Heh. Barbero from the Euskadi feeder team is mad at the spanish commentators
He tweeted words to the effect that 'Purito and Euskaltel are spanish too, you know? Not just Movistar and Contador'
Ah, commentators and their pet riders/teams. It's everywhere.

Why would Belkin help Sky? I don't get it.
Why would Belkin help Contador take more time out of their GC guys?
And how would they do that? Mollema won't be able to follow Contador nor Kreuziger, most likely won't be able to follow Froomebot either. Win/win for Sky, Loss/loss for Belkin.
In that case, why is Saxo bothering to attack at all. Froome will shut evreything down and win.
Lets just go home now shall we?
To make things interesting. Belkin aiding Sky with making this race boring is why I am against it.
They arent paid to do that though. They are paid to get exposure and results, both of which are are trying to achieve here (working the front gets your more coverage).
Personally, I think Contador turning up half fit made this tour boring along with Moviestar backing the wrong man.
EDIT: Although, this tour has been anything but boring tbh, so its all relative.
Contador hasn't turned up half fit, the Tour is pretty much his only goal for the season, he's just getting old. And if Valverde hadn't had that mechanical then he would be ahead of Quintana in the GC so I hardly think that's called backing the wrong man.

He'll never make it to the pro team now.
(Assuming they exist next year)

Not chasing saves Belkin energy to follow or chase Contador if, or more like when, Contador does go. Arguably the wiser decision for Belkin, when the sport can be a lot about piggybacking off of other people's effort. |

Thats why they didnt want Saxo out the front.
None of the Belkin guys will be able to follow a Cont attack. They can pull it back, but not if Cont can jump, then sit on a wheel. Hence they tried to stop there being a wheel for him to jump too.
Not that they are pulling anymore. |

There are 2 guys from Team Saxo Tinkoff, Roche and Paulinho trying to bridge to breakaway.
Are they employing 2011 tactics by Leopard trek were Andy Schleck attacked from way out, like 60 kms to go.
They have 2 guys Kruezinger and Contador in top 3 and can afford to take risks. Sky really pushing on so that they do not have that gap. I was hoping this would happen. I was thinking TST or Movistar (with Quintana) or Katusa (with Purito) might try this is 3 days to come. |

Saxo missed the bus this morning n now r sittting ducks in no man's land. Why didn't they send some1 in the breakway in the first place. This really shows a tactical blunder by Saxo.Sky will just ride normal tempo till the climbs n then the train will drop most of them.(probably not that many the 1st time out)

I haven't seen this posted, but it will prove useful at the end of the day - here are the top 200 times on Alpe d'Huez since 1991:

No way he goes sub 38 min. That's not full retard, that's 150% retard. I'd say a top 10, that would already be quite 'impressive'.

Yeah no way he reaches Pantani levels, particularly not with one ascent of the Alpe already in his legs.

But after they all got back together they could have gone a bit earlier when the gap to the breakaway was not that significant.

Rogers tried that but they were going too fast at the front

Thing is this stage isn't that hard - many of those other times would've been set after 2-3 big climbs beforehand rather than just 1. Not that I'd want to ride today's stage you understand
I'd surprised if he goes sub 40 minutes, my pick would be around the 41 minute mark.

It's the top 200 of all time. Look at the bottom and you'll see the 1980s times
Thanks

You might be thinking of CrueTrue.
@ isso - Ah I kept checking down and couldn't see them. That just shows what the doping days did. Also I'd be kind of sceptical of some of the earlier time accuracies, before electronic timing.

Thanks for that Count, once again a good read from the science in sport boys.
One thing that stands out to me from all these times is Pantani is just wow, how did this guy not win more? Such an enigma.
Oh and who the hell is Laurent madouas? Just looking at his results on Wikipedia, not someone I had heard of before...
