A nice 6th in you home-country! Well done
Thank you! I was really surprised he would do so well, but the field was pretty weak.

Thanks! I did beat a couple really good riders but they probably weren't focusing on this race.

Great race! 2 stage wins, a 6th overall, nice results in other stages... it had to be Canada the place where David would really shine for the first time this season

So after a great race in Canada I now have a very long rest period before the Japan Cup. Europcar was not given a Wildcard for the Canadian PT races so I have one final race this season. I'm hoping I can do well there and ensure myself of a contract with anyone by that point.
Speaking of my contract, Europcar has told me they are working on a deal to give to me in a few days, but they also understand if I leave for a PT team? "Have they received offers from PT teams?" Anyway, its normal that during the Tour rumours go around about the latest signings and offers so hopefully I will hear of something by the end of July, however I do wish to hear it first in person rather than hear of the news, first by the media.
See you soon.

Okay, so its been a couple months since I last gave an update. Well thats because nothing much has happened since then. I went home and relaxed in Canada for the summer and then I went back to Europe to do some travelling. In terms of contracts, I have been in talks with Europcar, who want to give me a contract of minimum wage, and I have been thinking about this. However I have received another offer from a very big team and for a better wage. Do I stay loyal and go with Europcar or do I go for the big team, and take the money? I'll announce this later today after my Japan Cup report.
________________________________________________
Japan Cup
My plan: Well with two contract offers given to me, I dont exactly need to go out and make myself seen anymore but being the leader of this race, I do want to do well. It is a very hilly race and most of the big teams opted out of the race so we should se lots of attacks and not a lot of organization. Either way my last race of the year should be an exciting one!
So as usual a break made it clear, and they looked like they could stay away, so with 5km to go I attack and hoped to reach them. Miche was chasing hard, but I was going just a little faster on th slightly downhill road.
Diaz the Argentine of Velo Club la Pomme Marseille won just ahead of the other breakaway riders. You can just see me in the distance getting a good 10th place.
Result:
Rank | Name | Team | Time | 1 | Daniel Ricardo DÃaz | Velo-Club La Pomme Marseille | 4h06'13 | 2 | Alexander Gottfried | Team NetApp | s.t. | 3 | Yukihiro Doi | Skil - Shimano | s.t. | 4 | Vitaliy Popkov | ISD - Lampre Continental | s.t. | 5 | Jackson RodrÃguez | Androni Giocattoli | s.t. | 6 | Remmert Wielinga | Itera - Katusha | s.t. | 7 | Cristiano Benenati | De Rosa - Ceramica Flaminia | s.t. | 8 | Stanislav Kozúbek | PSK Whirlpool - Author | s.t. | 9 | Josh Atkins | Trek Livestrong U23 | s.t. | 10 | David Veilleux | Team Europcar | s.t. |
Team announcement coming soon!

Yeah, a nice result, pity the break did it otherwise David could win, he showed some good strength today.
I'm curious about which team offered and what will David's decision be. Staying at Europcar he can be leader of some races, which is a good thing, while going to a bigger team can make he get into bigger races, which is also a good thing. Looks like the next season will be interesting in anyway =)

David's Blog
Okay so I'm here now to announce who I will be signing with for next season. I told the actual team ahead of time (wouldn't that be horrible if I made them read my blog to see who I signed with. I'd be like Lebron James). But I just want to say that no matter my answer, it was a great season with Europcar.
For next season I will be signing with.......
I chose to sign with them because I think it gives me a great opportunity. I think its a great bonus that the team is mainly an english speaking team, and I like that there is another Canadian on the squad. I think this team really focuses on Time Trials and Sprinting so this was a perfect move for me because I feel those are 2 of my 3 best skills.
I would like to thank Europcar for a great season of racing, and that there are no hard feelings even though it seemed you guys lost interest in my towards the end of the season.
I think with the type of program this team has, I will be able to attain even better results than last year, and I hope to get a Top 10 at the GP Montreal or GP Quebec race if I'm invited to ride there next year.
For now I will just ride enjoying the offseason. Ryder Hesjedal has invited Barry and I to Hawaii to ride with him for a week so that should be fun. Maybe I can summarize the major transfer moves and give the rosters of the PT teams later, as well as a few Conti teams.
See you soon.

David follows the money then ?
I guess the good thing about Sky is they seem keen to develop young talents and are very scientific about training. Certainly a year or two with this squad should see David get to his potential fairly quickly!
On the flip side though there is a danger that David could be on domestique duty a little more often - though I guess Valv that is up to you.

@Alakagom: Thanks, I had a feeling people from the UK would especially like this move. David probably wont see too many leadership roles this season though. And thanks for the "Epic" words
@FreitasPCM & Sergi77: Thanks! David will probably look for success at the two Canadian PT races in September, but there will be more goals coming later on.
@Smowz: Yeah as soon as Sky offered him a contract, I thought "what a great move". Obviously I liked the idea of Sky and I only had to switch teams to control instead of sending David to the team I wanted as well. Sky should be a great choice, I see them as a TT team so David is a perfect fit I think. And yes lots of domestique work.
@olabj, Pelli & BikeRoel: Thanks for the kind words, I also hope for a good season but even though David's stats are about to explode (I reckon) we probably wont see as many wins as last season.
Team Compositions coming up shortly.

Here's my page and my skills, and also the rest of the Sky team for this season. Most notably, Bradley Wiggins left the team after Lofkvist and Rogers performed better than he did. To replace the team signed Roman Kreuziger and hopefully Kennaugh can grow into a great climber.
I would have liked to do all the other teams too but I ran out of time, hopefully this is good for now. I really like the Sky signings.

Kreuziger should be much stronger than Wiggins I think. He seems to be a great bet for the next GT`s.
For Veilleux it will be a hard time being one of the weaker helpers again. But he will learn and improve for sure. |
