Wow, looks done and dusted for Andy now. Quite the turnaround during the stage with Amador looking very good early on.
Huge disappointment for us, seeing Iturria and Stake Laengen chasing a 70 man peloton by themselves. Quite a few more minutes lost than I would have liked to see...

Nice effort from Choi, but in the end maybe the wrong move. I guess I'd rather take a stage win at this point over 19th in the GC.

Great ITT from Costa the last one. 6th is an excellent result after what has been a disappointing race for him so far.
Strong stage for the first time perhaps from Henao on Stage 18. 4th place is a very good result on hard day.
A little less action on Stage 19 but he's still Top 10 and that's about what he'll get in this race.
Saber still our man of the race with repeated high finishes!
Thanks for the reports roturn

Dissapointing stage after the fireworks of previous years. Sure neither of our current/former site runners (gratz to Quintana, well deserved after his active racing!) are complaining though
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Finally an effort from Chamorro. A bit too late to change his GC collapse, but better than nothing!
One more to go before a, hopefully succesful, Giro comes to an end. Lecuisinier have done as hoped so far, but Im pretty sure he’ll drop one spot (or more if the likes of Hirt goes early). Fingers are crossed that Tzortzakis will survive to have one final go on stage 21.

Mixed feelings, as Bongiorno hasn't gotten the AI luck this year. 17th for the final stage could still give him a break spot now, but this might've been the one stage per GT that allows big gaps already.
6th max tomorrow for Schleck to remain in a position to win ciclamino (5th to tie which I would like to avoid) does require another stage like this though, so everything depends on how Vesuvio handles the race.
It does seem smart to save energy for when the favorites attack to seal the GC victory, but then again when has PCM been consistently smart..
Plus even then, we still assume the liability of preventing a break win on the final stage and setting up Demare.

Of course Morton finishes as the best favorite, when it does not count
Unfortunately Dyball ain't strong enough to survive a winning breakaway, but good to see him trying and keeping his 30th place in the GC.

Just caught up after some hectic days.
The decent ITT by Alarcon only made the TTT-disaster feel worse. As he would have a real shot at a podium atleast otherwise.
Loved to see his aggressive style earlier though, just that his opponents were a little too strong this year for it to work as well as it did last year.
So kinda settled for this being an ``almost`` edition, then he smashes everyone and gets another stage win Feels like a decent damage limitation atleast in the end. Now to climb past Lecuisnier and steal that top 5 spot, perhaps clinge another stage win aswelll please!
Feel really bad for bushwalkers and Amador though, such stages are tough to swallow.

I expected much more action in this stage, Cattaneo could and should have tried to gain time for his opponents. Now there is only one more opportunity, we will see what he will do.

Well, one stage left. I didn't think it was going to come down to this but I hope Machado can keep his 7th place in GC.
Congrats on the stage CT.

Been away for the weekend, but very nice to come home and see more reports coming left and right
Not a great TT by Guldhammer, but a time loss had to be expected there. Though, the top 10 looks more touch and go now, with Abal and especially Cattaneo and Henao very close.
Wow, crazy attack by Amador on stage 18. Definitely one you'd expect to see, especially with Nibali's early work. A very nice stage by Guldhammer, have to be happy with him there, eventhough Henao gained a lot. Luckily he managed to make the gap back to Cattaneo and Abal bigger, which is a good thing. Also kind of dangerous to see Dekker, Choi and Quintana aim for the breakaway, as that could be tricky to handle both on stage 19 and stage 20. Would be great if Guldhammer decides to join them if they're aggressive again.
Good try by Guldhammer on stage 19, as he seemed to be strong The only "bad" thing there was Choi and Quintana gaining time, making both and Dekker real breakaway threats on the final mountain stage. Fingers crossed the big guns want to fight for that stage win, eventhough Schelck seems to have decided the GC. |

I was furious after having read the stage 18 report, seeing that Quintana had tried a desperate attack rather than just playing it safe and try to climb a spot or two on the GC ... but seeing how it actually worked out on the following stage, I'll just keep my mouth shut.
Awesome win. Saves a little bit of this otherwise very forgetable race. |

Crazy last 2 stages with Choi being the big lucky one! Quintana as well quite a bit.
Dekker losing 2 spots due to that and not having had a single stage result and unfortunately just one break attempt on the worst day to try this.
Quite a race to forget from my side and hopefully the worst of 3 GTs this season. |

What a stage from Choi! Lovely to see Stake Laengen in the break, but he's just on a level below a rider like Choi. Nice to see him moving up though.
Thanks for another good report, roturn.

Oh my what a finish by Lecuisinier, sticking to his rival, Alarcon also gapping the top riders infront of him.
4th in the GC is a top result really, when also the U25 jersey was claimed so early. Vasyliv for a decent 4th in the U25 competition too, and a good Team GC makes up for Chamorro and Vasyliv not ending quite as high in the GC as expected.
Matteo Fabbro sneaks into top 100 unless he drops by 8~ minutes on the flat (which could happen). Also Tzortzakis survives to stand a shot at a final good result.
What is really interesting is, that if we had one of the top 3 TTT teams instead of the one we sent, Lecuisinier would have finished 2nd here... What a display of strength from him. He'll definately be a podium contender next season with some added training. So will Jan Hirt btw!

Damn that's a cruel way to lose the KoM after holding it for so long and being so amazing.... great riding by Choi though.

Henao looked to be struggling, recovered and got 5th and still lost his Top 10 GC spot?

Slightly disappointed with what we got here in the end. No stage win and a 2nd place that feels somehow undeserved as it comes as a result of some serious misfortune from Amador and Alarcon.
2nd in the GC and a quite a few podium stages should give a good points haul, but I feel like we could have gotten more from what should be our best GT of the year.

Another disappointing stage for the team, not only did we not gain time for the direct opponents, but we still managed to lose a place in the GC well fone team

Wow, congratulations Meiji! Crazy strong ride by Choi. Must admit it's kind of annoying to drop one spot in the GC with only one second, especially as Guldhammer has been consistently better than I could expect in the mountains here.
But still, a top 10 felt like an ambitious goal pre-race, and actually getting it is nice. But the Giro overall is still a disapoointment due to Ciolek's poor sprinting, which is frustrating.
Thank you for another quality report, roturn, I've really enjoyed the final two mountain stages and the tense fight for GC positions. |
