Pleased to see my former rider Kennaugh taking a GT win. Nice for the wins to be shared around so would like to see more luck for Guerao, Goss and Roelandts too.
Stage 9 could be messy. Fortunately Schleck is close enough to Madrazo on the hills, and wearing the maglia rosa should ensure he tracks the moves. Ricco could be dangerous if he can team up with Cunego. Of course, that is if this one sees any gaps. For Suaza's sake, it would be nice if it does not!

Huge effort by Danny to follow the Festina train there, but I guess he had no power left afterwards.

Nice to see Brajko trying on the mt stage earlier, also a solid effort from Anton
Getting closer to that 10th spot in GC day by day!

Ulanowski again looking decent, one day he might actually win a stage on this level.
Now, breakaways please with Topchanyuk and Prevar.

Good try from Claeys and a great bonus getting the KoM-jersey. Hopefully he goes in the breakaway on the next stage as well and keep it for a bit longer. Surprised we sent anyone in the break when Denifl is 4th, might be that only the top 3 dosen't send riders in the break?
Good win for Orange this, every point counts in the relegation battle

Congrtulations, CrueTrue! That was very impressive from Kennaugh, starting that far behind. Tzortzakis is very consistent due to his train, meaning if Ricco can keep on doing what he started yesterday in the mountains, it's going to be a huge points haul for Festina.
Another safe day for Guldhammer, which is good. Very interested in how the next hilly stage plays out. It looks like it could potentially create gaps with many steep walls and long distance, meaning he should be able to confirm his intentions of a top 10, if the AI decides it's a stage to create gaps on.
Thanks for the report, roturn, with both the video and pictures/text covering Kennaugh's sprint from far behind very well. |

Another great stage. I really can't be unhappy about not winning the sprints as long as the train works this great, and Tzortzakis gives it his all...
2nd place is great, and still in the pointsjersey is also amazing. Having just 3 more stages where we can pick up points for Tzortzakis we really need to deliver everytime - I fear that he might drop out of the race on stage 12 though. Fingers are crossed for a good Ricco showing on the hills (where he did horrible so far this season), and another great sprint from Tzortzakis to make it a perfect first half of the race.

Wow, a short vacation and boem; 8 race reports of the Giro, good stuff roturn! Too bad I missed the pre-race fun, we don't expect much from this Giro, hoping for maybe a KoM and/or stage victories. Lot of reading up to do now.

My feeling on the flat stages remains unchanged, still none of my riders making the break on them. Still, the reporting is so good that it's a bit more bearable As for the first mountain stage, Pinot finished in the group I would expect him in and it was good to see him attack, just a slight worry that Goos and Suaza were able to overachieve like that as it makes getting a top 10 a bit harder - and keeps him out of the U25 lead. |

Well, fuck.
Been whining for a few days and instead of improving, this Giro becomes worse every day. Really poor showing from Pozzovivo. You guys really don't know, how to celebrate my 5th anniversary on Daily: it started with Roubaix and now this

Topchanyuk doing waht's expected of him, hoping he'll do it in the later, more mountainous stages as well, should have better chances there, perhaps even challenging for the KoM.
Prevar decent as ever, our best GC rider in fact as Krasnoperov even failed to stay with second, or third, tier sprinter Polivoda . 6th in the U25 is really good for him in a race like this, and if he can stay there more or less I'd be very happy

Brajko
What a ride, was really worried that he might got injured by that fall, but apparently not!
So, turns out I was right, he can do good on hilly stages afterall, not like that letdown in catalynia.
Congrats to beagle with stage win after that poor start on the sprint stages.

What a ride from Ricco, and interesting to see Schleck struggling. This will definitely make the next mountain stages very entertaining.

Nothing state by skidpants stupid move bringing him here really. Ginanni at least flying the punch mans flag very well.
Nice to see Ricco in pink, gives variety to madrazo vs Schleck 'narrative'.

Indeed, as Smowz says the gap for Ricco is good for the race. It shouldn't be enough in the long run, unless the other hill stages end up producing similar gaps. Not ideal to lose ground on Madrazo, clearly not a great day for Andy. On reflection, shows that he made a waste of the first Mountain stage and really needs to take the initiative more.
Cool to see Ginanni finally deliver on the big stage. Disappointing for Good Energy that Ponzi was so poor.

Vesely still doing really nicely, another solid 5th place in a sprint is a really good result especially in comparision with results of a rider like Roelandts.
But wow, what a stage 9! Ricco crushing all his GC rivals and taking the leader's jersey by quite a huge margin! This Giro is absolutely amazing for SotD so far, congrats. König thankfully to a nice breakaway attempt goes straight to KoM jersey and goes much higher in provisional GC, superb stage by him. Velits did a little bit better than expected, to finish together with Cunego on a hilly stage is almost always a great result, really happy with this stage. 5th place in GC is almost a miracle after that first bad mountain stage. But could alway be worse - not really the best stage for Pozzovivo, clearly had a really bad day.
The WTF thing for me is why Vesely did not save himself for the next stage, really interesting attack by him. Also congrats to beagle, this race is finally getting better for Pokerboys.

Very happy to see Sisira in the break - shame he so narrowly missed out on the KoM lead. Pinot did pretty well also, not losing too much time and being amongst the leading contenders for the lower top 10. Sets up nicely for the GC battle to begin with Ricco winning. |
