Willy Wouters' Press Conference
Hi everyone,
Willy here. I've been waiting for a while now to tell you, but I couldn't because of negotiations with the team's staff. I'll be talking to the press in about an hour, but I wanted you guys to be the first to hear. After all, I believe my greatest fans are all here on this blog!
There's no easy way of saying this, so here it goes, the quick pain.
My (recent) developments in time trialing and my hard training of jogging this winter got me thinking, and I decided to try a career in Triathlon. I've had long discussions with the management about my current contract, and we've come to a conclusion, I won't bore you with details.
It comes down to this: Normally I won't be racing any more (high profile) races anymore for season 2014. I will concentrate on training my swimming capacities (my weakest point) and enter a number of amateur races. Maybe I'll ride some low profile cycling races, but I don't know yet. Team Argos has given me a little over a year (unpaid) to try and do this. Next year I will have to decide whether to break contract or return to the team to finish my contract. A year isn't too much, but my running-skills have always been highly developed so it's just a year to test out whether I can mix them and throw in swimming, too.
So this means it's goodbye for now. I'll definitely keep you updated about my career, if you'd like! It's just something I have to do now, or else I will always regret never giving it a go. Triathlon has always been a big dream of mine. I hope you all understand. Hopefully until later.
- Willy Wouters -

Great, great stage-race win for Willy! He really deserved it and 'slaughtered' the opposition.
Also, I just noticed that he also took the KoM jersey. And he's also getting great in prologues, 5th isn't bad.
I'm going to prepare myself for the shocking news now. Because I know that if you say shocking news, then it really is shocking news
Edit: Read it. That's quite shocking indeed
Erik returns now?
Anyway, good luck Willy!

Why do you always make people leave the story. And bring Eric back for the year. A secret weapon that the team haven't been using but he is on the teams list. That would be absolutely awesome
Oh and GREAT sage race win!!!

Jesleyh - Thanks a lot No, nobody is returning For the moment it'll be just Stijn.
Miguel98 - Thanks!
Jakstar22 - Who said anything about Eric? I have my reasons, but willy's not left the story. Not yet anyway, for now he's pursuing a different career, but he still has a contract until October 2015! |

Well he's not dead.
Fully expecting a doping allegation to fly now as well
WAIT i figured out why he's leaving! He actually got 85 in all stats
But seriously, well written as always, and hope this isn't a sign of diminishing motivation

Twist! I'm not sure what you're going to make of it, it will surely be interesting. Oh, and good result at T-A!

TheManxMissile - He surely isn't 85 Wait a minute, a kind word from you, thanks
It's not really a sign of diminishing motivation, but more a precaution. I'm kind of tired off GCs and mountain stages (on PCM), so I want to see if Stijn alone can carry the story. If he can't, or if I decide it's better with two, I can bring him back easily with this story
Mordekaiser - Well, that might be true
cunego59 - I was always wondering if Stijn Van Gent could carry this story on his own. I guess we'll find out now. Nothing irreversible has been done anyway Thanks!
sutty68 - Thanks! Though you probably missed the post on the next page |

Interesting... I think it's very clever the way you've done it, so you can bring him back if/when you like

sutty68 - It was just on the other page thanks!
krisa - Sure do!
Stromeon - Thanks, it's better than dying
At this milestone of this story, I'll give people a chance to catch up decently. So the next race, Milano - San Remo, is for much later this evening, or maybe even for tomorrow.

Hi everyone,
So how about that, Willy going for the Iron Man in triathlon. Obviously, I wish him all the best. It's a bit sad, though. I'm still living here in the Netherlands, but he moved away now. So I guess you'll all just have to do with me for the moment. At the one hand, I wish him the best of luck in triathlon, but on the other hand, I'd really wish he'd come back soon. I guess only time can tell.
For the moment, I've changed the blog's title, with permission of Willy. As long as I'm the only blogger, it might as well be a little more personal, right? So as of today, the blog will be called: Stijn Van Gent - A Flandrien's Journal. Don't worry, besides Willy leaving, nothing much will change. It'll be just about me and my quest to become as good a rider as I can: a team leader, a sprinter, a Flandrien.
Next up is Milano - San Remo. Now that Willy gave his forfeit, the team's tactics have slightly changed. Given my current form, we will put 75% on my sprint. Other strong riders will get a chance at breaking away, but mostly the pressure is on me. Wish me luck!
We... I mean, I will see you there,
Stijn

Yeah, and Michael Jordan tried baseball.
Willy will realize that it is cycling that is his calling.

Why do you do that?? He is a goat, a zombie and best of all related to Daggen (don't show him this, he's getting cocky if he sees it) But I hope Stijn will win Milan - San Remo!

Bah, dunno why you did it, but the two rider story was something that made this more special then the others
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

baseballlover312 - Perhaps, we'll see
rogvi97 - Winning San Remo would be very unexpectedly, but it would be amazing!!
Ollfardh - Sorry you feel that way. But in the end, no offense, it's my story, so it's my way it's got to go. Hope you'll still follow, though.
For those still interested in the story (), I will do Milano - San Remo now! Expect a report later this evening (if all goes well)
