Nice win for McCarthy! Valuable time gained on the climbers. Mt Fuji should be interesting.
And what a beauty Mark O'Brien is not sure how he made it, but to finish in this first main group for a provisional 15th place in the GC is great. Of course he won't keep it, but it's nice. Maybe it will give some TV time on Mt Fuji now?

That was OK, no idea how Kreuziger lost 6 minutes there, will definitely sting if he gets a decent result in the mountain TT, but MAL and Siskevicius still in the main GC group, white jersey also looking like it will belong to us. Stage 4 will be brutal, hopefully not brutal enough to eliminate us from GC Top 10 contention

Solid TT by Mat Senan, unfortunately he had nothing left for any kind of GC ambitions. O'Brien hadn't his best day, but stays inside the Top 20 for one more day. Expect him to get slaughtered in the crucial hilly stage though

Ah yeah, Spar is killing it here, great to see the big Austrian delivering.

Bad showing by Siskevicius here, but luckily MAL kept himself very much in the contention for top 10. U25 jersey seems to be locked up, just gotta hope for no funny business on stage 5 and take home a nice warchest of points

Mmm, not going as planned/hoped for in this Japanese outing thus far for WCC. Didn't expect a lot from the prologue, and Redecker did a decent job of showing the jersey in the stage 2 sprint, maybe even better than eventual 7th was possible if hadn't got himself boxed. Stage 3 though was disappointing given Koshevoy was doing a lot of donkey work late on in the stage, I though at least Betancourt and Ji must have been benefitting, but turned out Ji already dropped, and Betancourt failed to respond to the late stage attacks. MTT kind of what I expected, but no-one in top 20 overall after 4 stages when pretty much convinced myself would have 2 riders at this stage is a bit deflating. Need stage 5 to be decisive now for Betancourt to make some GC progress if this is not to be a bad hit on the ppRD.
Thanks for the reports thus far, and congrats to the stage victors to date. Indosat's great season looks to be continuing here, and was impressive to see an amateur team deliver on the sprint stage.

Bad day from Choi, and terrible for Kinoshita, who I was hoping would not lose quite that much time. Looks like we can only really hope for a Top 5 at this point.

Ugghhh, why do I bother??? Meintjes again is being underwhelming, would take a top 5 GC, but will he get one? probably not

It's a shame that my guys don't make the breakaways, fighting for the KoM classification is all we could have done here.. As to be expected, we got smashed in this stage, so O'Brien goes down to 45th in the GC. I may ask for joining the last breakaway here, though.
Intense stage there. Kwiatkwoski living up to his role as the favorite, but Denifl should be happy as well, if things stay like this in the final stage. Kinoshita missing out on both a stage and a big GC result then. Maybe Itami can do some wonders for Meiji now

Not the most desirable performance from MAL, luckily still kept his top 20 spot and white jersey, which is very good.
But finally Siskevicius did something other than being in a herd and just following others. Too bad he couldn't keep up, but a great showing by him, gets himself into Top 20, some extra points baby.
Maybe Kruopis/Dzervus can get some extra in the last stage, wouldn't mind that.

Great to see Netia winning, very well deserved. Pichon light at the end of the tunnel for Nordstrom, while also Spar can be happy with today's stage.

Just a bad race from us. No stage win and not nearly good enough in the GC either.

Ah yeah, Tosh striking again. Just give him leadership and he'll deliver. Big one for Xero to finish the race off

Gatto's attempt at sprinting does make me smile, he got the right wheel but clearly doesn't have anywhere near the acceleration to do anything once he gets into that position.

11th ain't a bad result for Jones in this sprint, actually. A pity he missed out on a Top-10 though.
No breakaway appearances suck, but O'Brien had a couple of days inside the Top-20.
Thanks for the reports! Time for ProTour action

So. Yeah... Didn't even know we were riding here, but then some unexpected Kip-points in the end.

Can't believe the race I missed was Kwiat finally winning!
Really well ridden by him and Dyrnes, tactically played it well, stuck with who he needed for once and didn't overcommit or (like usual) undercommit.
That was a tense final hilly stage though, thinking first that the break could steal it, then that Denifl would keep it, then that they'd lose it to Kinoshia or Monsalve... Really really pleased to see him finally come out on top though!
Thank you so much for the reporting, some really nice writing there!

Conscious I don't want to bump a bunch of old threads on my trawl back through races, but with this one quite recent I thought I'd comment. Plus getting a good result helps
One of our better races of the season for sure, and one that I hope will put us right back into the thick of the promotion fight. With Yates having only used 2 RDs so far and McCarthy still having a number of races he can score well in hopefully this kick starts a good second half of the season for us. Thanks for great reporting Aquarius |
