Wow, I'm stunned. I knew this was a chance with Pidcock, but can't say I thought it was likely at all. But we played that perfectly, from the initial attack from Tesfaye superbly scrambling the peloton, then Pidcock using his descending skills to get away from the peloton and sprint home. A first Monument victory for us is a massive moment in team history (nevermind being the first overall PT race win too!), and to do it with a home-grown rider is very special. And obviously the team had faith in him to deliver, seeing as everyone including Manninen sat up and finished in the bottom half. Can't say I'm mad, but I wouldn't have minded if Manninen felt like still sprinting for some points
While it's been a frustrating season on pretty much all fronts from our major leaders so far, Pidcock has been a shining light and the AI seems to know how to use him. So pretty much the opposite of what I thought our leadership problems would be this season!
Thanks Imladrik for the report and congrats everyone else happy with the result. Love to see a late-career Skujins podium, and also to see Vansevenant with a huge ride too ensuring that these two very different riders continue to find themselves very entwined with each other's careers

Interesting Racing. I have always loved when the sprinters are fighting for the secondary results here. And what a season from Pidcock, Vansevenant etc. The engine really Seem to like those types.

Nice to see Siric use his strong rouleur stats in a flat classic for once. Who knows, maybe 13th here turns out to be his best monument result this season
Congrats jandal! You can't really complain about Pidcock's wage/OVL when he's doing stuff like this on a consistent basis
Thanks to Laurens on the preview and Imladrik on the report

Not a great result, perhaps also because of the late working by the team to get Higuita back in the peloton. I can only wonder what we would have done without that puncture. 15th by Ruiz is not super bad either of course, nice result for the homegrown man, just not a lot of points coming from it obviously. Higuita 26th, guess we'll have to come back next year to see if he can do better without a puncture. But we'll see about that when the rankings at the end of the year are published and Halvorsen also top-50 in 35th is not an ideal finish, but with his climbing capacities it's somewhat expected of course.
Congratulations to the amazing Pidcock and Xero Racing. We can really say that Pidcock is a perfect successor of Schomber when it comes to making people realize they were wrong about someone.
Thank you for the great report, Imladrik!

Yes!! This is what I love to see in MSR! Props to all attackers who made the race hard and especially Skujins and Pidcock for pulling off the decisive attack.
I'm a bit gutted Lutsenko didn't try to go with them. But coming second in the peloton sprint and the resulting 4th place is amazing of course.
Very happy with how this played out, our own result and the deserving winner. Congrats jandal!

First of, it`s awesome to see that the puncheurs tried and delivered. Always special in this race when sprinter teams try to keep it together.
Next, Vansevenant in 3rd is obviously huge. Probably more than I could have expected, even though sending him here without a sprinter obviously made me wish, he would be that strong and bring us something.
Last though, not sure if I shouldn`t be a bit disappointed even. The team worked, which made the think early, that an attack would come. Surprisingly though it never came and other riders such as Pidcock, who aren`t stronger on that terrain were allowed to open a gap. If only Vansevenant had joined him there, even the win had been possible. So it was a bit too passive from Mauri but still the strongest from the big group in the sprint, which is also awesome to see as it should deliver a lot of points in many races when it comes to big group sprints.
Bax in 14th as only helper left for a long time it seems, with a fantastic performance as well. Definitely should be one of the 1-2 best support guys all year for Mauri.
Congrats Jandal, huge win, must feel the greatest win yet I guess.
Nice to see Groenewegen again best of the sprinters here. He used to do well in MSR in the past.
And of course thanks for the report. Was a nice read. |

Horrible fail by Schmid. Chasing instead of attacking. Could've been right there with Vansevenant, who he might even beat in a sprint à deux. But no, instead dropping back for no points. Awful.
And Groves, another big fail. There are few sprinters who handle the hills better (on paper), and it looks like we were positioned well heading into the Poggio. But 17th place, a disaster. Should definitely have gone for Ovsya instead, much cheaper and apparently a lot smarter.
Congrats to jandal, genuinely jealous that this Pidcock dude is just winning it all while Schmid has been decent at best.
By the way, ranking updates are delayed due to illness. Suffering from the Pidcock syndrome, aka "Acute unwillingness to do MG tasks because a random guy crushes PT while your own riders stink".
No, seriously, currently mostly in bed, will complete work on the updates as soon as I'm feeling better.

I got very excited when I saw my team setting the pace in the peloton. Unfortunately, my captains couldn't deliver at all. Hsu was dropped early and it really sucks to see that neither Quita or Gidich could get a decent result despite the puncheurs fighting for the victory this time.
Congrats jandal, Pidcock is such a cool rider! |

Nice to see Mohoric got himself up there to contest and pick up 11th place. This is the year I finally switched away from Top 10 MSR team goal - the correct move with van der Lijke in mind. Given that I changed it to Lombardia 'For Valter', I'm almost happy to not get a Top 10 here, perversely, to not really regret the change when Mohoric inevitably struggles there at the end of the season
It's really cool to see a completely different stat combination come to the fore in Pidcock. Nice seeing Skujins make the move stick as well, as a former rider, but also as sign it can work - and perhaps on another day it will be Mohoric instead.

Two of the top ten favourites according to PCM, 34th and 99th to show for it. Would be surprised if we're riding MSR again next year, but if we are remind me to just use it for XP gathering
Congrats to jandal, great to see Pidcock working out so well! |

After lasts year 2nd place at Liege- Bastogne - Liege, I never thought that Toms Skujins would ever be on the podium again at a Monument; but somehow he did! On his own he probably would have been caught by the peleton so it was a good thing Thomas Pidcock connected his wagon to the Skujins Train. Great report Imladrik and good to see the sponsor kit giving that extra graphical real feel to it.
