Luis Leon Sanchez
I created this young rider a little while ago and posted him in this thread but I shall do so again because that seems to be what others are doing.

Spoiler

Name: Matt Payne
Nationality: New Zealand (Kiwi)
Date of Birth: 17th June 1996 (19)
Height: 175cm
Weight: 72kg
Specialties: Technical Genius, Intelligent Rider (Although these will have to improve), Bad weather specialist.
Weaknesses: Can't sustain powerful efforts (may change in a few seasons), not great in hot weather (will become better as he gets used to it), can lose concentration at such a young age (will disappear with experience).

Biography: The 19 year old Kiwi started riding at a very ripe age of 6. Having grown up in Taupo, one adventure capital in NZ, he spent a lot of his spare time riding around the forests and hills just South of Taupo. His mum or dad would drop him and his best mate off and they would ride all day before being picked up shortly after sunset. Techincally he is one of the best you get in his age group having ridden some of the hardest tracks in the country and nailing them. He also knows that he is capable of and doesn't overdo himself, he knows his limits and will ride on the edge of them. Because of the rather varied weather in his home region he did a lot of riding in the rain, the cold and even the snow near Mt Ruapehu, he is fearless and keeps warm despite his average build. However, he tends to be left behind by early accelerations as he is not the most powerful of riders but he catches back up later in the race. He is not used to the hot weather in other parts of the world. His young age and lack of professional experience will sometimes let him down as he fails to see that he needs to put in an acceleration to keep up and has at times lost amateur races following an early attack where he simply didn't read the distance and time he had to close down the leader.
Matt looks forward to racing with and against others who share his passion for the sport and has been inspired by the results achieved by other New Zealand riders in the recent past, especially the likes of Josiah Bennett and Lachy Bauer.

These stats are probably too high for a 19 year old so feel free to adjust if you want, just trying to show where his strengths and weaknesses are.

Also want to ensure that this is remembered for next season!

Possibly one of the most beautiful spots in New Zealand at this time of the year. The main snow drops have basically all melted away but there is still more than enough snow and ice to make it a rather testing task for all riders, regardless of weather preference. During the height of winter the area is visited by thousands from round the country and overseas who come to enjoy the marvelous skiing and snowboarding. Later in the season (so around late October) the snow goers head elsewhere but as seen in the following two photos there is still a lot of snow, ice and cold weather around.

Although it is potentially a great area for CycloX it is currently not used for it due to the jagged rocks lying in and beneath the layer of snow. They are certainly a challenge for any rider which explains the Technicality of 5. The uphill of 4 comes from the race being on the slopes of Mt Ruapehu, one of New Zealand's highest. They will obviously not be riding directly uphill but will ride on an angle to get uphill through part of the 2km circuit. There will definitely be snow and ice around at this time of the year but the rocky terrain will present at least half of the challenge. Another challenge can be the fog and low clouds which frequent the area and could potentially make visibility very low making the already tough race even tougher.

This particular course will be a 2km loop around the lower skiing slopes just above and around the Whakapapa ski resort area. The start goes for 20m flat before beginning the 1km uphill slope followed by the 900m sloping downhill leading into the final 80m straight to the finishing line. An exhilarating course where no focus can be lost as both the up and down hill slopes are on either snow/ice or jagged rocks.

Robin Huser
Spoiler

Name: Robin Huser
Nationality (region): Germany (Bavaria)
Date of Birth: 17.8.1996
Height: 1.64m
Weight: 65kg
Specialty: extreme strong acceleration
Weakness: impulsive rider
Biography: Robin was born and raised in the bavarian forest around Ansbach. That's why he became infected with the CX-virus early on. Although his parents weren't thrilled of his dream and also sceptical after the scandals around national hero Jan Ullrich and the Gerolsteiner Cycling Team in 2006 and 2008, they supported their son. The calm and unexcited youth of Robin ended with the diagnosis, that Robin's mother has cancer. Robin was 16 at this time. His mother died pretty fast, and his father didn't coped the lost of his wife and had a mental breakdown, so he had to go to an asylum and left Robin alone. Robin focused then on finishing school, because he thaught this was the will of her mother, but his goal is still the same: to make his mother in heaven proud and win a big cyclocross-race.

He had the reputation as a constant finisher, like Dobransky, but opposite to him, Daniel won just a few races. Yeah, so far 3 Kiwis, 2 Germans, a Bavarian and a Belgian.

The Germans all seem similar to a Lipawsky when put together. Pfft

My Monday evening gift to you all!

Thanks all for a wonderful season. See you in seven months! Wink Pfft

Ahh great stuff Ian. Lovely to dive into the memories of this season and see it from far out now. Sure I'll find some time for proper posts until end of november, hopefully also including Van Fleming's retirement rant. Wink

Mhm, but with two characters gone, I surely have a slot open for a new rider, do I? Do I? Pfft

(Although I really havn't thought about new guys though. mhmmm, some belgian dude surely would be something else.. blaster-foren.de/styles/default/xenforo/smilies.blaster/scratchchin.gif )

Surely, you could have another rider Pfft
Belgian would be nice, but I remember an early application that didn't make the cut, a Basque rider. That would also be interesting Wink

Small statistic: riders who succeeded themselves in a race this year:

Gormley - Duinencross
Cornelis - Ostrava
Hammarling - Torku
Bauer, Markson - Cont Champ (oceanic & american)

Big switches: (so rider A winning race that B won last year or vice versa)
Cornelis - Vague: 3 World Cup races, 1 Superprestige race.
Vague - Cook: 3 Superprestige races, 1 coca-cola race.

Only riders to succeed Vague:
Cook 3x
Cornelis 3x
Listerijn 1x
Vague 0x

Cook didn't have much chance to succeed himself. 2 races of the 4 victories he had last year were removed from the calendar. Vague and Lipawsky won the other two (Lee Valley & Christmas Classic)

Still, next year, it's hard not to see him do even better and go for a classification or perhaps even the top prize: that rainbow jersey.

Whatever crack The Scope is on, I want it :lol:Shock:lol:

Amazing piece though and a nice wee stat there Wink

15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

List of first 50 UCI numbers for the next season revealed.
All current riders minus the retired riders and with some riders added from the U23 or amateur scene who scored UCI points last year.

This also means we have 47 current riders continuing, allowing plenty of space for new riders. If there is not enough interest, I will either let some others continue or add own riders to the database. (eg if Van Niek or Young or ... don't get claimed, I might add them anyway)

And list of U23 or amateur riders I really wish would get claimed:

Pieter Van Dyck - the next Dutch big hope, has been a big part of the U23 scene last 2 seasons so would only be realistic if he made the jump to the pros. Not doing this wouldn't fit in with this fantasy world.

Adrian Van Niek - Big African talent. Could still have another season with U23 in worst case scenario, though. aidan was going to claim him, so I think he's still planning that Smile

Those are the most important ones. Chris Young would also be nice, but not necassary. A Canadian 24 year old who raced with U23 and now a year in the amateur scene in Canada and North-America.

Haha, no rush, sleep on it. If you feel you can take him in, do it!
But no pressure at all Wink

Also, I'm doing some bot-transfers myself right now. Expect an update on the teams soon and then you can really start to do transfers yourself, too.
Some big (bot) names moving, though!

Provisional Teams 2016 - 2017

Everything can still be changed. Put the 3 new Germans together, also made Santos disappear and create an NZ All Black team.

Riders left without a team atm:
Louis Listerijn
Shay Gormley
Sylvain Lipawsky

Ian Butler
You can also now nominate your riders for the NES trophy.

Riders automatically in:
Robin Huser
Matt Payne
Paul Rosanski
Louis Listerijn
Arthur Ledoux
Pierre Lavigne
Mohuti Sow
Camilo Osorio
Pierre Lipawsky
Stan Van Overberghe
Nicky Van Drenthe

Others eligible but not automatically in:
Mustafa Moli
Max Power
Guido Visconti

The other riders young enough are not eligible because they have too high a level already (like Markson, Goldenberg, Vague, Dao...)

Shonak
Vague not eligible, who knew
