All our riders beaten by our last year team-mate, what a day
Baugnies doing what he does best attacking pointlessly with X amount to go and burning himself up, and to add to the insult having Steeurs and Vanbilsen who should do that instead
At least Hornbach won, delighted for them, escaping the bottom! Pink power!
Thanks Smowz for the report!

First thing to say... That was an incredible report! I don't quite know what it was but i just loved it. Really informative with a nice amount of artistic embellishment thrown in. It was like i was reading something pro, not a community site.
Second, Franzoi showing why he is going to be a serious rider this season. Hornbach will be very happy with that. Bpost are almost forgotten already
Third, Grashev was awesome! It was close but to even be in that position is beyond the hopes for him. TourRSA really gave him some good legs coming into this event. Thomas was quiet behind but a Top10 is a good result considering his relative dislike of hills, and that hill is gaining a reputation as a killer climb. It was a good race for B3B and i hope that will translate to the rest of the cobbles now.

Couldn't have asked for much more. Future great Altur jumped into the breakaway and Ventoso finished it off with a 3rd place.
Yeah that's right, a Spaniard finished a tough cobble classic in 3rd place. The cobble invasion is starting.

Of course I didn't expect much but I would have liked Osteragard to finish a little higher instead of my entire team being in like 30th place.

That was awesome! Both race and report. Congrats to Hornbach, great solo by Franzoi.
Pretty boring ride by Gazelle. No attacks, hardly any chasing and a rather passive Nuyens indeed. You said "perhaps not aided by having a teammate forward.", Smowz. Was there maybe a Gazelle in front that was overlooked in the report?
But I can't complain about 5th and 16th of course. Boring Nick did have a good final kick. Ok, I'll see myself out..

meh Roth doing great in the break and Machado dropped on the flat probably isn't a good sign. |

Great report Smowz! I was nervously waiting when you kept mentioning a reduced 20 man group to see if Lagab had made it, so was good to see him there when you did list them. And 9th is a very nice result for him, will definitely take that.
A bit disappointing that Bakari got dropped though Hoped he would last a little longer on the flat, before obviously failing the climb. 35th is a decent enough start though, bodes well for the target of Win / Top 30 in E3 Prijs!
Hornbach finally get their season going properly with a great all round team performance and a well deserved win. Good result for Boeing too, less so for Amex in their ugly template NC jerseys. Quickstep should have done better too.

Thanks for all the comments! My first man game report was a cobbled race and I think my 2014 first was certainly a nice race to report on. Neat little action packed cobbled race.
Don't know why some if the hill hating cobblers were dropped, maybe they just didn't fancy battling for position at end hill? Or perhaps the wind?
QS and AMEX had a disappointing race, AMEX had Eisel on front a lot so Breschel doing nothing was poor. Similar with QS and Steurs. It could be that there are better races for them.

As said by others, that was an amazing report!
Really gutting for Quickstep to not have anyone in the top 10 - they will have to perform better once the racing turns to Belgium.
Great news for Hornbach though! Franzoi looks like he may be the one to watch this year!

Thanks to Smowz for a very entertaining report of what turned out a good race - fabulous viewing for the neutral observer. Nice to see the first cobbled race of the season ran off without a total AI fail (well the favourite won!), some faith restored .

PCM does that. If it sees the hill in the end then that's all it sees. It's now a hilly cobbles race automatically. just like if there is one cobbled section early on it should be a sprint, but all the cobbles favorites will attack later anyway.

No points I guess, Bikienga couldn't quite get high enough. Nevermind, didn't expect much anyway.
Congrats to Hornbach and thanks Smowz for the mention in the report, even if for the wrong reasons |
