Farrar just isn't the best bike handler and easily gets out of position so has to fight back which leads to these incidents. Taking something like Tramadol out of the equation (certainly could be a cause) he clearly is lacking confidence and that has to play a massive part in the way he is riding, being so long out of form and basically riding for cycling livelihood at the top level would be contributing to him making bad decisions in the rough n tumble of those last k's leading to the sprint. The guy was overrated but still should of been in the mix but to me he looks done at the top level for now, if he dropped back a level for a season and get some wins or reivent himself he could still have something to give a WT squad. Goss is in the same situation

I remember reading that Farrar said he was "scared" of crashing. That could lead to over-corrections etc. The quote was from around the time of Wouter and I think Farrar had a big crash around that time too.

Tour de France 2015 Stage 2 to finish at Neeltje Jans. Zealand can mean only one thing: echelons!

If that stage does not have any echelons I am going to go hunt down Poseidon, or other applicable mythical God, and slap him silly with a fish as revenge.

I agree there should be a massive potential for echelons there. Is it too much to hope that the third stage might have cobbles?
Also first time a GT will start with a prologue/ITT since Tour 2012

And since he's coming back from an illness, you know what to expect in the Vuelta.
Spoiler Nah, he'll probably crash.

I wonder if i will ever see Tour de France starting in France again.
But nice echelon potential there, Saxo, Cannondale and OPQS will go brutal there...

Probably some day, but not in the near future.
With the recession, and the cuts in the redistribution of government money to cities it's unlikely that a city will have the money to host a Grand Départ soon. |

I know it's globalization and all that but I agree. I find it depressing that Grant Tours rarely start in their own country anymore.

Why? I think it's a good thing. I mean, take the Giro. It passes through Italy on 18 stages minimum, every year. Then take Ireland. Ireland might get the depart of a GT every ten or so years, for a maximum of three stages. Why should those three stages that hardly make a huge difference to the Italian fans go to Italy too, whereas it's great for Irish cycling?

I'm okay with one stage perhaps taking a small loop into a neighbouring country, but for me it loses something when it not only starts in a different country, but when several stages take place miles away from where it's supposed to.
Just wait til Qatar and Dubai start getting a whiff of cycling, before we know it the Tour will both start and end on the artifical Champs Elysees they most surely will construct in the middle of the desert.

I agree, I have no problems with the Tour starting in Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Spain or whatever (countries close to France), but what I dont like is if its going off to Qatar, USA etc. |

Giro '16 starts in the Netherlands as well, according to a Dutch site. It hasn't been decided where yet, though. Probably stay out of the North again

Of course it should happen sometimes, but it should be a novelty, not an everyday occurrence.

Well, it is a novelty in the places where it starts, because obviously it doesn't always start in the same foreign places. Whereas it's more of an everyday occurence in Italy, France and Spain.

In a couple of years it will be novelty for the actual host country to have a grand depart.
