Another Unorthodox Injury!
It's not always happy news for the Island Runners. Another injury to report.
Note to self, always pay attention to where you are walking. Quashie is now the punchline of the jokes instead of dishing them out as he dislocated his elbow by tripping over a stationary bike while walking backwards to talk with a teammate.
A stupid injury that's going to cost him over a month to get back to full health.
Also, Fernando Infanta is about 90-95% healthy now and has resumed training. His medical costs after insurance was $350 for his shoulder blade micro-fracture.
Hopefully the injuries don't get out of control or it could become very costly.

Seeing so many injuries coming on a regular basis it will be important for your first race to come soon, otherwise you won't have enough fit riders left |

CT License, Updated Budget and First Pro Race!
Things have been quite slow this month, but a lot of stuff has been happening in the background. First, I have been reading the UCI handbook religiously trying to make sure we are doing everything to code.
So far so good, I think. The UCI hasn't been on our case yet and now they have approved our application for a CT License. It's a heft $9,500 yearly fee in registration costs, but with over half the season gone already we got a discount to be able to race in CT races here at the end of the 2016 season for just $3,500.
After securing the license I went on spam emailing spree asking small continental races if they had any vacancies available for our team. I received a lot of no's, but eventually three races said they had an opening for us.
Sadly, due to travel costs, we have a decision to make.
But, before that, for reference here is an updated budget:
| Revenue | Expenses | Previous Amount | $3,940 | | Bolt Donation | $5,000 | | Puma Sponsorship | $2,500 | | Infanta's Injury | | $350 | CT License | | $3,500 |
Total Remaining: $7,590
Here are our two options to race in our first professional race.
Trip #1: Northern Europe | Cost: $3,250
August 23-27, One Race and Five Race Days.
Bio: Baltic Chain Tour was established to commemorate Baltic Way. Although the first international cycling race in the Baltics was held in 1889 from Riga (Latvia) to Tallinn (Estonia), the first Baltic Tour was held in 1955. (via Wikipedia)
Trip #2: Southern Europe | Cost: $3,250
September 9-11, Two Races and Four Race Days.
East Bohemia Tour
Bio: The East Bohemia Tour is a staged cycling race held annually in the Olomouc region in the Czech Republic. It was created in 2015 and is part of the UCI Europe Tour in category 2.2. (via Wikipedia)
Chrono Champenois
Bio: The Chrono Champenois is an European individual time trial bicycle race held in France. The race has been organised as a 1.2 event since 1989 for women's and since 1998 there is also a men's race which is part of the UCI Europe Tour. (via Wikipedia)
The option with the most votes in the next 12 hours will be chosen.

I think we should go for both as that is what we are here for and the bolt money should be helpful in that regard. It would then be possible to get a high number of the squad out on the road making them hungry for next season. Also beggars cannot be choosers we will not get many more chances.

Well compared to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania they are. To be honest, I didn't really know what else to call it.

Rough Night Out on the Town!
The tickets have been booked, we are taking two separate teams to Europe in September. One group will be going to the Czech Republic and the other to France.
But, that's a ways away. The struggle now is keeping everyone focused, which is proving to be more and more difficult when located on a tropical island.
Last night, I caught Vincent Haly taking shots with youngster Emeterio Amory at a local bar that apparently doesn't check for ID's.
It's great to see teammates bonding, just not like this! Amory is 14 years old!
What should we do? The rest of the team will be taking notice in how we handle this situation. Give out a warning, make them do extra hard training sessions or lay down the hammer and prevent them from riding the races in September?
The decision with the most votes in the next 12 hours is what we will do.
Note: All votes will be counted, not just members.

Heading Home, National Championships Prep!
For a team that struggles with the motivation to train, the discipline technique of making Vincent Haly and Emeterio Amory take on a more demanding training session was taken with a lot of criticism.
While the team certainly took notice, Haly and Amory and the rest of the team are rather upset and feel the punishment was too harsh. Under-aged drinking happens all the time on the islands and it's something our young guns are accustomed to.
They don't understand what the big deal is. I explained the situation to the best of my abilities, but changing a culture is going to take a little more than a team talk.
Hopefully the hard training session at least makes them think twice about doing it, especially as all cyclists will be traveling back home for the first time this weekend.
Island Runners who will be competing for National Championships:
Cuba: Emeterio Amory, Lyron Rollins and Bastian Rollins.
Jamaica: Oneil Samuels, Blake Ronda, Fernando Infanta and August Charvis.
Saint Lucia: Henry Manuel
Over time we hope to see more island nations hold their own NCs. Those that don't have nationals to go home for are getting time to catch up with their families.
