I think that Pozzato is the biggest favourite, as he seemed stronger than Boonen. But when they arrive at the Veldorme togetehr, Boonen will finish it off again in the sprint.
The group of candidates for a top 5 is huge: Ballan, Paolini, Bom, Breschel, Degenkolb, Vanmarcke, Vansummeren, Flecha, Gallopin, Chavanel, Terpstra etctera.... Will be exciting to watch, unfortunately I can't follow it live, so have to record it

Boonen only suffered uphill against Pozzato, so i don't think Pozzato will crack Boonen on one of the cobbled sections.

Leukemans won't be starting Sunday. Too bad, was looking forward to him.

I'd fancy Geraint Thomas as an outside shot, but it seems that in an olympic year he'd rather ride on the track.
Instead Goss is my outside shot. He can do Cobbles and is pretty quick, in a race that will be slightly more controlled without Cancellara.
Logical. Olympics is just once every 4 years and as well it's London. It's just once life time opportunity for Geraint. And he already said after London he will focus on road 100%, so expect to see him next year. He should be a great Ronde contender in few years.

Goss is terribly out of shape. He was one of the first riders to drop in Vlaanderen.
Grégory Rast is my dark horse. But I expect Boonen to win. |

Kristoff will win! You heard it first here But seriously, with his form atm and considering how he rode in rvv, then I think he might have a shot at a top 10 if he has a good day form. |

I'm so unhappy to see Paris-Roubaix without Spartacus. Boonen has this one in his hand. |

I think all riders will be watching for Boonen and remember last year strategy by the others teams: all against cancellara, well, roubaix 2012 will be: all against boonen.
For that reason, my bet for sunday is Chavanel.
if I had 5 dollars, I would bet 3 for chavanel, 1 for thor and 1 for pozzato.
Boonen will not win paris roubaix 2012. |

Boonen is nearly unbeatable if he doesn't crash or have a mechanical.

Boonen is in great form. Just goes to show what you can achieve when you grow up and stop trying to impress school girls by going out partying all night and taking cocaine
I think Boonen is that big a favourite that it could work against him.
Literally no-one is going to help Quickstep or Boonen all day.
Obviously he's still the massive favourite but I think that if 3 or 4 of the other favourites gang up on him in the last 20k it could be anyones race.
No doubt that won't happen and the other favourites will simply take him to the velodrome and then sprint for second.

Or they'll try to gang up against him, like you said, but he'll sit on his ass, look at them, and say "after all I've already won RVV, if you don't want to race let the break make it to Roubaix, and we're done, I don't care". Then the other favourites will start working and Boonen will have it in the bag. |

Well, if there's a day when OPQS must put someone in the breakaway, it's tomorrow. That way they could put the pressure on other teams. And even if they don't, I can see some teams helping, like BMC (they like to chase just because).

The awkward moment when you spend twenty minutes looking for a Paris Roubaix stream then realise it is on tomorrow |

This. Will. Be. Amazing!
Man, I'm looking forward to the race. Boonen is the obvious favourite, but I'm surprised by some of his pre-race interviews, where he says he will rely on his sprint, and not attack. That could open for a couple of "sprinters" to make it to the Velodrome together with him, like Boasson Hagen. But I guess riders like Ballan, who really looked great in De Ronde, will put the hammer down. Hope to see the final decision on Le Carrefour de l’Arbre, where I hope all favourites simply try to power away.
Looking so much forward to it! |
