Androni received the wildcard that should've gone to Gazprom

Agree, Androni is much, much worse than Vini Zabu

Dan Martin must be serious about going to the Giro this year. He's skipping one of his last chances to win Fleche Wallonne in favor of Trentino.

I just read that Tom Dumoulin is taking a break from cycling. Oh jeez. This guy is really the biggest wuzz around. VDP and WVA has thousand time more pressure, or literally any French with an ounce of climbing talent. Of course if it is a mental health thing or so, this would come first and then cycling has to take the backseat. But Major Tom is just all talks and as soon as the legs dont show up he quits. Kittel and Schleck were the same.

Would it hurt to preface your comment with the possibility of it being mental health related, and then, covering the serious implications if it was, to phrase your argument in a less condescending way?

As far as I can tell its about him facing high expectations, which is pretty rich given his past comments. He makes this stuff way too public and constantly pushes himself into the spotlight and then uses this as explanation to take a break.

Good thing we all know that public and private personas align 100% and we can therefore always tell when someone's just making stuff up to have an excuse Rolling Eyes

Lingering back issues mean no Giro for Pinot.

This might be it for him.

Groenewegen will come back to racing at the Giro, unlike it was previously scheduled. Jumbo announced their roster today.

Probably forced move after what happened to Dumoulin, they couldn't go to a GT with just George Bennett (sorry Jandal) and keep their sponsors happy.

I don't think it's a good move for him because he'll get a lot more press attention compared to the Tour of Hungary. Any weird move in the sprint will be looked at.

Also feeling rather sad for David Dekker, who will likely be demoted to leadout despite a very good season so far.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

I think Dekker will be more of an extraordinary leadout than a great sprinter looking at what he does tbh. Great to see Dylan back in action!

McNulty will skip the Giro but will ride TdF as domestique....I dislike it Sad

If only the AToC still existed, it would have been nice to see him win it.

yes that was a race where he would have done well with the usual long TT

Does anyone know who is the youngest rider to ever start a Grand Tour? Savio is seriously considering breaking a record since Andrii Ponomar (who turns 19 in September) is set to be at the start of the race. Shock

1904 Camille Fily - 17yrs 1month 19days

Can't guarantee he's the youngest, but certainly the youngest that i know of.

Cheers! Could imagine someone from that era.

But in terms of modern cycling, at least this century, can’t recall anyone younger than him. Just van Poppel in TdF 2013 when he was 19, I think.

If the PCS statistics are correct, within the last 30 years of GTs, Andrii Ponomar would be the youngest indeed.

Closest are couple of riders only as it`s 3 riders only that started a GT being under 20, which was Van Poppel in 2013, Rovny in 2007 and Chozas in 1980.

And a few such as Felipe Marztinez in 2016, who was just turning 20 when starting the Giro.

I don't know it's just the nostalgia or the fact that I'm older now and these guys are younger than me, but I'm not too keen on the amount of super young guys riding and competing in GT's right now. I miss the days when you had to be like 22 to get a GT spot and like 24 or 25 to reasonably expect to compete.
