Duo still doing well. Aru working for Olivier I like somehow. That said both need to gap Beltran and Txurruka ffs.
x2, really starting to wonder if top 5 spots in GC is gonna go to breaks again..
+2.39 m on Beltran is gonna be really tough with only 2 mountain stages remaining!
Shame about Krasno btw, would like to see how strong he is without injury.

La Lavandier mixing it pretty well at the top there. Happy with both of my gc guys to be inside the top 20 and making a decent effort. Not bad for a couple of minimum wage domestiques. This is shaping up as a pretty good race amongst the best.

This was a proper mountain stage and the best report this year
Good to see Beltran doing great at least Sella have this secured I think and the fight for secondary positions will also be fun to watch

Sending Martinez is now officially a mistake, top 10 out of sight
Now hoping on someone to get into the break
Despite the result, thanks for the report Alak

I should retire after that one..jesus christ that took long.
Great stage though, so much happened it was impossible to make it short. And the final sprint between Rujano and Sella in last km was the best thing I have ever watched unfold in PCM..there really was nothing to split them

This will be a nice win for Sella, really cheering for him but finding it strange that Rujano cannot seem to distance him other than by thickness of a gnats hair.
really enjoying race, tachira is always like a mini grand tour great effort Alak!

Olivier!!!!
What a ride by young Dutch. Backup stats seem to count as he is stronger than some other + 1 climbers with less backup stats.
U25 lead now and close to top5 in the GC.
Not that happy with Aru. Obviously he had a bad day today. He tried to attack 2-3 times but couldn`t bridge where weaker climbers like Txurruka could (great ride for Euskaltel here!).
I feel he should have been able to be in the +38 group. But then again he is still within my self set goal for this race. Hopefully he can still climb 2-3 spots in GC as also podium in U25 as well. Normally he should be stronger than Beltran, Murillo, La Lavandier.
Nice report Alak and no way you are retiring now.

They must be in literally every stat the same. Rujano can't take Sella off his wheel.
But still, a stage win is nice! First win of the year! |

Wow, really good effort by Pantano here, looked incredibly strong!
And what a finnish between Sella and Rujano here, would be weird if they weren't dominating!
Top 5 is great, but the whole top 10 is really, really weird, behind the podium, I mean. And the break-away riders still holding on strong, damn. I guess Olivier and Pantano had good daily form. Can't see how they could outclimb Nazaret and Marquez otherwise. Aru and Quintana with an off day aswell, shame.
Now another top performance by Pantano to keep the top 5 please!!

Great riding from the Orange in the mountains. Arredondo with a good 4th place from the breakaway. But Txurruka is riding like crazy here. A 2 minute gap over 5th will hopefully stay that way for stage 9, 4th would be a fantastic result. Very promising riding from my team!

Sorry but I don't get it... Nazaret being constantly bullied by worst riders... worst in the main attribute, worst in the secondary... He might be having a hell of shit luck strike with the daily form...
And maybe this one wasn't the stage where to pour my rage but it has been a constant all over the race...
Most impresive ride by Txurruka, he's a true gladiator. Suffering but staying with the best. It will be very difficult to cut the 2 min he's got ahead of the 5th.
Congrats Miguel for the win. It will be very difficult to take the first place but a second with at least a stage is a good result
Thanks Alak for the reports, really nice reads even each one of them comes with more bad news

I'm counting 30 pictures
Truly epic report, great stuff, Alak! Enjoyed the thrill here and of course this was a huge battle to the line. Must say I have some love for both Sella and Rujano, but I'm happy Rujano took the stage.
Legendary Beltran suffering, could be a first sign of what to come here. Should still end with a decent GC for him. Now wondering how long Txurruka will hang on.. Nazaret to bounce back?

Some brilliant mountain stages! Thanks for the reports, Alakagom, looking a lot forward to the two decisive stages.
It's cool to see Rujano and Sella be the strongest of the favourites, they've both been top climbers, and it's nice to see them have another season competing for glory, congratulations to both managers!
Sella is the obvious favourite to secure the GC, and with Rodrigues and Poorseyedi in support, they should be able to take it as well. |

Well that was close. Congrats Miguel for the stage win, Rujano only getting some bonus seconds is still better than him having a bigger gap.
I couldn't see who had his wheel in front in that situation, but we can't blame the Venezuelian organizers for a little bias in a situation like that, if their favourite can't win the GC already.
Hope Sella and Rujano still put up a nice fight in the remaining two stages.
Nice to see Rodrigues also finish not too far behind and Poorseyedi shamefully dropped out of the top 10.
Sorry Kentaurus for taking back the team classification. |

Thanks for the report mate. Really enjoyable stage.
La Lavandier into the top 10 is amazing.
