I was going home from Canada with mixed feelings. I had convinced everyone I'm capable to bring some great results, but two 2nd places were a bit of disappointment, when you are so close to win...
I was at home just a few hours when my phone started ringing - my agent was calling me, that Patrick Lefevere wants to meet me tomorrow. Immediately I though about the interview he got before the Canadian races. What the hell he wants? My head was in storm and I can't stop thinking about it...
So next day, I met with Patrick Lefevere, also Rolf Aldag and Davide Bramati. I though - wow, that's a quite big meeting. Mr. Lefevere talked a lot, how they were watching me all the time I was a stagiaire at Trek and they like my style of cycling.
As we were talking they illustrated me their plans and come with the contract offer! They also said we will met once again after the WC!

I was coming home from the meeting with great feelings and I was happy that I will ride next season for a such great team!

World Championship Ponferrada - ITT
Very interesting time-trial with its uphill finish made the group of favorites very big. Tony Martin believed he is able to keep the pace on the hill, but on the other hand climbers with good time trial abilities were thinking about gaining a lot of time here.
In the end the winner slightly surprised nearly everyone. I wasn't on the start ramp so I just show you results. And one more thing, I will be riding in the team with the new WC!
1 | Rigoberto Uran | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step | 53'51 | 2 | Rohan Dennis | Garmin - Sharp | + 20 | 3 | Bradley Wiggins | Sky Procycling | + 39 | 4 | Tony Martin | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step | + 44 | 5 | Chris Froome | Sky Procycling | + 45 | 6 | Alberto Contador | Team Tinkoff - Saxo | + 1'01 | 7 | Jonathan Castroviejo | Movistar Team | + 1'13 | 8 | Jérôme Coppel | Cofidis, Solutions Crédits | + 1'19 | 9 | Janez Brajkovic | Astana Pro Team | + 1'20 | 10 | Artem Ovechkin | RusVelo | + 1'39 | 11 | Edvald Boasson Hagen | Sky Procycling | s.t. | 12 | Cadel Evans | BMC Racing Team | + 1'41 | 13 | Jean-Christophe Péraud | Ag2r - La Mondiale | + 1'50 | 14 | Michal Kwiatkowski | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step | + 2'01 | 15 | Richie Porte | Sky Procycling | + 2'10 |
World Championship Ponferrada - Road Race
Staying on the start line in the national jersey was a great feeling and I felt proud and honored to be here with the best riders in the world and with great contract in my pocket!
I was one of the three with Frank Schleck and Ben Gastauer. We were there with the lowest number of riders so we just had to wait and let it on the biggest countries like Belgium, Italy, Spain or Australia.
Soon after the start there were 4 riders in the break - S. Denifl, M. De Maar, J, Serpa and A. Pronto.
The break got maximum advantage about 10', but the Czech republic contrelled the pace with Spain and Belgium.
As we were closing to the finish the gap was going down and with still 40 kms to go, there was the first, maybe surprising, move by Phillipe Gilbert.
But his attack didn't last long, after 10 kms he was caught and there were only two laps remaining. I was very well positioned near to the big names. And with 25 kms to go Italians made their move - Visconti attacked followed by Majka.
But once again, they were caught and just one lap remained with Serpa still 30'' ahead of peloton with 70 riders in it.
12 kms to the line and Gilbert made his second move today, but he was closely followed by Rodriguez, Visconti, Aru, Majka, Pinot and...me!
8 kms to go:
Rodriguez | | | | Rizzi | Aru | 12'' | Visconti | 14'' | Majka | Gilbert | | | | Slagther |
But in next 2 kms we caught Visconti, while the first three had 20'' advantage with just descent to the finish.
In the finishing line Aru was surprisingly the strongest one and took the rainbow!
I came in the second group, but I had no energy left and just cross the line very happy with 6th place!
I was very happy with my performance and I can't wait for the meeting with Patrick Lefevere about my next season. He told me that we will meet tomorrow, so we will see what this meeting brings!
Thank you Andy for everything!

Thank you guys!
What the Next Year Brings?
I was in very good mood going to the meeting with Patrick Lefevere, also he came in great note too. They indicated their plans with me on our first meeting, but now, when I signed the contract, we had more than 3 hour-long talk.
They brought it simply - they see great potential. But now I'll moslty serve as super domestique for two of the biggest stars on roster - Michal Kwiatkowski and Rigoberto Uran!
After hearing that, I was really surprised how big trust they are putting on me. So there are a few things sure! I will ride all the Ardennes classics with Kwiatko and probably I will have to get ready for Giro d'Italia!
I will know the full calendar in January when the team training camp in Calpe is on the program!
Now there is still one thing in my program for this season - Il Lombardia!
Thank you Andy for everything!

Il Lombardia
New world champion - F. Aru
The week after WC I was training with ease for the last race of that incredible season. And I hoped I'm able to get one more great result here, near to my home.
While we were riding I didn't fell anything, I was going great and we were just 50 kms from the finish line with still two big hills left on the course and Katusha was pushing really hard.
They really made the peloton smaller - with 20 kms left, there were about 80 riders and Katusha was preparing the position for Joaquin Rodriguez.
And with 12 kms to go he attacked and he was followed only by Gilbert.
I was in the 2nd group just about 20'' behind them. But near to the top we caught Gilbert so probably Rodriguez attacked him once more and he was going for a solo win here.
We came after 40'' and I was sprinting for the 5th place! I was feeling good in the finish, but I was also happy that the season is over and I'll have time for myself, my family and my friends!
1 | Joaquin Rodriguez | Katusha Team | 6h22'54 | 2 | Philippe Gilbert | BMC Racing Team | + 43 | 3 | Domenico Pozzovivo | Ag2r - La Mondiale | s.t. | 4 | Roman Kreuziger | Team Tinkoff - Saxo | s.t. | 5 | Mario Rizzi | Trek Factory Racing | s.t. | 6 | Daniel Martin | Garmin - Sharp | s.t. | 7 | Vincenzo Nibali | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 8 | Daniel Moreno | Katusha Team | s.t. | 9 | Alberto Contador | Team Tinkoff - Saxo | s.t. | 10 | Peter Velits | BMC Racing Team | + 1'22 |
