Deinze - Wevelgem

Except of one flat pavement section the first half of the race is quite easy. At least if there wouldn`t be such a fast wind here. So the riders have to be concentrated from the very beginning to avoid crashes.
Then the riders are riding over some hills and a hard cobbled climb. This will happen twice before a long flat finish.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/GW-2.jpg
A bigger group around weak cobbled riders with an early escape. Moerenhout (Rabobank) and Bouet (Ag2r) might be the most known.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/GW-3.jpg
Especially Quickstep is doing the pace. The peloton just enters the first cobbled climb with 4min back. Several riders start to struggle now.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/GW-4.jpg
As nothing happened in between we directly jump to the 2nd climb of the same hill. The group just got caught there what makes the situation very hard to follow.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/GW-5.jpg
And so it happened that some riders created a gap of 1min. Again it was Leopard, which initiated this acceleration. Cancellara, Breschel, Boonen, Wynants, Flecha, Hagen and Ballan. Not really a group you want to have in front if none of your riders is there. ;(
All our riders, especially Vansummeren had a perfect position but none of them was able to jump to them.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/GW-6.jpg
Vansummeren and Maaskant are doing a high pace now while Haussler is waiting for a possible sprint finish. This is definitely the worst case now for our team and no other team like Astana, RadioShack, HTC, Liquigas or Cofidis is helping us.
The other option was to let them ride and sprint for the 7th. But actually I wanted more than this, so I had to try everything.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/GW-7.jpg
Slowly the gap becomes smaller again. Therefore also Haussler is helping out now. It wasn`t a big difference if he is staying in the group or helping. The pulse was nearly the same. Hopefully one of them is still able to fight for a good result if we can catch the group.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/GW-8.jpg
With 4km the groups are almost together now and several riders are attacking.
Shame on all these teams that didn`t helped on the last 25km but now use my work to get rid of me ;(
Pozzato, Eisel, Ista, Rosseler and Devolder are some of them as also Flecha of the first group.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/GW-9.jpg
Bernhard Eisel wins the 2012 Gent Wevelgem a bit surprising. HE wasn`t the biggest favourite but he had the right form and the best tactic obviously.
Flecha and Devolder are following next, while our Garmin riders couldn`t even finished in the top20.
That is really disappointing for us. Although none of our riders had a good daily form (-1, -1, 0) this is not an excuse. Once more I wasn`t concentrated enough on the last climb to get the right group.
Definitely not the best cobbled manager Wink

+1 Not the bes cobbled season for you so far, but win it P-R or RvV would compensate all the bad moments you had. Good luck Smile

Thanks. RVV or PR would be much better indeed. But also much harder I think.

The "KBC Driedaagse van De Panne-Koksijde" is a 2.HC race with 3 normal stages and one short timetrial. It`s normally held one week ahead of the Ronde Van Vlaanderen and with some cobbled sections and many hills a perfect preparation. It was first held in 1977 and since then most times it was dominated by Belgiums or sometimes by Netherlands.
Record winner with 5 times is Eric Vanderaerden (BEL).

This is one of the strongest teams, we could send on cobbled races. So we hope for some nice results.
Boom will lead the team as he is the best time trialist. But also Maaskant, Haussler and Vansummeren are hoping for good results.

KBC Driedaagse van De Panne-Koksijde - Stage 1
Middelkerke - Oudenaarde
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/DP-1-1.jpg
The first stage is already the hardest. It`s the most similar to the RVV and the only one with cobbles. We will try to avoid losing time with Lars Boom today.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/DP-1-2.jpg
20 riders in the break of the day. Many more than expected. With Sentjens, Hammond and Coenen there are also some average cobbled riders there. So this group could become dangerous.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/DP-1-3.jpg
Dao and Fischer doing the pace and hold the gap under 5min. Hopefully other teams will help us quite fast.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/DP-1-4.jpg
After the first pavements the group starts to split into 3 groups. They have still a good chance to win this stage as no other teams are helping us so far.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/DP-1-5.jpg
With 30km and 4min gap Tom Boonen attacks. We decided to follow with Maaskant. But both were caught soon by Leopard.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/DP-1-6.jpg
10km later it was again Boonen and this time Cancellara followed. Also Maaskant was there again. He is riding really strong today.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/DP-1-7.jpg
The 3 were caught again and with 10km to go again Boonen and Cance with an attack. This time Pozzato, Nuyens, Haussler and Boom try to follow.

The group will fight for the win. Diego Ulissi attacked with 4km to go and has a small gap.
All favourites are together again in the big pack with a bit under 2min to the group.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/DP-1-8.jpg
Ulissi with the stage win. He will also take the overall lead. Sentjens, Hammond and Coenen on the next places.
The peloton around all favourites arrived with +1'20. This will be a very close decision now. Can the strong time trialists gain that much time on them?

Just did some catch up, you posting too fast Pfft
Great result with Boom in Catalunya, it was a fun race especially when Rojas' break won by 15 min and he got the leader jersey Grin
G-W wasn't the best race for Garmin, shame on the teams that didn't cooperate.. still strong performance by Garmin riders bringing a strong lead group back alone. Was hoping for Van Summeren to join the records lists but he'll still have chances Wink

As for KBC, pretty big breakaway, 20 riders Shock Proved to be too strong. Will be difficult for the favorites (read: Cancellara xD) to take 1'20 on them. How long is the TT? Hopefully Van Summeren can join the Top 10 overall, or maybe even Top 5.

Ps.: Diego Ulissi has found himself in some good breakaways recently, huh? xD

It`s obviously my bad period again. Last year no wins in April/May. This yearit starts already in March ;( So it will end earlier hopefully.

yeah i really hope some great results will follow and i'm a big big big fan of this story. Probably the best i've ever readed.
Could you please post a picture with Juraj Sagan stats? Thanks

Thanks a lot. Really nice to hear. Hopefully you have some more to celebrate in the next races. Although top10 and podiums aren`t that bad.

Juraj has developed a little bit but definitely not Peter Sagan 2.0.

+6 Wildcards for

Androni
Ceramica
Colnago
Geox
NetApp
Skil-Shimano

It will be interesting to see the squads of the CT teams. Big names in these teams. Quite sure that Colnago`s Mollema and/or Pozzovivo will challenge the PT stars again like in 2011.
Also V.Efimkin for Androni and F.Masciarelli for Ceramica should be in their team squads.
With Eibegger, Merino, Moreno and Valls Team Geox hase several top 20 guys. But probably not a single one for the top10.
But the biggest name of these teams is definitely Riccardo Ricco for Skil-Shimano, 2nd in 2010 and not participating in 2011. He would definitely be a podium candidate.
Team NetApp without really chances in the overall. Just in the sprints they could have good options.

So my guess were right with these 6 teams.
Saxobank, Vacansoleil, Amore Vita and Cafe e Colombia with no real chances for the wild cards.

KBC Driedaagse van De Panne-Koksijde - Stage 2 + 3

Zottegem - Sint Idesbald
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/DP-2-1.jpg
The 2nd stage is pretty flat. Several great sprinters here but Haussler will get all possible support to do well here.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/DP-2-2.jpg
Many riders in todays break. Danielson and Sivtsov (HTC) might be the most known. No Garmin rider in there as we don`t expect to have big chances against all the sprinter teams. So we will ride just for Haussler.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/DP-2-3.jpg
Almost the whole team is doing the sprint train for Haussler. Felline-Vansummeren-Maaskant-Boom-Haussler-Dao. Hopefully this will work out.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/DP-2-4.jpg
Thor Hushovd with a dominant win here. Haussler on the 2nd, Maaskant (5.) and Boom (6.) took care for a good team result.

De Panne - De Panne
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/DP-3-1.jpg
Another very flat and quite short stage. Wind speeds up to 65km/h and heavy rain will make this stage very unpredictable.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/DP-3-2.jpg
Just two riders in the break. Polazzi (Verandas) and Vanlandschoot (An Post). None of them is really dangerous in the overall.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/DP-3-3.jpg
Very early Fischer and Dao start with a high pace. We hope to split the group due to the wind.

Later also Van Der Velde, Felline, Vansummeren and also Maaskant are doing a high pace. Haussler and Boom start to exhaust a bit but at least the peloton splits now.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/DP-3-4.jpg
Geslin and Sabatini started the sprint very early and surprised all other sprinters. Haussler with another good result as 3rd was a bit disappointed as he was the fastest in the end and could have won probably.
Therefore several good time trialists and other riders lost more than a minute today.

Most important for our riders are: Grivko, Hoste, Langeveld, Ballan, Pozzato, Rasmussen, Terpstra, Van Emden, Gusev and Lancaster.
The biggest favourites like Cancellara, Boonen or Hushovd are still in the first big group as also the leaders Ulissi, Sentjens and Hammond.

KBC Driedaagse van De Panne-Koksijde - Stage 4
De Panne - De Panne
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/DP-4-1.jpg
The final and deciding stage is a short time trial. So the prologue skills are very important. Next to all the time trial specialists also riders like Boonen or Hushovd might do well today.
It will be hard to beat the first 3 riders, where Sentjens is the top favourite for the overall after this stage. But with a bit luck we hope for great result with Boom as he is one of the best time trialists here.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/DP-4-2.jpg
HE is also the first rider in the report. All earlier specialists were already more than 2min back. Posthuma with the best times so far ahead of Langeveld and Rabon.
But Boom beats him by 5s. This was a good ride by the World Champion.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/DP-4-3.jpg
But his joy didn`t last very long. Cancellara beats his time easily. What a ride by him. 26s faster than him!!!

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/DP-4-4.jpg
Also Boonen is faster than Boom. Of course he has lots of fans here and is very motivated.
But he is also 12s behind the Suisse.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/DP-4-5.jpg
Hushovd showed his great form with a stage win. A good 5th for him in the actual result. Not bad.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/03%20March/DP-4-6.jpg
As expected Sentjens won`t be challenging the best but he beats Hammond and Ulissi and wins the overall ahead of Ulissi and Cancellara, who overtook Hammond today. Boom as (7.), Haussler (8.), Maaskant (12.) and Vansummeren (15.) with some solid performances.
Hopefully they have a bit more luck in the Ronde Van Vlaanderen, which will be our next race.

Great performance by Roy Sentjens, if not that break your team would have done so much better, but still god result. Hope you will have more luck in Ronde Smile
