And the difference is not far to Tour Down Under inviting UniSA

Doesn't UniSA more or less ride as a form of national team though? Those have always been allowed in the WT.

Yeah, UniSA is basically a national team that consists of young Aussie riders without a contract and a couple of guys whose team's didn't get invited. Inviting the US continental teams sounds like the best idea, but even if they do get wildcards the level of competition will likely be higher than in previous years, so they probably won't get as much exposure and success as before anyway.

It isn't basically a national team, it's straight up the Australian national team and has been since the race went WT. It never was a "real" team

Look, maybe someone already said what I'm bout to say, but I'm too lazy to read 4 pages since this WT race schedule topic started, especially when the words Ottoman Empire caught my eye.

This decision of having more WT races is actually horrible, it's just lessens the prestige of a WT race even more and makes already the busy schedule of a WT team even more busy, participating in many races that they're not interested.

Spoiler
So, here's my schedule(like it even matters):

February (yes TDU being a WT race as a first race in whole calendar makes no sense): Omloop

March: Strade Bianchi, P-N, T-A, MSR, E3, G-W. Dwars makes perfect sense as a 1.HC race as it's just too close to MSR. But the biggest thing is that Catalunya should be switched with Burgos, while Burgos staying 2.hc, which could result in riders splitting more to CritInt.

April. PR, RvV, Basque tour, Ardennes and Trentino should be a WT race instead of Romandie.

May: Giro and ToC

June: Dauphine, TdS

July; TdF, Tour of Austria should be switched with Poland in both calendar and rank.

August: Catalunya, Eneco, Vuelta, Hamburg.

September: as we don't have a lot of hilly stage races, Britain should be shortened by a stage or two, moved a week back and made a WT race , so that riders can ride both Britain and Canadian classics. Speaking of Canadian classics, one of them could probably be moved to somewhere in US near Canada border.

October: Lombardia, Paris Tours

Yeah that's at least one year too late for him.
But maybe he'll do a Vino now at the Olympics Wink

Do you dislike him that much? Not much panache, but he was a very gifted rider and actually won a pretty damn good stage last year. Probably the hardest of that year's Vuelta along with the one Landa won to Els Cortals.

Short answer? Yes. Winning a fun stage doesn't change my opinion of him.

Slightly longer answer? Yes. The man held Andy down, was blatantly "caught" doping and spent the last few years of his career mostly being a punchline for jokes. With the salary Trek paid him, they could had given jobs to talents and domestiques instead.

His Vuelta stage-win was Trek's biggest victory last season. Says more about the team but still worth it.

I am not going into doping talks. we all now he was one.
About Andy theme. this brother love hold them both back. At 2008 they both was at stunning form..still lack of mentality and looking after brother (to help him also into podium) hold them back.
Fränk had yellow when team mate Sastre attacked at Alpe D'Huez and got time between Evans. Can you imagine that someone from Sky had attacked yellow jersey Froome? Or what ever rider? They just keep steering that damn SRM powermeter and will stick with the "plan"..watch them riding is as boring to watch a dimmer table. They are saying that they created mountain train..fuck you guys. We are not even that young to forgot blue train.
2008..These was fun days. Dirty but fun. Another example about Schleck's mentality. Fränk was wearing yellow. 6 GC riders left..Riis saying go now. It will hurt like hell but you will seal a tour today. Fränk did not moved.
About Andy..he was most talented rider from he's generation. And should have achieved a lot more.

If I remember correctly, Sastre was pre-Tour leader in 2008. Schleck gain a lot of time in the Hautacam's Saunier freak show.. due to Sastre/Evans/Menchov watching each other. So in the Alpe (like in Prato Nevoso) Sastre attacked.
But yeah, you are right in these 16th monster stage everyone was half-dead and Frank could've secure at least podium, but.....
Still, it's somehow sad to see the end of Schleck's era..

To be fair Trek had 2 other stage victories in last years Vuelta with Stuyven and Van Poppel so I'd say it was equal biggest at best Wink

He really should of retired after that Vuelta stage win as he clearly had nothing left to offer the team but guess Trek looked at it differently. I was never a fan of the Schlecks who were both talented but they lacked that killer instinct, I really do wonder what might of happened had they ridden on different teams as I think ridding together did more harm than good.
