Desperate times call for desperate measures!
It would really be a shame to see them demoted. Granted, some of their decisions weren't that good (old Degenkolb, old Gilbert), but I mean, they also had some really bad luck. In an alternate universe Bjorg Lambrecht would've won Liege yesterday, a week after Stig Broeckx had won Roubaix.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Not really relevant for most of you, but big news for Swiss cycling - for the first time since IAM's disband in 2016 (along with PCT team Roth), Switzerland will have a Pro team again in 2023. Cancellara himself announced the novelty today - the coincidence with the Romandie prologue surley doesn't come by accident.
In fact, current CT team Swiss Racing Academy will be the core of newly founded PCT team Tudor Pro Cycling Team and hence will no longer exist on its own.
I'm really happy that finally someone launches a new Swiss team, is it will give the young Swiss many more opportunities to gain experience in medium to big races. Of course, guys like Bissegger, Hirschi, Mäder or Schmid arrived at WT level on their own, but having a PCT team definitely makes that step slightly easier than having only a CT team.

Nibali's retiring at the end of the year
https://www.cycli...d-of-2022/
One of the greats. Looking at it, he had a very normal career trajectory that you don't see much anymore. Gradual improvement through his 20's before becoming a perennial GT contender at 26. Stayed there until his mid 30's when he really started to drop off, but that's life.
I think it became clear to us and him on Etna that he just doesn't have it anymore. Not everyone can be Valverde.
RIP Exxon Duke, David Veilleux, Double Feature, and Monster Energy

I think that his shift from pure TTst to Stage racer costed him many years of career. It should be very stressful for a man of his weight.

Thibau Nys to Trek, as a stagiaire from August 1, full contract next year. A great choice, as they allow their riders to combine road and cyclocross.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Speaking of departures, TotalEnergies officially terminated its contract with Alexandre Geniez, following Geniez's suspended sentence for domestic abuse against his ex-wife

didn't notice until today that Benelux Tour is postponed to 2023 for security reasons.
Huge loss for WT calendar, this is a one of a kind Stage Race...

Eight riders and two staff members from W52-FC Porto were suspended today as a result of an ongoing doping investigation that started in April. The team will also most likely not race the Volta (they had already been banished from participating in Trofeu Joaquim Agostinho), and might face its end if more proof that ilegal substances were used.
On an unrelated note, former W52 rider, Edgar Pinto, was also suspended today for 4 years.

Unfortunately, the team has been invited and is cleared to participate… if they find enough free agents to fill out the needed spaces until next week. welcome to the Portuguese cycling shit show.
In other news, Pogacar might skip the Vuelta again. If Roglic is really badly injured, we could have a pretty open race once again (I hope), without a clear, standout name to win (don’t say Evenepoel yet, please ). |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but since points cannot be carried over, he'll start at 0 points and will have to get some top results to get into the top 10 so the points he scores actually matter?

Yeah, I think he’ll start with zero points. If he shows the early season form, it’s a super signing for Israel, as Teuns can easily top-10 most Italian classics in the Fall (assuming he will race those). However, I’m afraid even that might not be enough for salvation. |

As much as I love the announcement, the fact that it seems like the marketing team of Lotto Soudal doesn't know OBS and uses a software that highlights when LMB almost makes me wish they just didn't do it.

Qintana DQ'd from the Tour (giving up 6th GC) after returning two blood samples showing Tramadol. This is not an Anti-doping violation, but a breach of Medical Rules, so no long term bans or affects outside the Tour results.
