Chaotic finish in Tour de la Provence today.
Back to back for Ballerini

Quick Step always has a plan B, C, D, E.... ready to win. Pfft Assuming Alaphilippe would go for it today.

The first mountain stage of the season, and I'm already tired of mountain stages.

Mauri Vansevenant and Carlos Rodriguez caught my eye today. Vansevenant confirming what he showed in Fleche Wallonne - really hoping great stuff from him - but, overall, boring old Ineos tactics today.

Oh, and Matteo Jorgenson as well. Nice climb from him.

World Tour racing is back with a crazy stage. Grin

Van der Poel fastest in a reduced sprint after echelons split the entire peloton throughout the stage. Viviani and Dekker in the mix. Deceuninck had 5 riders in the main group but Bennett none of them, they tried with Cattaneo from distance, but no luck.

Main GC guys in contention: Pogacar, Yates, Almeida. Caruso as an outsider too.

There we go again with the UAE Tour.

A staff member of Alpecin - Fenix got tested positive on Covid-19. So the whole team is out of the race.

Which obviously means, GC leader and one of the top favourites van der Poel is out as well...new GC leader young talented David Dekker.

This is going to be the norm this season, especially in the smaller races with smaller budgets where the covid/bubble requirements are going to be harder to enforce.

As if there was any kind of covid bubble...even bigger sports such as soccer show that such bubble doesn`t really work. The stories about last years Giro? or was it Vuelta? show that even the biggest races fail to even come close to a bubble.

It does feel a bit unfair though. Last week Club Bruges had a massive Covid outbreak that included the coach, other staff members and several players, but the rest of the team just traveled to Ukraine and played their UEFA Cup game. Here we have 1 positive staff member and it's game over.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

From what I read it was the team who decided to withdraw, not any organiser/governing body making them leave.

I think Vuelta managed the bubble to near perfection, no positive cases especially during such fragile situation back then in Spain.

Will be interesting to see how João Almeida can match himself with the top-guns tomorrow. Seems in decent form but many riders want to play their cards tomorrow for the stage win. Should be fun.

Yates seemed better but didn't play well his cards on last km...

DSM had a Salmon, now they have a Stork. Fauna variety at last!

The results are really strange this year...

Florian fucking Stork?!?

I pride myself in following every semi-talented German youngster rising through the ranks, and let me tell you, he was NOT on my list to ever break through, and definitely not on a climb!!

His only notable mountain performances before have coincidentally been in this race, but in game terms, he just outperformed his expected mountain stat by 7-8 points or so. Shock

Van Vleuten already suffering from Movistar syndrome: https://www.cycli...ieuwsblad/

Quite unexpected finale for the men’s race. Still, DQS have such an incredible depth they can win with whoever they want to. Good race from Pidcock and a nice finish from other young Brit Jakey Stewart!

Also interesting to see Haussler sprinting to 4th, didn't expect that. Vanmarcke despite crashing and attacking really looks well. But Ballerini is in the shape of his life, what an awesome performance.

I was surprised to see Haussler too. This is the kind of result I would have expected from him 10 years ago.
