I said the "why the hell" answer... Never EVER owned anything from Nintendo except the DS. I absolutely will NEVER betray the Sony experience. PSP, PS Vita, PlayStation, the greatest consoles ever made in my mind.

Your playing PCM on a Microsoft system, betrayer!
You.Have.Been. Owned.
I saw the PS Vita is new. What really are the improvements. Seriously, I'm asking. I don't know.

First handheld with two joysticks and similar graphical abilities to a PS3. It is kind of DOA however as it had next to no launch titles and didn't get anything new for a while.

Just got a wiiU. Spent most time with Pro controller, not a fan of the gamepad. Very bbulky, like an oversized Gameboy. I've been playing ZombiU and it's great. More coming later.

Nah, this ain't a sensation as the Wii was. The Wii was the first time you could move around and play at the same time (okay i admit that the option was on PS2 too, but not in the same way). This is just a normal controller with at screen. (I'm not sure, but i even think you could do ut on the old Wii to, if it's connected with a Ninendo DS). So no, i don't think it was interesting...

As far as i can see that an Xbox360 controller there... with some minor changes
Also the graphics look the same as a 360, and the console itself has a feel of microsoft about it
hmmm, it seems nintendo are no longer just re-doing their own ideas any more.... cant say im surprised though
Actually the tablet link in with game and contoller deal seems quite nice, if entirly pointless for most games
oh and @fcanellara
nothing will ever be as awesome as the N64!!! unless it has tits
One thing that people seem to forget is that nothing on the 360 controller is original.
4 diamond face buttons - SNES
Start/Back (select) - NES
Analog Stick - Nintendo 64
D-Pad - NES
Shoulder Buttons - SNES
Triggers - N64
Battery - Gamecube Wavebird
So Xbox copied Nintendo. And they used the same basic layout as the Gamecube controller. Since the shell design was so drastically different, they got away with it. As far as I'm concerned, Nintendo sacrificed profit to change it so it wouldn't copy the basic design they invented with the Gamecube.
BTW early photos including the one in the first post show that the original gamepad had analog pads like the 3DS. Glad they changed that.
As I've been playing I noticed that a lot of games show the game on both the gamepad and TV. Which can be nice, but also suck. It's very distracting to try to look at the tv and have that in your face. And when you use the pro controller the pad stays on 9IMagine a DS with both screens doing the same thing). There is no way to turn the gamepad off unless you let it die. And the pro controller doesn't have a headphone jack for online, so you have to tape yourself to the freaking gamepad while you play. I think they will revise that part.
Despite all these gripes though the graphics are actually better because they run 1080p instead of 1080i. They're the first ones to do that and the games look nice. o far I have:
- Nintendo Land (I got the deluxe bundle)
- New Super Mario Bros U
- ZombiU
- Fifa 13
- Madden 13
- Scribblenauts Unlimited
- 007 Legends

Having tried the Wii U console on two different occasions with a lot of time between (about 6 months), I would have to say that it's not a bad console. Nintendo continues with what they usually do. That is trying out things that are different. It's way too early to say if it's a hit or a miss, though. I will get myself a console in the future. It'll probably collect a lot of dust, but I find it useful when I have friends over because of all the (judging by history here) good quality party games. I have yet to try out Sony's take on Smash Bros. and Mario Kart (PSABR and LBP Karting), but I doubt they are on the same level.

Playstation allstrars is okay, but it is inferior to Smash Bros and talk about copying, it's a direct copy.

Already distirbutors of sports games are cancelling out the Wii U, so there you go. The Dreamcast 2.

honestly I don't find that surprising, I think that sports games developers make one game and port it to the other system. nothing needs to be changed except the buttons shown. they can't do that with the Wii U
edit: if this happens again next year, I think you might be right though
btw, before the Dreamcast Saga had released the Sega CD, Sega 32X, and the Sega Saturn and they all flopped, Nintendo's only arguably flopped console is the Wii. so I don't think it's the Dreamcast all over again

Why? They don't have to use the gamepad screen if they don't want to. It can be an easy port.
The Saturn flopped and Dreamcast tried to get a head start and ended up losing everything. Before that the last major thing was called the Genesis here in America. Pretty popular.

If it was just that, it'd always be worth porting over. There's a lot more to porting a game than just changing the buttons shown

Nintendo would never allow that, as it is the major selling point to the Wii U. Its why every game ported to the Wii or DS is always that bit more different to other versions, as the developer has to work in a token touch screen or wii-mote moment.
The Wii U has lots of benefits, but the nature of it as a system is prohibitive to porting across games. While it could work really well for many sports games, financially it is not majorly viable, as the vast vast majority of the target audience will be on PS3's and Xbox 360's.

Why would Nintendo not allow them to make a game? That makes no sense... There were plenty of Wii games that stayed similar. But unlike a Wiimote, a gamepad has everything everything else has- just a touchscreen in the middle. If you don't want to use that you don't have to. I have a couple of games that don't uuse it now.

Didn't know PS3 and Xbox had touch screens.
And there is a Wii U game that does not use the gamepad at all? If so Nintendos idiocy hits a new high.

I know Nintendo don't make all the games, but they have to approve any thrid party games. And here is where the console maker can ask for specific features. Nintendo will want the game to use the specific Wii U features i.e. the gamepad. If the game doesn't use them, then why have the Wii U over a PS3 of 360.

First off they don't have to improve anything as long as people buy it. Next, why would they deny themselves money? That is beyond ridiculous logic and you should know that. And I think it's better for them to be equal with those consoles in game sale than get no sales,, no? This logic makes no sense.
Game like Fifa make little use of the gamepad. They threw a radar on there, helps a little. But otherwise, it's a port and the touchscreen is used for nothing. They did it. What's the difference between that and say NHL?
