Marin with two top-10's, clearly trying to (join the) sprint, but just not finding the right time/moment yet. Some slight improvement at least coming from Portugal, by the time it's the TdF he'll be at 100% It does scare me that Higuita is always far from the first positions, and was now even in danger of losing time on a flat stage split again.
Conmiserations to Grieg for that puncture time loss on S1, let's hope the race proves to be selective enough now so you didn't lose many points because of that (and also that way Higuita can score of course )
Congratulations to stage winners Popo and Xero, Pidcock really is a beast nowadays! Thanks for the fine sprint reports, Ulrich!

Maybe Aleotti can get some GC points. Other than that we don't expect much from this TA.
Damn, that Wurtz puncture timing was savage...

Not the right ticket for that sprint for Peak. Not much to see there for us.
And wow, that Pidcock dude is quite something. Congratulations, jandal! |

Time to write off every single Cullaigh race day
Luckily for us we have stacked the team here with Oliveira and Yates good options. Let's see what stage 3 brings

This crowd really is too tough for Van der Kooij.
Commiserations to Cullaigh. Nothing seems to be working for him.

I gotta look closer at the profile cause I had no idea it was an uphill finish tbh. Luckily it didn't seem to matter much with AKA coming 4th, which is a solid result. Pidcock going crazy to start the year.

Vansevenant too good, must be a nice feeling for him getting that one over on Pidcock I do like him, happy it's him and Fastned (or Higuita) if someone had to get away - congrats roturn!
Great effort from us, always love a report covering how the domestiques are working so thanks for delivering that Ulrich As you say we only brought a small team but they all put big shifts in today.
Best case for us Pidcock can take 24-40 seconds of bonuses on Stages 5 and 6 and looks very good for a high GC placing with the short TT at the end. Don't love the current gap to the stage racers but with another couple of 1st/2nd places I could start to dream. Would be nice to get into the blue and white jerseys for some stages too for the extra points there, but the outright points jersey lead will do for now

Happy to podium! Valter seems to be the real deal this season, which is promising. At least it feels like he doesn't struggle against, on paper, stronger opposition. Curious to see how it evolves when we come to the Ardennes, where they will all be present.
Vansevenant is a very cool rider to win the stage. With the gap, he has also put himself in a brilliant position GC wise. Congratulations, roturn! |

Don't know how Rodriguez makes the split but not Shikai, disappointing result for us there.
We try again next stage!

Vansevenant 1 : 26 Pidcock
Well, it`s a first but many more to come until Pidcock eventually is passed.
Perfectly played on that stage. Second what Jandal wrote about the report. Loved the detail of domestiques working. It was brilliant to see that first Havik controlled everything, then later Denz pulled back the big guns and I guess Bax at one point as well must have been there or was the free role to support Vansevenant?
The team was really strong here and somehow Denz/Bax made it in group 1 as well securing the team ranking as well.
Once Vansevenant had that last attack over the KoM I knew, he was going to make it with his skillset. Perfect rider to do so on those kind of stages. Awesome win here and with his lack of 10 km TT skills any second gained is vital for the GC.
Must admit, first I was a bit worried to see Havik working but no Vansevenant in the picture until you mentioned, he is in the white jersey, which I totally missed.
Pidcock obviously still the rider of the season with all his performances, Valter as well doing decent, yet missing his big coup I guess.
OVL wise I guess slowly the decision why Vansevenant, Pidcock etc. are so high, must be reset. |

Katrasnik with another nice effort to keep the KOM shirt and get to tied 2nd in Points to keep the scoring going. TGH was positioned well and attentive. Love that, but still more challenges to come before the TT.

Nice to see Plapp staying in contention by finishing in the main group. I was worried for quite some time because i couldnt spot him on any pictures until basically the last km so already assumed he was dropped. So quite some relief to see this!
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Ideal scenario for us with 3 riders up front - sadly it's the wrong ones
If Theuns makes that split, it could as well be Küng, and we'd be in a great position GC-wise. Now we definitely aren't, as Errazkin isn't exactly a big threat against the clock.
Now it's up to Groves to get a couple of bonus seconds on the next three stages, which could all suit him. The downside is, he had a single good sprint so far this season, so not much hope. Therefore, some breakaway action would be really appreciated, guess we're yet to join a break this year.
Congrats to roturn, great attack by Mauri! Looks like there are quite some riders loving to do this kind of attacks, this time it was your turn

Alaphilippe is having a pretty damn remarkable race to be 3rd in GC at this stage - all thanks to a big sprint on the opening stage, not even the one with an uphill finish that may have helped. The final TT only being 10 km felt too much of a prologue for my liking in planning, so no Wirtgen; and never a hill team with Grand Duche clashing, so that's already a brighter team showing than expected.
Stage 3 already bringing the gaps. I wonder what that stage would look like if used in a Tasmania test with the Tasmania start list!

Glad this stage was quite selective. That eliminates some TT guns from the GC and increases Aleotti's scoring chances. Also decent rides by Malecki and Godon.

Fastned is on fire at the moment
Too bad Kron wasn't part of the main group, but we got Remco in there and I think he is one of the better time-trialists in that group.

Sad that Skjelmose couldn't hang with the front group considering some sprinters did. Also looks like half our team fell back to help AKA in the hills, which is... a choice.

This was the stage for Higuita to try and gain some time on other puncheurs/tt'ists, and I can't say he didn't try. But Fastned was just too strong again. Congratulations roturn Thanks for the great report again, Ulrich!

Looks like this might have been a better race to send Aranburu than Duche after all, with some significant splits and time gaps coming out. Of course, the main players are all together though, and Aranburu would have finished last of them after the TT if it stayed like that.
Quiet race for us now. One more good sprint from AKA would go a long way, cause otherwise it's a pretty poor showing from us.

Strange decision from Pidcock to attack there. Really cost himself energy to get in the bonus seconds and probably the stage win at the end. Hope it doesn't come back to bite us in the GC but I think it will.
