Thanks a lot. Really nice to hear.
Due to lack of time in the last days I couldn`t play any stage. So next report probably today. |

Amgen Tour of California - Stage 2
Squaw Valley - Sacramento
While the first half is a bit hilly and a lot of downhill riding the second half is completely flat. Hopefully Goss or Hunter can show something today, although their fitness isn`t that good here.
Zingle (Quick), Mareš (PSK), Firsanov (Drapac), Quintana (Café), Van Ruitenbeek (BMC), Amorison (Scott) and O'Brien (An Post). All of them lost a bit yesterday and aren`t such a big danger for the overall.
The peloton did a very calm job today and so the advantage for the group was up to 8min very fast.
RadioShack, Garmin and Lampre are doing the pace on the downhill part, it`s still enough time to catch the group again. Löw is hardly working now to give our sprinters a realistic chance.
Back in the valley again the wind turned around and now it was very stormy. Really fast wind was coming from the side and so the group was splitted into several pieces. Except of Kreder and Löw none of our riders did it into the first group. So they really have to work now. Not the best situation for non peaking sprinters today.
Luckily most of our riders, our leader Sanchez, Kreder and the two sprinters Goss and Hunter are back in the first group together with Maaskant as luxury helper today. Due to his classics experience the Dutch is even the fittest in the end and so we will ride for him. Hopefully all the energy he used for his leaders won`t give him a too big disadvantage in the end.
A very close decision. Brown is celebrating after Pozzato brought him into a perfect position. But in the end the photo finish showed that Lorenzetto is the winner. So the Australian was doing a Zabel today. Shit happens...
Maaskant on a good 10th is also showing his class in a very high speed finish.

Wow, I didn't even think that it was possble to happen a Zabel on PCM if not attackers which are reeled in and passed in the final 100 meters (they start to celebrate, but their speed is way to less than the ones sprinting)
I had never seen it at least, when sprints finished in close decisions nobody would celebrate.
Good Top 10 with Maaskant, bad the other sprinters couldn't be there to contest the finish.

Thanks all. And yes, idiot it exactly the right term for him there
Giro d'Italia - Stage 9
Spello - Monte Carpegna
Today it`s the first mountain stage. It`s going over the Monte Penna with 10,5km and 6,8% before the final climb onto the Monte Carpegna with 15,3km and 6,1% in average. So this can already be the first sign of the riders fighting for the podium. Hopefully Martin will be one of them. It`s also interesting to watch the Lampre guys. With 3 potential leaders they must find the best solution. So far Nibali is the one with the best chances.
Great feeling for Lars Boom. After yesterdays great time trial win he is leading the race now. Next to him Bobridge in the U23 jersey. But to be realistic. Would be a surprise if we would keep any jerseys tomorrow.
Ventoso (RadioShack), Huzarski (Farnese), Faiers (Geox), Bertolini (Androni), Brambilla (Ceramica), Valentin (FDJ), Gutiérrez Palacios (Euskaltel), Lund (Leopard) and Wagner (NetApp),
Not the best climbers in this group so it will be very hard for them in the end.
Jack Bobridge is leading the peloton over the Monte Penna. It`s just to show our team in the knowledge of having the leader jersey. Later we won`t be able to do a lot of pace and other teams must replace us in the front row.
So happened on the 2nd mountain sprint. Colnago for Pozzovivo, Lampre for Nibali as Basso is already doing the pace and Quickstep for Scarponi are doing the pace now. The advance is melting now quite fast.
The long climb to the finish is starting now and the group can already see the peloton behind them. Not much longer and they will get caught.
Also the overall leader Boom can`t stay in the first group. Together with Pate he is in the first of many groups behind the favourites now. He will lose more than 6min today and so losing the lead of course.
With 6km to go Scarponi with the first attack. Some riders try to follow: Ricco, Rujano and Pozzovivo. Martin is closing the gap together with Basso. Stetina was the last support for Martin but with this high pace he starts to struggle now.
Unfortunately Martin lost much of his energy closing the gap. So he wasn`t able to stay after more attacks. Now he must try to hold the gap as small as possible. Last year he also had some good days, where he finished with the top3 and some not so good days, where he lost some seconds.
Mauricio Soler is winning a bit surprising. But he loves these mountains. Scarponi and Pozzovivo are following in the same group as also Nibali, Ricco, Rujano and Serpa. So it was a good day for Italians and South Americans. Cunego followed solo with 30s, while Martin leads the next group with 40s including Basso, Brajkovic, Masciarelli and surprisingly a strong Kruijswijk.
Markus Fothen was still quite well today and finished with +1'14 and takes the overall lead after his strong time trial performance. But he will lose lots of time in the next mountain stages probably.

Still a good result with Martin. The most important thing is that he didn't lose so much time.

Thanks all.
Fothen will definitely lose it in the next 1-2 mountain stages. He is 73 in climbing I think.
@Pellizotti: Yes, 40s aren`t that much but actually I hoped to gain time on riders like Serpa and Pozzovivo. Nibali, Scarponi, Ricco are too good I think. |

Well, The Columbia sprint train has 136 pages. I guess it's the biggest here on pcmdaily. Hopefully this one gets up to there
