Thanks baia & Pellizotti!
Another flat stage which means another chance for Andre Greipel. After his great stage win yesterday we´re quite optimistic again and hopefully Andre can repeat that today
Unfortunately the stage was really boring in the end. After Hushovd and Ciolek made a higher pace for collecting some sprint points on the last sprint with 12 kilometres to go, no one was able to bring them back. Hushovd took the stage win with ease. That´s already the second stage win for Thor and the second one on a strange way
Ciolek was 26 seconds behind him and finished as second in front of the pack
The pack came with 1 minute and 36 seconds to them. Breschel won the sprint there while Martin&Co rode an easy stage today

What happened to Greipel for the 3rd? No sprint or not a good result? |

We were not able to sprint for the third as Greipel was also a bit exhausted after the last stage |

Great decisions by sending Greipel to the break and by taking Herman's wheel

So this is the last flat stage before the overall final in this year´s La Vuelta!
Hopefully Tony Martin and his helpers Van Garderen and Monfort can relax today. The stage win should go to a pure sprinter like Hushovd, Bennati, Farrar, Davis, Breschel or of course our sprint captain Andre Greipel
Our team had to work a lot today as the breakaway was very strong. We´ve got a big help by Cervelo and Astana. I´m sure they are interested in a bunch sprint as Haussler, Hushovd and Allan Davis might have big chances today
Tony Martin was the one, who brought our sprinters in an awesome position. He´s not only the overall leader but also a fanastic leadout man.
Oscar Freire was in a good day form as he took Greipel´s wheel quickly
Only a few seconds before the sprint began, we were still in the best position with Eisel and Greipel. Allan Davis was already in the wind..maybe to early? On the left came Garmin with Farrar and on the right was Saxo Bank with O´Grady and Breschel
The last kilometre and Greipel made his move. He was in front of Freire, Fernandez and Allan Davis but can he keep this speed?
Unfortunately Freire was still alive! He made his final move and it looked like this is going to be an exciting final. Koldo Fernandez and Davis also looked quite fast
Oh my god! This is another close finish in Spain this year. And again it´s Andre Greipel who is the unlucky one. Freire won after the photofinish. Fernandez got a great third position on the podium in front of Allan Davis and Romain Feillu
Stage results
1 | Óscar Freire | Rabobank | 4h07'48 | 2 | André Greipel | Team HTC - Columbia | s.t. | 3 | Koldo Fernández | Euskaltel - Euskadi | s.t. | 4 | Allan Davis | Astana | s.t. | 5 | Romain Feillu | Vacansoleil Pro Cycling Team | s.t. | 6 | Gerald Ciolek | Team Milram | s.t. | 7 | Daniele Bennati | Liquigas - Doimo | s.t. | 8 | Tyler Farrar | Garmin - Transitions | s.t. | 9 | Francisco José Pacheco | Xacobeo - Galicia | s.t. | 10 | Matti Breschel | Team Saxo Bank | s.t. | 11 | Manuel Cardoso | Footon - Servetto | s.t. | 12 | Gert Steegmans | Team RadioShack | s.t. | 13 | Thor Hushovd | Cervélo Test Team | s.t. | 14 | Bernhard Eisel | Team HTC - Columbia | s.t. | 15 | Borut Božic | Vacansoleil Pro Cycling Team | s.t. |

So with only 4 stages to go, we´re reaching the final phase. Everything seems easy when you take a look at the overall but there are still two hard stages in the mountains and one very important time trial. Unfortunately Tony Martin´s shape is getting from bad to worse at the moment. Hopefully he can fight until the last stage is over. Today is another hard stage with some climbs but they shouldn´t be that hard. So of course the goal is to defend the jersey as well as possible
After he did a great job in this Vuelta, we´ve sent Tejay Van Garderen in today´s breakaway. Aerts, Ciolek, Benitez and Efimkin were staying with him in front
Pity, but TvG couldn´t stay with them after the last weeks. Ciolek was a big surprise as he was able to keep it up with Aerts, Benitez and Efimkin. However the group had no big future in this stage as the pack was just too fast
Samuel Sanchez probably saw the bad day form of Tony Martin. He was the first overall contender, making a strong move on the last climb with more than 19 kilometres to go. Franco Pellizotti, who´s riding a great Vuelta so far, went after him quickly
Tony Martin and even Maxime Monfort started an attack just a few moments later but Martin´s leg felt pretty bad today. Monfort´s was much stronger and we decided to send him after Sanchez& Co
This was the leading group on the last kilometres with Monfort, Sanchez, Tondo, Pellizotti, Cunego and Leipheimer, who´s getting better and better
Behind, Tony Martin was on his own but we thought he could reach the group with his awesome time trial skills. He already lost 40 seconds to Sanchez
With only 1,9 kilometres to go, a small group of 3 riders were built. Monfort, Tondo and Leipheimer fought for the stage win but Maxime Monfort didn´t look like he´s able to sprint for another HTC victory
Pity, that Leipheimer wasn´t able to win against Tondo but still a nice result for our signing and of course a great third by Monfort. Sanchez and Cunego came with 35 seconds to Tondo so where is Tony Martin?
He was even caught by Rodriguez, Cobo, Sastre, Mosquera and a few more in the end. All in all he lost 29 seconds to Sanchez which is quite good as we´re still in the leading position by more than one minute!
Stage results
1 | Xavier Tondo | Cervélo Test Team | 5h30'20 | 2 | Levi Leipheimer | Team RadioShack | s.t. | 3 | Maxime Monfort | Team HTC - Columbia | + 21 | 4 | Damiano Cunego | Lampre - Farnese Vini | + 35 | 5 | Samuel Sánchez | Euskaltel - Euskadi | s.t. | 6 | Franco Pellizotti | Liquigas - Doimo | + 1'04 | 7 | Joaquím Rodríguez | Team Katusha | s.t. | 8 | Juan José Cobo | Caisse d'Epargne | s.t. | 9 | Daniel Moreno | Omega Pharma - Lotto | s.t. | 10 | Carlos Sastre | Cervélo Test Team | s.t. | 11 | Philippe Gilbert | Omega Pharma - Lotto | s.t. | 12 | Carlos Castaño | Xacobeo - Galicia | s.t. | 13 | Tony Martin | Team HTC - Columbia | s.t. | 14 | Ezequiel Mosquera | Xacobeo - Galicia | s.t. | 15 | Rinaldo Nocentini | AG2R La Mondiale | + 2'04 |

Monfort 1 second from 10th place. Hope he can pass Moreno, and that Martin has a better daily form tomorrow. |

It´s the 19th stage and the last one in the mountains. Tony Martin is still in the leading position but his shape isn´t that good after the Giro and this hard Vuelta. Hopefully we can defend the jersey for a last time before the ITT tomorrow where Tony is favourite. Especially the last climb today with almost 20 kilometres will be the last chance for Sanchez to get the red jersey
So I´ve got really bad news! I´ve had some problems with my computer the last days and unfortunately I wasn´t able to take any screenshots of this exciting stage! But let´s start from the beginning! This stage was just so exciting that I´ve had wet hands after the race. My pulse was on 180 and I think you can understand that when I tell what happended there on the last climb. It was of course Samuel Sanchez, starting an attack! But he wasn´t the only one today because with Cobo, Wiggins, Moreno, Tondo, Zubeldia, Szmyd, Rodriguez, Leipheimer, Fuglsang and Pellizotti he had some really good climbers following him. And this is the sad part of this stage and especially of this stage: Tony Martin´s day form was bad and he couldn´t stay with them. No energy left for a last attack no help by Monfort and Van Garderen as they were completely exhausted! Tony Martin lost one second after one. At least Maxime Monfort was able to come back to his captain. He was a great help on the last kilometres but the red jersey and our great lead was in danger! Cobo won the stage in a sprint against Wiggins and Zubeldia. A big thanks goes to Maxime Monfort today as he was the one reducing the damage in the end. Sanchez came in with the leading group and Tony Martin lost 1 minute and ATTENTION! 18 seconds. That means Samuel Sanchez is the new leader of La Vuelta by 1 second. This is just unbelievable and it´s going to be the big final in tomorrow´s ITT. Tony Martin´s shape is terrible but he still should be able to win this Vuelta as he rode such a great Grand Tour. It would be incredible sad if we loose this one. The biggest looser of today´s stage was Mosquera, who lost more than 5 minutes to Pellizotti& Co
