What actually is the reason behind UNISA? I think it`s a good addition and nice experience for those riders. But isn`t there normally a restriction for PCT teams only as wildcards in WT events? Is this the only excemption all year?
If I recall, WT events are allowed to 'invite' a national team made up of riders from the CT/Amateurs, but a lot of them don't do that because they already have several PCT teams from their nations. I know that the Tour de Pologne invites a Polish team just about every year. So essentially instead of Uni SA you can just read 'Australian Team', with Uni SA providing the sponsorship.

Thanks Count for this. Forgot Pologne also has a National Team. But didn`t know that theoretically all WT events could add them. Thought it was only HC races and below.
Anybody knows why Neil Van der Ploeg was replaced with Giacoppo in the UniSA team? |

Mistake from what I've heard from other sources, could be wrong
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

New year - Sky once again hit the front about 10 minutes too soon.
Whatever Swift is third tier. Ewan surely big favourite here.

Impey-Ewan combination was very strong towards the end.
Bevin also with a strong leadout. Wippert just couldn`t follow, which would delivered him possibly the best position of all.
Sky was far too early and tried to control everything. Still Swift as 4th was doing fine in the end. |

Go Ewan!
btw does anybody know what happened to Rojas? Would've expected to see him up there.
@Smowz: Really wouldn't call Swift third tier, MSR podium and several podiums on GT stages, so he really is a decent rider, I would've picked him as best sprinter here besides Nizzolo and Ewan.

Movistar was not really going for it today it seems. Neither Rojas nor Lobato up there.
Will be interesting to see their TdU tactics. I could even imagine, that Rojas is aiming for a decent GC there depending on Fernandez` form. Rojas seems to have some nice early year form and was training hard on Willunga. |

I disagree - he is decent no doubt and has really good climbing ability for a sprinter who has a couple of WT sprint wins. But he certainly isn't anywhere close to Griepal, Cav, Kittel, Kristoff who I call top tier guys. Degenkolb is probably there as well. Pelucchi, Nizzolo, Ewan, Viviani even Mezgec are slightly better imo then Swift who is in the Rojas sort of position for me. Stil a decent
To be honest he did well to finish 4th in the end and to be fair to Sky they seem to take the DUC as a bit of a hard training ride, they have quite usually been riding on the front and fair poin trek he is probably going to be hunting a few podiums in the TdU with most waiting to we get to the middle East (and some nutters who stay in Europe)

I agree with what you've said here, I think we just have different definitions of a second tier sprinter, as I would add Rojas, Coquard and Swift to the list of 2nd tier sprinters you've mentioned and call Haussler, Boeckmans, etc. third tier sprinters, who imo are worse than Swift.

Gosh, start of cycling season is already upon us, it didn't actually feel that long an off-season to me! I still have my doubts about whether it should be WT, but nevertheless the TDU is always a fun race to follow at the start of the season, get a look at the new peloton with all the jerseys and work out who's signed for who after once again failing to follow the transfer season enough

Judging by his early season form it seems like Caleb Ewan is going to have one hell of a season ahead of him |

Yeah, it certainly seems like he has improved from last season. It will be interesting to follow him throughout the year. |

Let`s wait until after the Tour Down Under or better the March/April races.
I am sure he will have a nice season to be honest. Orica has done well with him and a reduced schedule last season.
But so far he was racing 5 crit races of which he won 4. But it`s something different than a real road stage in which other sprinters might feel better.
Also some of the other trains need to find their rythm first. Cannondale for example has a train and sprinter, that are new into the team.
Renshaw and Henderson are leadouts, that are main sprinters here.
Movistar was not really going for it today. |

TDU already - super! I can almost smell spring, even if there was a rare bit of snow here over the weekend.
All Aussie podium again this year or perhaps Ulissi or Henao to intervene?
Time to seek out the one hairpin corner near me that's a spit of Corkscrew Road and pretend it's 30C warmer... |

Does anybody know a website that you can watch the race after it happens (found a few livestreams but they won't let me watch it later)?

Cyclinghub uploads a lot of races. They uploaded the entire People's Choice Classic yesterday so I suppose they will upload the actual stages of TdU as well.
