I just realised how badly Martin needs to fix his teeth. Thats just damn ugly
Well deserved win though. Seemed like the rest of the guys was contend with 3rd since Valverde obviously was the strongest today. |

Martin just lucky, nobody chased.
YOU CALL THAT LUCKY, IT WAS A SKILLFULL WIN AND HE DESERVES IT
He made a good attack and he forced his own fortune but you can't deny that he got extremely lucky there.

Haters gonna haaaaate. I would rather be 2nd than cramping up. But seriously, there really isn't much you can do in such a situation. In hindsight he probably should have went after Martin, but then the race probably would have had a completely other outcome. When you are the strongest, everyone is gonna look at you and unfortunately, the race wasn't harder so it was difficult to assert yourself solo compared to the other Lombardias and this year's San Sebastian.
Thats just my opinion, of course. Fact is he is leading the WT and is having a absolutely terrific season. I can't remember I have seen anything else in professional cycling which his results this year probably will back up. No matter what, people like you can the portuguese guy would have maybe some stupid comment either way, so... |

Yeah, Valverde has World Tour #1 spot again and Contador got probably a good excuse to skip Beijing.

Wait so Lombardia doesn't even deserve its own thread that's how much people care about it these days?
Anyway, I personally find it very interesting to follow the South American cycling scene - it's almost like a different sport there, none of this wheelsucking nonsense! and
so I noticed that Clásico RCN concluded earlier today, the second biggest race in Colombia (although it's not actually UCI categorised, I'm sure there's a story there somewhere but not quite sure what) and was won by the truly awesome Óscar Soliz (best thing that's come out of Bolivia? ). I don't think he's well known over here (he doesn't even merit a Wikipedia page) but he needs introduction - he's one of those South Americans who can completely obliterate entire fields at altitude (especially at high altitude TTs) - a few sample results from the past few years below:
https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/n..._Race_2014 Bolivian NC RR
https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/V...stura_Cbba 21k MTT
https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/V...13_Stage_1
https://www.procyclingstats.com/race.p...?id=117873 Extremely short mountain stage
https://www.procyclingstats.com/race.p...?id=108769 Difficult mountainous TT
So yeah, most of those are in Bolivia where I can't imagine the quality of competition is particularly high, but now he seems to be entering his prime and has made the step up in Colombia, beating the likes of Sevilla.

Valverde is having the same syndrom as Sagan has. Too good to be able to win in many races.
