake up, but now i'm lucky if there's 30 new posts
am I wrong or am I right? why has this site become like this? |

Jesley leaving was a blessing and a curse
doubly sure I'm joking, very sad times. Alsor Maxime I read that as when you were eleven, which also works maybe?
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

I agree that it seems rather deserted here, i was browsing Daily like an hour every morning, now like 10 minutes? Maybe it is because i aint no interested in dozen in forum games and not much happen besides that.
It will kick out a bit with MG off season rolling i suppose.
PCM is also shittier game than it was, maybe that is also part of that?

Man Game Offseason
For some it`s still cycling Offseason
Basically PCM Offseason half a year after release and not yet time of many 2016 DB`s
Hitting those three at the same time is possibly not great in terms of activity.
All three though should be fixed soon I think. |

A big part has to be that the game has basically gotten worse in the past 5 years or so. Another part has to be that it seems like a lot of the active members from several years ago are gone, or dont post as often anymore (like me), and not as many of the new users have filled the gap.
Apart from the cycling section getting less active, I'd argue that the rest of the site has gone up in quality though, although not necessarily activity. The story sections dont seem as active either though, and I pretty much only ever used to visit: stories, cycling section and MG, so for me there is less reason to post.

I agree that since I have joined, cycling related activities have shot down and miscellaneous activity (games, other sports, off-topic) has shot up drastically.

It's still off-season, cycling threads will flood the forum once the cycling hits europe hard. I can't wait to spam those threads alongside strydz, Kirchen and Rijs.

I agree with everything people have said above. Times are changing.
When I joined PCMDaily I was a freshman in high school (sophomore when I really started to become active). Well, now I'm graduating college in April...
I don't have nearly the time for Daily as I once did, but I still like to float in and out for the Man-Game, The Two of Us and (in June) Favourite Cyclist Contest.
And it seems like most of the older members are the same way with life getting busier and we really haven't gain as many newcomers who can fill those voids, which is probably due to PCM not being what it used to be 5 years ago. Hard to say if it got worse per se, but it isn't as addicting as it once was (at least to me).
Hopefully, the site will regain some life as the cycling season gets going. But, sadly it's probably not going to be me that will be creating the engagement like I used to do in my "youth."

It's all my fault. If I was still getting my 7 posts per day out this wouldn't have happened.
But I mean, yeah, I totally see it. It's actually quite weird because when I joined this site I was 11; now I'm 16, will be 17 this year. And I'm obviously still one of the younger members of the site, but I feel like I've seen a huge transition.
People used to post so much. Just activity was insane. Some of the first things I remember were just the large discussion that could be had over small things, like the concept of a first person cycling game, or countless pages of argument in the cycling section over a race like the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, which was 2.1 at the time! I was amazed. I didn't even understand how forums worked at the time, and none of my friends would talk cycling with me. All of a sudden, I had a platform where I could talk all I wanted about everything related to it! And PCM goes with that. At that point I had just found a game that could immerse me as though I was in the Tour de France somehow. And so sometimes I think that maybe it's not that PCM 11 was comparatively better than later PCM's I've played, but that that feeling wore off.
I still visit the site countless times a day. it just feels like more and more when I visit it, nothing new has happened. Occasionally there's a technical issue I can't really help with or a result from a smaller race, but I feel like I have nothing to contribute. the story section, in my opinion is the main reason for that. I remember in PCM 11 and 12 there was a new story every couple of days. There's barely any comparatively in PCM 15, and it's been 8 months since release. I used to follow 5 or 6 stories, now I follow Fantasy Neutral Story every so often and that's about it. Story games have taken their place for some members I guess, but I don't play in them, so I don't really know.
Another thing is spamming. There's been very little lately, has anyone else noticed that? When I first joined, most members of the site would have great discussions almost every day. In the next couple of years, spamming really started to sprout and plague these discussions, though they still happened. And now, it seems that the spammers have subsided, but they took the degree of activity the site had known with them. And it's kind of dead around here lately. I mean, I've had 17 posts in the past 30 days. And while some of it might have been spam, I'm sure there are dozens of dates my time here that have eclipsed that total in less than 24 hours. It's really crazy. The discussion just aren't there, and so many old members are gone.
A lot of those old members like isso not only contributed to the discussions, but facilitated them. A lot of us that are left just aren't facilitators. if no one's saying anything, people don't say anything. At least I know I can get that way. The result is a lack of discussion in general. There is very rarely a new unique discussion anymore that is not a direct consequence of a race, news headline or organized event.
To be fair though, off season's are always a little slow. Once we get closer to March and Man Game fuels back up, I think the site will become more popular again.
Bottom line, I'm not going anywhere, and I hope you guys aren't either!

Everybody dislikes spammers when they spam and wants them spamming again when they stop, make your mind up.
Also I reckon the new ratings are hurting activity a little because you can simply press one to voice your opinion, while we need words to make a discussion, it's good when you click one when otherwise you would've said nothing but substituting a post hurts activity (I'm guilty of this as well though).

I don't have any evidence to back it up, but I'm pretty sure that PCM is getting less popular, meaning fewer new PCM.daily members, meaning fewer discussions / less activity.
If you look at the entire PCM community, you'll notice that several sites have shut down. A couple of years ago, there was 3 different Danish sites. None today. PCM Norway is gone too. PPDB, despite a loyal following, is gone.
If you check the official forums, there's no new posts at all today. Just two sub-forums have posts from yesterday - the rest are even more 'outdated'.
I had a theory that PC in general was in decline, but after checking some stats that doesn't seem to be the case. In fact, it's increasing even more in popularity than console gaming (albeit from a lower starting point). So perhaps, it's just PCM?
(And again - I don't know the sales numbers of PCM. But the communities of PCM are definitely in decline).

So I had nothing to do and decided to read the ~6 first golden pages of Café Pedro 6.
If you are ever bored, I suggest that you do the same.

I think I could be a discussion facilitator at this rate.
Huh... I was going to have a long and drawn out post about lack of activity, then chose not to be bothered, because I'm shamelessly ironic.

Many Americans are not into cycling anymore.. the Lance days are gone which is when so many Americans loved it. We don't have that star figure to watch or look out for anymore, so why even bother. Tejay maybe, but he hasn't been doing anything spectacular. If not for Lance I never would have gotten into cycling to find this site anyway.
