Pretty terrible result for Gerts. He should be on the podium in cobbled classics, not missing out on the top 10. Guess he gave everything trying to bridge the gap to Senechal. On the other hand, Van den Berg with a pretty decent result.

On one hand, great to see the Tinkoff duo really working together and getting something out of a race for once - iirc they mostly had pretty painful results in the last two years or so.
But pretty surprised that the hills had close to no impact - guess a favorite's team would need to field a big puncheur squad and one cobbles helper to make that part of the profile selective. Maybe it just was an odd race this year, don't exactly remember former results - but I find it rather surprising.

From what I remember it's always been like this with very little impact from the hills.

Teunissen has a relatively slow sprint and also doesn't like those hills too much, so him finishing 11th here is probably a decent result. Malecki in 20th is also nice.

Thanks everybody and thanks redordead for the report. What a week after a disappointing season start, first second place at San Remo and now winning Strada Appia Antica: We're back in the game!
