Holy crap! Hell of a time for AKA's first professional win!
Absolutely no idea how he pulled that one off. He was really far back, but once the Minions went ahead, I looked like everything fell apart behind, and it gave him a shot. I guess his flat really carried him there as he moved up the field. I thought he had no chance. I figured even Bonifazio would beat him. But he sure proved me wrong.
Well, some PT stage win points and the leaders jerseys are certainly a better start here than I could have possibly hoped for. That being said, there's still a lot of work today. Lierse still has probably the stronger squad here, and there are 8 more stages to go. Plus we had a lot to catch up on both them and Netia. We'll see how it goes. It's gonna go down to the wire. It really pains me that two of us have to go down.

I sense there's some Carlsberg battle going on here
We're here to finish off the season in style and secure that Pro Tour top-10. Allez, Sicard! |

Racing wise, good to see at least some kind of action, even with a descent to finish the stage. Beltran did okay, eventhough I was surprised to see him stay passive on the climb. Ideally, he would have been together with Boily at the very front, as almost two minutes down to the GC contenders would have been very nice, and most likely also very needed seeing the mountain top finish on stage 6.
Though, 40 seconds is also a good gap, which should secure him give it a proper try on the first mountain stage, which looks easier profile wise compared to this hilly stage. Hopefully he can avoid loosing any time there, if he manages, he should be in contention for a GC podium, being decided by the daily form on the Queen stage.
And what a win for Boily! Congratulations, Scorchio Will be interesting to see how his rather big gap affects the racing on stage 3. Surely the climbers must feel the pressure to take back some time? |

If Drapac already struggles this much against the time limit in a hilly stage, the mountain ones will be even tougher.
Congrats Scorchio! Your team has certainly been performing well the last few races.

Mmmm well not time loss to similar climbers is okay, but that gap left to Boily... I hope this stage doesn't come back to haunt us at the end of the race

Good thing I am resigned to slipping down the rankings yet being safe or I’d be super pissed off right now...

Haven’t been able to access the site for a little bit (anyone else had the same problem?), and glad to see the season is still in full swing. Great attack by Boily to take a courageous win. Brenes hopefully slips into the top-15 GC at some point as he tends to do and hopefully gossy can keep up appearances.
Thanks for the report!

Well, Garby really crapped the bed, although as I said from the preview, I was not expecting any GC fight from him given the hilly stages. Was hoping he would at least mark Senni better, btu I bet PCM had him pacing for AKA or something and messed it up.
Regardless, he can make up those minor GC points by being more aggressive in the mountains now, hopefully. As long as Senni doesn't leap up on GC, that might still be enough. We'll just have to cross our fingers.

It's not looking good so far.
The next mountain finishes looks tougher and hopefully that will play better for Dombrowski.

Happy with that from Beltran! Not loosing time was the objective, and only having Dombrowski and Sicard up front must be good. Now it's all to play for considering the GC ahead of the Queen stage.
The fight to avoid relegation in the PCT is just getting even more intriguing. Senni on his way to a decent GC, but then Garby and Carlsberg doing big work to race aggressive both to get in the breakaway and then to claim KoM points. If they continue like this, they'll definitely put pressure on Lierse. Though, Lierse must be favourites to avoid relegation, especially with two flat stages coming up, where Gaviria really should be better than Kragh, even with that freak win by the latter on stage 1
Thank you for the report, roturn. Must say I enjoy two stages a day! |

It's been a long while since I was in a race with two reports a day, so that was unexpected. Thank you for the quick pace!
It didn't work out, but terrific ride by Garby trying to be aggressive and really hit this race hard. For once, the team actually seems to understand the desperation and is trying all it can to make it count. Would have liked to get the KOM jersey, but hopefully Garby is high up enough in that now to continue to be aggressive in later mountain stages.
We need all the aggression and points we can get, as Senni could easily creep into the top 10/15, and Lierse could get a freak stage win just as easily as we did with AKA.
Keep pushing guys! That's all we can do. AKA already made up some points on stage 1. We got two more sprint stages coming up. He has to mark Gaviria the best he can.

Some activity by the riders, nice! Martinez pretending to be the GC leader but still going for the attacks. Also, Drapac hasn't OTL yet

Oh Velits you beautiful man with your long range attacks, I’m going to miss you! Very cool and valiant ride to stake a claim in the KOM fight and regain some GC time, real shame he got caught as that would have been such an epic stage win

Kragh
What a way to respond to the threat of relegation. But Lierse with Pelucchi (!) seems to be up to the task as well, but it must be annoying that Gaviria isn't joining in on the fun.
Great job by our team, just a pity Ciolek couldn't finish it off. Looked like he waited a bit too long to start his sprint. Hopefully we'll get it right sooner rather than later, as the chances to win a sprint here become fewer and fewer. |

Stage 3: Good result for Kudus, taking those bonus seconds to put him alone in 5th place. But we need to do better to drop Beltran and Boily and get that podium place. Still 1-2 in U25 so things looking great in that matter
Stage 4: JURGEN!!! What a beast, coming clutch when we needed the most Surely the final 50 or so kms being in a false flat helped him being the best puncheur of the sprinters. Tomorrow another great chance for him to keep giving us big points before Kudus hits the most important stage in the race

At least Drapac sprints this race, that should be an achievement in itself.

Van Poppel is very disappointing so far. It looks like Il Giro is the only race he can actually sprint.

WOW! Out of nowhere, Boily (finally!) rediscovers some form after a very lacklustre season. Stage 2 was obviously excellent for him, but perhaps more impressive was his defense on stage 3 (along with what looks like good work from his team mates). Stage 6 looks far too tough for him to have realistic aspirations to hold the jersey, but if he can fight on, a chance at a decent GC if he doesn't completely collapse.
Think this may be the only time this season that WCC have benefitted from accumulating lead jersey PCT ranking points, and this obviously comes at a crucial juncture. Even Lay is getting involved in the sprint stages; falling short but participating at any rate. Fingers crossed our strong racing to date in Morroco continues through all 9 stages .
Thanks for the reports Roturn, and also to those offering congratulations.
