When were they outsiders? After Quintana maybe but that was about it. There were questions about their form but they were seen as serious Top 5 contenders for sure by many.
I expected readers to be informed about cycling on this forum. When I say outsiders I really mean as far as form is concerned. I don't have to feed you words?
After injury their form was questionable. Both did not ride any preparatory races. There was doubt one or both might not finish, especially Contador who had leg injury. Considering other riders Quintana, Purito and Valverde who had steadily built up to this event. Even Horner at that time before he withdrew.
So to I said what I said. |

Fair enough if you thought they were outsiders.

So Mr. "Doesn't have the legs for GC" just finished 7th in the Vuelta, while on antibiotics for a week and in his first real GT lead ever.
huh

don't you mean first real GT lead without crashing after 2 (???) k's. iirc he was supposed to lead in the Giro as well
edit: dear god. Martin and Kelderman are basically the same person
first real GT: finished 7th
huge fan that's on the border of being a fanboy: check
probably others but I'm too shocked to come up with them

Wasn't he also supposed to lead with Hesjedal this time around? Anyhow, I said from the start I believed that Martin was the only one on that squad who was able to perform with those names which he certainly did. He should really work to get a reliable TT though or else he surely will be screwed up Rodriguez-style in the future in the GTs. |

Three winners today:
Aru for the stage
Froome for distancing Valverde
Contador for not loosing much time and saving a lot of energy
Contador one of the winners? He lost 20 seconds to Froome in total and the gap is down to 1:19.In the flat ITT Froome will gain 20-25 seconds and if Conta cracks or Froome goes to full retard mode at Ancares Conta will lose the Vuelta
20-25 seconds... in a 10 KM TT?!
What did I say?Listen the master of the TT's
Yeah with Conta givin no fuck about the TT it was kinda expected |

What sort of conversation is this!!!!!!!!!??????????????????????????????????????????
An outsider in a grand tour is someone who is in with a shot at the top 5 but probably not, and can maybe podium, Contador and Froome were both considered favourites for the win from the start anyway.

"A danish cycling expert" writing about the losers and winners at the Vuelta:
"I had expected Kelderman would be at Aru's level or at the very least at the same level as Warren Barguil"
Kelderman as good as Aru? JesleyH did you become a "danish expert"?
Because this is Dutch logic.
Present:
Tinkoff-Saxo - AG2R - Colombian riders
Past:
Francisco Mancebo - Illes balears - Carlos Sastre - Kelme - Robbie McEwen

I read that as well, but honestly I still had expected at little more. But as good as Aru, who also completely outclassed him in May? No way |

I didn't write the article, but I do know its contents, since I did the 'interview' and then asked my slave-trainee to do the writing
To be fair, the exact quote is "maybe even Fabio Aru". No reason exaggerate |
