Well, they force the climbers to attack though. Lack of ITT makes climbers sit passive on lots of mountain stages, unless they lose time elsewhere. ( cobbles, downhills, echelons or pure madness like L'Aquila with lost of secondary contenders getting a 10 imnute headstart for instance on where they can lose time)

You know what is needed? Bad weather. Obviously can't wish for horrible weather on them, but it's what causes riders to break, to see the chaos settle, to see big splits in descents and attacks impossible to reel in. Well, most of what makes races unpredictable and exciting.

Indeed, attacks are impossible to reel in when the stage is cancelled half way through, and the attacker is given the Tour victory.

A grand tour can be decided by the TTs, so to say they are only slightly more interesting than a rest day is a bit of a weird comment to make. A decent TT rider can take as much time in a 30k TT than climber can in 2 or 3 Mountain Stages, when they all just watch each other until the final couple of k's.

What usually happen in the Tour innit? Excluding those who suffer with the heat there's no real challenge regarding the weather in the Tour.
