What? If this is true, they've gone crazy. Basso is far from the climber he was, and even if he was, this route doesn't really suit him at all. |

Giro "suited" him and we saw what he was able to do.

That can't be true. |

Liquigas are idiots. Not only has Basso already ridden the Giro this year which 9/10 times means a terrible Tour, but he showed there that he is not a Top climber anymore, and even in past Giro's Nibali looked better but worked for Basso!
And even more, is that I think this is the perfect route for Nibali and a Top 3 would have been very likely, with so many descents to end off stages.
I honestly hope Basso has a terrible mechanical and loses minutes so that Liguigas are forced to use Nibali as leader. No wonder he's leaving....

Where anyway does that information come from? Just found this on Google f.e.:
“We’re aiming for the top of the general classification and will support Vincenzo all the way to the last stage, plus we’ll strive to put Peter in the best possible position to win at least one stage,” Zanatta explained.
[...]
“Finally, Basso’s role will be essential for Nibali in the tougher stages and for managing the more intense phases of the race,” said Zanatta. “His experience and charisma will be fundamental for helping the team when the pressure hots up.”

Id prefer it if they worked for Nibali, but just to put across the opposite point of view:
- Why should Liquigas work for Nibali if they know he is leaving? With the stupid UCI system, all of his WT points transfers with him, so Liquigas are better off working for riders who are staying.
- What if the reason Basso was not great in the Giro was that he knew all along that he would be peaking for the Tour?

Official page
...As everyone knows Vincenzo Nibali, Peter Sagan and Ivan Basso have been chosen to lead the Liquigas-Cannondale team. The “Shark” is targeting the general classification, the Slovakian champion is hunting down stage wins and our man from Varese has the role of “director”...
Nibali is the leader for GC, Sagan will try to win stages and Basso will be the director... but no the main leader. |

Good points, SN. The UCI Scoring System is indeed stupid.

Good points mate! That really does make you consider that thats why Basso could be the leader for Liquigas. and by the way thats a stupid rule! If you earn points with a team, the points should stay with the team!!

Maybe fcancellara read that Basso will be the road captain and thought that meant leader..

Think you missread it because the same stands on Liquigas official site. Nibali goes for a great GC, Sagan goes for stage wins and Basso is the director, he will nearly be road captain especially in the mountains. |

Update: Gustav Erik Larsson now marked as swedish time trial champion.
For sure, Nibali will be the leader for GC for Liquigas. Basso will be the captain, but not the main leader. |

Ah, good. Nibali is a much better choice. It's a good thing he can use Basso's experience, though. |

Hinault will replace Mondory because of a knee injury. Who will be their sprinter now?

Casper if he's in (I assume he is, haven't checked, tbh).
Hinault is more the kind of guy to win in a breakaway, or a smaller peloton in a more random field than the TDF's. |
