Pathetic by Hirt, but Ciccone is pure entertainment. Some Ricco in the air, without the dope

Great win for Ciccone.
Roglic looks better on flat than uphill. Not sure if he will limit losses on the next stages but anything can happen. |

Amazing win for Ciccone. Well deserved.
Roglic must have gone very hard on that descent to claw back the time, but it was also pretty awesome to see all the GC guys working so well together to keep the gap once it got done to 45 seconds or so. You don't see that every day.
Also, amazing ride by Hugh Carthy. EF having quite a great Giro here, even though they're missing a win.
Finally, I have no fricking idea what is happening to Miguel Angel Lopez in this race. He goes from attacking, to cracking, to yo-yoing back on, to attacking again, to sitting on, to pulling, to getting dropped on a false flat where breakaway guys hang on. Bizarre.

Nibali must put gazillion teammates in breakaway and attack on Terento tomorrow. Well, I can't see any place where he can gain time on Carapaz except tomorrow's stage. Manghen all-out war is unlikely because of Movistar's team strength.
I expect today to take its toll on many riders, there will be some riders cracking tomorrow, even though I don't think Carapaz will be one of them.

Anyway, I think Landa looked the strongest today. Nibali is getting better and better but still not stronger than Carapaz, I'd say they looked equal today. Carapaz not taking a rain jacket on top of Mortirolo was a mistake by Movistar btw.

I think that Nibali knows how a big mistake it was to let Carapaz such a freedom whereas being obssesed by Roglic. He will pay for that it is highly possible.
There are no steep climbs left, just a long ones with an average gradients of 6% or so. I am not sure how he can drop Carapaz there.
Anyway considering he is 34 years old I think very great performance.
Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.

Not an expert in French, but it seems Vuillermoz suffered a such violent asthma attack during the Mortirolo... he fell down a ravine while climbing. |

Excited to see how Dombrowski finishes the race. Obviously didn't do too well today getting dropped from the break, but the steepness of today never suited him. He usually is very good at the end of these GT's, and the longer, less steep climbs should suit him nicely.

Madouas continues to impress with his high mountain performances in his first GT and first time even in such a hard climbing days (1x Paris-Nice, 2x Basque and the normal u23 days). Not a Sivakov or a Bernal but an even better climber than it seemed, every day he hangs on to the top 15 impresses me even more
