First of all, I want to thank you for the regular and entertaining reports. Also, thank you very much for all the congratulations.
And now for the race itself. Halfway through the most important race of the season (at least as far as the Polar team is concerned), the situation is very, very promising thanks to the incredible performances of E. Bernal in the 2nd mountain stage and especially in the subsequent time trial. However, there is still a long way to go, there are several potentially difficult stages ahead of us to control, where literally anything can happen. I am afraid that Kudus in particular, but also Pogačar, McNulty, Morton and other elite climbers are far from having said the last word. The super-tough third week will decide everything!

Thank you for the great reporting throughout the weekend, kandesbunzler.
Aular not doing too well. He's behind all of the simimar and clearly weaker climbers, with quite some difference to some of them already. He'll need to step up his game to get the top-10 position he should be very much able of attaining.
Halvorsen did decent in the sprint again, he should be worth around 2.5m now when it comes to selling him. Although I obviously wouldn't mind selling him for a bit less because I'm such a good guy who enjoys former riders doing amazing at other teams.

Despite of Kinoshita getting 6th, this was a bad stage for us. Giannoutsos showed weakness, Vine lost significant time, Karatsivis lost his 2nd place in U25 and the break went to win, with a couple of GC rivals in there.
Time to up the game guys!

Very unfortunate that we don't join breaks besides Holm Jorgensen on the flats. Need some more points from stages.
Thanks for the report!

Podium finishes don’t come easy for Groenewegen here.
For the hilly stage, it would have been great to be part of the move, but no surprise to not be there seeing our limited interest earlier in the race. Congratulations to those making it count, and also tanking full advantage of the calm peloton.
Thank you for the reports, kb! Definitely enjoyable reads |

Two GT stage wins for Barguil would have been damn nice but seeing him in the KoM jersey makes up for it, not a lot of complains about my GT debut so far!

I would really like to see some break participation by Evonik here if we cannot get Ovsya into sprinting positions. Especially for this sort of hilly transition stage we have so many candidates who could do well from a break that it is a crime that we dont even try. We cannot rely solely on Foss defending his GC position...

So many stages waster for that mountain jersey, let's hope we see Van Gils or Van Poucke in the breakaway tomorrow.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Not sure how happy I am for Carthy to be wasting his energy on attacks during transition stages. He's gonna need all the energy he can save for the third week given that he's outside the top 10, and even if the move was successful, it wouldn't have given a stage or meaningful time. We'll try not to worry about that and just be satisfied with a top 10 stage placing for now, I suppose.

Ugh, sprints have not been fun to follow this season.
Stüssi well placed is good, still won’t know the value of that until the final week. Definitely some scary riders between 10th-20th that might get a lot of freedom.
Thank you very much for the report!

Morton sucks which hurts bad but at least Kemboi is grabbing some success in his first shot of leadership this year, still some opportunities for both to succeed in the future but who knows what will happen?

I guess Giannoutsos is now far enough back to actually be able to join attacks - or atleast allow Jay Vine to do so.
Not really a great feature that so many strong riders are allowed back into the top 10 contention. Seems impossible to control what happens after the top 5. Just have to cross our fingers that Giannoutsos is somehow lucky to do something useful.

Another strong breakaway! If this means Champoussin will be aggressive for the KoM jersey, stage wins and a late top 10 GC, Rabobank will go on and win the title
Also a massive, massive stage for Jura, with Darbellay making this a brilliant Giro for them. Congratulations! |

Good signs from Champoussin, but he will need to be as active in the harder mountain stages if we are to make an impact here.

Good try I guess, but we can't convert a few 2nd places to wins yes.

Yeah, could have been a nice Arndt stage. Would be curious if we just didnt bother with the stage again or if we tried to chase the break down but lacked firepower. That would be at least understandable

Fuck that’s so stupid. Stüssi in the top-10 and decides to just casually lose 10 minutes and finish in a group behind Gaviria on a stage like this I think they’re just trying to out do each other now
Congrats Fab, good Giro so far for Darbellay and team. Thanks for the report kb!

Nothing happening for us except falling behind more breakaway guys. Guess we'll need to figure out how to make an impact in the final week, or end up with nothing.

I can at least help with what happens here seen this a few times, because Stussi isn't a "top" favourite. He won't be positioned well and gets caught in spilts, those assigned to team mate him in the pre-race selection will then chase to get back on, clearly caught badly here.
Gaviria will be assigned to a sprinter role and wouldn't be used to help Stussi and must have been better positioned when the spilt occured so ends up in front on the road riding for himself
don't particularly like the way the game assigns leaders to ride at particular parts of the bunch, depending on its perceived favourites status this year as ends up with situations like this |

@jt: oh yeah I know, it was my turn for the random stroke of bad luck. Just sucks because he was doing so well beforehand (and Gaviria’s general sucking), but alas there’s another week to turn it around. Or hang out in the grupetto. Maybe we could start awarding points for the laterne rogue?
