When I see riders crashing then go ahead even if they are severely injured...
Example of Tony Martin
Riders are brave, when you see football players they simply can't do the same thing |

I like riders who look like they're giving their best. Riders Gesink, Dan Martin, CA Sörensen, Jens Voigt, Mollema, Voeckler and Evans are all riders with a 'mine worker' style.
What I also enjoy are displays of power. Accelerations by powerhouse riders like Cancellara are always awesome to watch.
I agree. Though Gesink's style isn't really similair to Mollema's style. Though 95% of cycling fans disagrees, I really like Mollema's style.

Hamilton in 2003 is something that really enjoyed me aswell back then. (Now I know he payed so muchmoney to his doctors he couldn't afford quitting)
Emotions after wins or defaets are great aswell. Istill remember how grumpy Evans cried on the podium in Mendrisio and won a lot of hearts with the fans

That on any given day, no one has more than a 50% chance of winning
Also, when someone wins their first ever race, and genuinely can't comprehend it as they cross the line.

Great thread
I think for me it is the constant weaving of narratives. Every day of a race tells a new story and is a new narrative. This then contributes to the larger narrative of the whole stage race. So not only do you have a fight for who will win on any given day, but you also have the fight amongst GC contenders to win the overall race. Or things like watching Hoogerland trying to recover after being hit by the car - while the race was going on around him, there was also the story of him just trying to survive the race.
Then you get these races themselves contributing to larger narratives of the season - if you think back to last year early in the year the stories about Wiggins then those races all became about the same story - could he win the Tour?
This is all probably because I'm an historian, but narratives fascinate me.

For me, it's the exhilaration of everything come before. The history, when you think of all the battered men who paved these roads by fixed gears, the thought of legends who rode in the same peleton. The imagery of the 10th century buildings. The crowd that cheers on everyone. And then the perserverence. Watching Martin fight through a broken lung and concussion. Thomas fighting through his fractured pelvis. Hoogerland being hit by a car. Then you see how, even though they failed, doped riders can come back, those who cheat can be washed clean. It's amazing. So inspiring, yet you know that even one like you can be that rider. Maybe not actually him, but you can triumph in your own riding, everyday. These are the reasons I love the sport. Not because Cavendish is cool, or Sagan can pull off any stunt on two wheels, but because of the passion.

For 5 years now July has meant the Tour, and there are only two things that make me think of the Tour every time. 1) The horns of the cars, and you know which ones i mean, and 2) The ITV theme music Always cheer me up.
Cycling has this history. Most major sports, like rugby, football, cricket etc., have their history, but none have it so closely linked to the modern sport. Cycling loves its history, and pays homage to it every time the peloton is in action. Just look at this TDF, every moment is dedicated to it's past 99 editions, and next year the very same, and the year after, and last year, and the year before.
But forget all that! That does not make cycling special, it makes it old, traditional. What makes cycling special is it's accessibility. Anyone, ANYONE, can ride and race on the same roads. I can race my friend up L'Alpe or across the cobbles. I cannot score in Wembley. Anyone with a bike is a cyclist and can take part in the sport.
Cycling is always a tricky subject, but i am always proud to be a cyclist and to love the sport. For every Armstrong or Ullrich or Ricco there is a Voigt, a Voeckler, a Chavanel, a Cavendish, a Boulting, a overly keen Amature.
For every bad there is a multitude of good, which many other sports just can't offer. Cycling is for the die hards, the brave, the fanatical, the real person. No one can hide, no-one can shy away, every man that crosses the line has earned it, played their part.
It is a chess game on two wheels at 20+mp/h that lasts 3hours. It ranks everyone individually but uses teams. It pushes the riders to new limits. It actively tackles it's problems. It brings the action to the fan. It draws you in. It constantly evolves.
Every kid that gets a bike knows the feeling, that feeling of freedom. You can go any where. The wind will whistle through the hair as the sun shines down. The wheels eat up the distance and the legs just turn onwards. There are very few things the current generations have in common with their parents and grand-parents, but a bike is one that stands on through the test of time, and there must be a reason.
Cycling as a sport and riding a bike are inexorably linked together. Without those kids in the summer there would be no sport.
Cycling is made of small things, fleeting moments, and without them it would not be cycling. Cycling... It's not about the bike...

My favorite parts about cycling:
- Talking to parents about and they look at me like I am crazy, we had a guy name Bill (worked with my dad) lives 5 miles from Stage 21 finish of le tour. We talked for hours about cycling, he invited me to house for the tour any year I want! Probably 5 years hopefully!
- Saying the word "peleton"
- Breakaways & the Polka Dot Jersey
- The last 20km
- The announcers Phil & Paul!!
- Lastly, Any American cyclist, I hope the sport grows over here and another GT winner from USA happens.

I really hope it's Tejay, such a cool guy. Hopefully Evans has taught him well.

Maybe, but all my PCM saves say that Dombrowski is the one.

I don't care if its Armstrong, I just want to see an American up top again.

It's "pel oton", actually.
Ask half of the American people what that word even means, they won't know, so my e in peloton is good enough

is Sky doping in that too?
for me, it's the sheer admiration (for an unfit guy like me) of people that can last for up to 7 hours in a saddle and biking 300km (in the case of MSR) or riding 200km daily for 3 weeks |

Why do you want players to die of ear cancer?

What? I mean, seriously? Is that sarcasm?
Personally, I honestly don't know why I enjoy cycling so much. I guess the unpredictability and uniqueness of the races that has been mentioned by others could be a reason.
