BTW: I was definitely trying to start a conversation that doesn't have to do with war.
So is that a positive or something, will be you banned for some time?

Congrats!
My tests are going to start showing up in the next week. I hate how all the tests some how all end up around the same week, oh well that's college life. Time for the all-nighters.
I was talking to my teachers about this, and its because Teachers all work on the same schedule. A semester, term etc. all start and end at the same time, so they have to finish teaching their curriculum by then. So most teachers probably just divide that time period and come up with a test every 2, 3 or 4 weeks.
@ SN: Obviously
@ luigi: Of course its a good thing. I will try to avoid all bans

Respect, that seems quite hard.
Oh, do you have to know Latin for that or will they teach it?

I have studied it for 6 years now so I should know it a bit
Well, officially you don't have to have some knowledge about it, but in reality they just go over the theory of the past 6 years in the first two lessons. So if you don't know anything about it, you would have to study very hard
I don't know Italian though |

I have my school presentation today, where we gonna meet the new principle and I'm gonna know my schedule for the week. I just hope that the schedule is good, especially with no classes at Friday and Wednesday afternoon. |

Our fantastic French teacher is about to have a baby, so today was our last class together... Our new teacher? An old, 60+ woman was barely able to say bonjour as she entered the classroom... |

I didn't know you studied French in Norway ?
I don't quite understand the point of learning French nowadays, except for countries where it's the first or the official language, of course. All business is done in English. Chinese, Japanese, German or Spanish could make sense, but that's all, basically. French ? It's been ages for we were the first or second most powerful or influential nation in the world. |

Well, isn't is spoken in large parts of Africa too?
And it's one of the most important official languages, at the Olympics they also announced everything in English and in French Well, maybe that's because the IOC is located in Lausanne, but that shouldn't be the only reason |

The Olympics were created by a Frenchman - Coubertin - thats why they announced some stuff in French too

English is obligatory as a second language from first grade. Students get to choose their third language from 8th grade. The three most common are german, spanish and french.
And on a related note: the system is crap. 8th grade is right after students are past their peak language learning years. Out of the 24 persons in my german class who all had german for five years, I don't think a single one of them (including me) can hold anything remotely reminiscent of a conversation in german.

I'm not ruining it, I'm potentially able to do it more good than bad, mind you.

It is. It's the official language of most sub-Saharan countries that were part of the French colonial empire.
But it's only the second or third language of people in those countries. My Congolese mates at the university spoke a regional dialect, then another central African language they could use in many countries, and then French.

In Germany or in my "bundesland" (as every "bundesland" does what they like to do) it's like you have to take at 7th grade french and at the 8th grade which counts as strong as the 3 others: maths, english and german.
You can take things like biology, physics etc. and I was stupid enough to take french as we had it in the 7th grade for everyone and I thought "Just could be good for you"
When I read now the french Cyanide forums I can't decrypt what they are talking there

Where I come from it`s just to have 1 foreign language in the 5th and a 2nd in the 7th. And if you want a 3rd in the 9th.
So I had Latin from 5-12. English from 7-13 and as I am a lazy guy I had no 3rd...which could have been French or Old Greece. Actually I would have liked to take French today... |

. . You are lucky, as a third language I have to study Arabic and I suck at it(:. Anyway I am in the 10th grade and that's the lowest number of hours I studyed since 3rd grade, so I am happy. |

Just got a ticket for the Bayern Munich - Hannover 96 game in November. First time in the Allianz Arena and Hanover fan block of course.
We travel by a fan bus from Hanover to Munich Friday Night, have free beer (and non alcoholic drinks) during the whole journey. Then 3:30 watch the game, afterwards some freetime and a hotel room, then back by bus and free drinks to Hanover on Sunday. Hopefully with lots of celebration after Hanover winning.
Should be a great journey.

What do you think: which nation has the biggest problem with foreign languages?
French? Spanish? Italian? All very proud nations.
Spoiler In an article I read, it turned out its the English. They just don't need to know other languages. Most people can speak English.
