If we imagine for a second that Kessiakoff wasn't there.
This remembered me of Annecy-TT... Sadly.
For me one of the arguments that could be used to explain that Bert isn't full of dope was that he didn't overpowered the rest in both TT and climbing. but now he suddenly kinda does.

I think Il Giro was his best chance to do that.
Here, he'll probably be third, behind Contador and Froome. Or even worse, but I can't see who else could do better than him in the next week and a half.

He was far from overpowered today if you ask me. He beat a, by the looks of it, exhausted Froome and Valverde who isn't known to be a great timetriallist.
Plus, you need to remember that his was a really hard course. Hence why the GC guys were faster than for example Martin, who also probably isn't in top shape yet.

If the Tour GC contenders were here, then Purito would probably win because no one would attack him in the high mountains. But Contador, Froome and Valverde - even Anton - may. |

My thoughts: Contador isn't in top form. Froome is slowly dying and freaking Kessiakoff won the stage
Purito won't win the Vuelta. He'll get dropped. I'd say the battle for 2nd between him and Valverde should be exciting. Maybe even Froome if the last one doesn't run out of gas as fast as I think he will

Not sure Froome will attack much. His form seems to be vanishing a little more every day, whereas the hardest finish are yet to come. I can see him end 4 or 5th in 10 days, or even give up at some point. |

He wouldn't be leading after the TT if the Tour contenders were here though.

I don't think Valverde will be capable of that. But Contador will attack for sure. Don't know about Froome though. At some point he should lose his form. He was good in Dauphine, great in Le Tour, good in the Olympics. He shouldn't be able to continue like this for too long. And I don't think any attack from Anton will count for Purito.

Anton is a bust. Why do people not see it. Sitting in 11th place. Get's droppped before freaking Talansky on every climb. He hasn't showed anything in two years, and it's not a form problem. H's just lost something. I can see him pulling something from a breakaway but he will not challenge the top 4.

I haven't been following the race very close so far, but I was still shocked about something I found while searching for Mollema's time in the results: Menchov is in the race

Yes. he is in the race, but not racing. I also thought he abandoned the Tour after La Planche de Belles Filles, but it was not so apparently.

It's kinda sad for me to see a rider that I admired and that was not far from winning all 3 GTs having this kind of results. But, I guess he's getting old. At this point, I just wonder how much longer he will continue.

Well look at that..purito holding jersey.
they all will hate Contador..this guy wont stop...will atack and atack..and will collect GC win.
Valverde will survive..he and Vuelta has always matched. I remember when i waited when he cracks at Vuelta and he never did. I realy dont kow how Purito will manage..this man is full of surprises.
Hopefully Gesink will be better and soon.
Joke of the day..Froome did not win. he is clean! guy has been at top form 3 months for now.

Kessiakofff won which means locusts, dead cattle and red rivers is soon to follow.

Actually he if it wasn't for a huge bonk on stage 11 he would've finished 6th
Invisible but effective

Well, everyone has their day. Menchov "showed up" in 2003. That's a decade ago. You don't stay at peak ability that long other than in extremely rare cases like Boonen (and even he's lost his sprinting ability).
On a lighter note:
7. Joaquim RodrÃguez (Katusha) +1m16s
35. Denis Menchov (Katusha) +2m55s
But think to yourself: Menchov has already done his good GT of this season at the TdF. When's he done both the Tour and Vuelta well? Never

To be honest, I don't think anyone is capable of doing a good Tour and a good Vuelta in the same year anymore. Nor a good Giro and a good Tour for that matter.
It looks like even The Incredible Froome can't do that, so you can't blame Menchov
And even at his current level, I wouldn't call a top 15 a good Tour for Menchov. So I guess that's why I was expecting a little more from him.

Well, Mancebo was 4th and 4th recently. Evans 2nd and 4th, was it? Sastre 1st and....4th? And if it wasn't for the knee injury Contador could've won the double last year. He definitely would've at least been 2nd.

Well, I would simply because he was good for all except 1 stage. But it's just an opinion

He is just overrated by you guys. Has always been a stage hunter but had some luck with a weak startlist in 2010 (Peter Velits finished 3rd overal, nuff said).
What was his best result in a GT? 7th. He is just not good enough to challenge for a podium or even a top 5.
