Inspired by the pursuit format of nordic sports like Biathlon, I had the idea of something similar for cycling. Say you do the last stage of the Tour de France as a 30km or so individual time trial, but instead of starting in regular intervals from last to first, the GC leader would start first with all other riders following with the exact time differences they have in the GC. So on this hypothetical stage 21, this year Pogacar would start first, Roglic 59 seconds later, Porte 3'30 after Pogacar and so forth. And then the order they cross the line in is the final GC.

Obviously, this is a weird idea that's never going to actually be implemented (which is why it's in this thread), but I still wanted to get some of you thoughts on it Grin I think it could be arguably more exciting than a regular time trial, with tough one on one battles and a better visualisation of the current "virtual" GC. But it would also probably favor riders with a quick finish, who could just try to hang on in the slipstream of better time trialists overtaking them. I don't know, just a thought experiment I guess ^^

You might be interested in looking up La Course 2017 then, as they used this exact format.

Deignan in 2nd sacrificed 45 seconds to ride with teammate Guarnier in 4th, with Longo Borghini in that group too. That means a gap of 1'30 or so behind Van Vleuten. Van Vleuten being Van Vleuten, she won by nearly 2 minutes.

Just dropping in to say hi! It's been so long, unbelievable. I hope everyone's well, especially seeing as how 2020's been treating us so far. Stay positive, everyone Smile
I've been fine. Not as much into cycling anymore, but I follow it from afar. Haven't played cycling manager anymore, either, since I got caught up in reading a lot more.

Stay safe, and see you around Wink

Hi Ian! Nice to hear things are going along just fine for you. Good times reading your stories those were. Always nice to see old faces popping up here Pfft

Nice to see you indeed Ian. Your stories were amazing, I started to lurk around the forum around late 2013-early 2014, and I was reading your stories, A Day In The Life, I think was the one that was going at the time.

I woud like this, especially if it's a mountain pursuit race, like Alpe Cermis at Tour de Ski.

So, from me:
I entered the university entrance exam at 2019, had a good result, then started to study Computer Engineering at Bilkent University with %50 scholarship. But I did not like Ankara and also did not like programming that much so this summer I had a transfer to ITU Electronical and Communication Engineering, using my 2019 University Entrance Exam result. Since the departments are different, I'll be starting from the first year, but I can count some of my subjects. ( ITU is a state university, unlike Bilkent, so I won't be paying any money )

I will be starting to study Electronics and Communication Engineering at Istanbul Technical University ( ITU ) from tomorrow. Wish me luck.
Both places are ( Bilkent Computer Eng. and ITU Electronical and Communication Eng. ) are very good for Turkey's standards. ( both are among some of the best university/department combos in Turkey for engineering )

Nice to hear from you, too, guys Smile I've been well. Still love stories (though I read a lot more instead of writing). But I do have some cool news. This year I published a poetry book! It was pretty exciting ^^

Hey Ian, cool to hear from you and glad to know things are going well for you Smile And very nice about your book! Sounds like a special experience Smile Is that a career path for you or more of a side venture?

Hello PCMDaily folk, not sure if this is the right thread but I didn't want to start a new thread. So, I'm thinking about purchasing a bike this summer...

Well, five months in the making and I finally found something I liked and pulled the trigger. Got it hooked up to the trainer and ready for my first Zwift ride tomorrow morning (too cold already to ride outside). Shoot me a PM if you use Zwift and want to add me as a friend. Hoping to ride a few times a week.

Ready to roll with my Specialized Diverge E5 Comp. Grin

Congrats, that is a sleek piece of art! But you truely are a giant, does the seat extend any further, do we worry the post will break? Smile

Too cold already? North Dakota sucks. Smile Forecasts say there might be one last warm-ish day or two next week, hope you get a chance to take it for a real spin.

It was the first 64cm bike in stock that I could find in five months. It was a struggle. Although, happy I was forced to wait because it only built up the excitement and I'm really pleased with this purchase. The guys at the local bike shop I bought it from were great to work with.

Not much room left on the seat post  I actually think it might be a tad high but the guys at the shop did all the measurements and set it up so I'll trust their judgment for the time being and give it a few weeks before making any changes.

I'm actually back in Michigan now, so the weather is a little warmer than North Dakota. Should be able to get an outdoor ride in this weekend. Smile

I can't recommend highly enough, for people who like watching cycling, to get into riding themselves!

I spy a Wahoo Kickr Core there too? That's what I've got, and it's certainly worth it to have gone straight for a trainer like that, than one of the cheaper wheel-on ones.

I'll certainly be on Zwift a lot over the next few months!

I used to be on Zwift (not as regular but from time to time in the past).

Problem is, that I live for rent and have neighbours below and above my flat. So having a Tacx Blue Motion trainer for my bike was far too loud for indoor.

the_hoyle
Nice little setup - I am back on zwift with the dark nights closing in the UK. Manchester at night is bad enough in a car, let alone on a bike.

Got myself the Tacx flux smart in recent years and not looked back. Love the change of resistance and the workouts are much better with it. Even had group rides with my club when lockdown was at its worst in the UK. Worked well

I'll drop you a PM so we can be zwift friends! Cool

@SN: Yep, decided to go straight to the Wahoo Kicker Core because of the snowy winters here than can last from October to March. Figured it was worth the investment to have a decent trainer to keep me motivated.

@roturn: I'm actually in a similar living situation, but I'm working from home right and can work my own hours. So, I'm thinking if I ride middle of the day on weekdays when everyone is at work then I shouldn't be too much of a noise disturbance. The trainer isn't too loud either.

@the_hoyle: Great I'll add you when I got on today. Smile
